Thread for Autorank in case Kaine (D) wins VA Gov's race!
I'm sure Mr. Rank will want to grace us with some penetrating analysis of this race.

If not, WTF is happening in OHIO?

2. WOW - We whooped some serious ass! 65%-35% Kaine, yes Kaine!
I have a large precinct that I suspect the very bright Kaine people thought was going to be less productive than it turned out to me. I've never been a precinct captain...it's fun!!!

I had great support from the Kaine Campaign. They brought in some top notch pro's, all 20 somethings. They provided good support.

Kaine, Gov., won in the mid sixties and Kilgore was crushed.

Lt. Gov and A.G. (vital, Falwell and racist $$$'s there) were just a couple of points off -- 61-63% for Democrats, crushed for Republicans.

And they were smart.

Everybody in VA has poll watchers (which in VA means people who sit behind the poll workers and check off the arrival of committed voters. I did that for Kerry in this precinct. Kerry won about 53-47%.

The Kaine people said, forget that. By the time we get the lists it's too late. They substituted "drive and drag" - go out and knock on doors of voters on the fence (in terms of voting, these are probable Dems).

Wellllll, guess what. I had five volunteers, one the charming daughter of autorank. There were three routs that were well organized (single family and the Dem friendly condo dwellers). The 'kids' hit 390 residences! in just under 2.5 hours. They then went for a long lunch with my credit card while I, up all night (last sleep 11am Monday), stood and performed a retail function of schmoozing people and giving them a Democratic ballot.

One note, the machines issues were not that bad, other than having to use one in the first place (Republicans in Fairfax are on board on this issue). Republicans out front with me an my crew were quite friendly. We joked a lot. The Republican precinct captain, who's an old pro, and I had a nice talk while the vote was being tallied.

He was tired and left after the vote total was given but before the particular races. I offered to call him with the details and we exchanged numbers. I stayed and got the details. That guy was my very first call after getting home. This is how it should be.

Thanks Bill. And extra thanks to all the great people of Virginia who are starting to throw off the shackles of reflex Bushism and embrace their natural Jeffersonian heritage. Northern Virginia starts but the rest will follow.

DAMN IT'S NICE TO WIN BIG.

I'd like to thank a few people for the ass whipping delivered by Northern Virginia -- a 20% victory margin:

--Jerry Kilgore, for being himself, a weasel, disarticulate, greased down, empty shirt.
--Jerry Kilgore and McDonnell (AG candidate) for taking money from labor contractors who exploit illegals while, at the same time, they railed against illegals (priceless)
--A.G. Candidate McDonnell for taking money from white power group in TN (if he's declared the winner, he'll have his ass indicted quickly, AG or not)
--The young professional campaign people brought in by Kaine and Warner camps--they're comatose right now but they've worked their asses off and they're very smart.
--Whoever did the fake robo calls claiming to be kaine supporting and end to abortion (total lie) and also those who volunteered like rudy Giuliani, who just pissed the hell out of virginians. there was unusual hostility to any type of calling but the Kilgore people went way over the top.
--And, again, to Jerry Kilgore who attacked Kaine for being Catholic and therefore unable to allow death sentences. What a genius Kilgore is. Just an amazing POS. Kaine has no such intention although he opposes the death penalty. This neutralized all the stupid sermons immediately. Catholics were furious.
--Finally, my daughter, who, after 3 hours of "drive and drag" done brilliantly, took a 1.5 hour lunch...a process she calls "taking care of myself"
 she should be governor!

10. You forgot to thank Shrub for putting the final nail in Kilgore's coffin.
And Rudy has clearly lost it ever since the Repuke convention last year at which he had his head so far up Bush's butt he could have given him a visual prostate exam.

16. That was a nice little humiliation, wasn't it...for both of them.
It was the coup de grace. They can both go back packing or something to share each other's pain.

It was pissed off women, pissed off smart people, and GOTV...but, I would personally like to thank pResident Bush for making absolutely sure the margin of voctory in No. Virginia approached epic proportions.

14. Congrats, 'rank. I love knowing people who can ...
... think (and write) globally and kick some serious republi-Nazi ass locally. I hope all DUers can take a page from your book and multi-task ourselves back to the country we once loved and should live to be able to love again.

We need to paint scarlet Ws on the foreheads of any Puke who can still stand to stand with the Smirking Chimp. All the easier to eat them alive. And tell me more about the racist group in Tennessee you referred to so we can smoke them out of their spider holes.

It was great to meet you in Portland. Hope to cross paths again someday soon, after my temporary delay at "camp" is over and done with.

15. Fly, *2* to *1* Dem beat down in my precinct. Local is addictive;)
Edited on Thu Nov-10-05 01:28 AM by autorank
Our numbers were equal to or better than Arlington, VA (a Berkley like enclave) and our demographics were anything but typical 2 to 1 Democrats win demographics.

An honor meeting you out there. Hope all is well.

Fly, this may interest you. I copied it from another DU post on VA:

I ran a precinct in Northern Virginia, 90% well off, 8% kinda, and 2% soon to be kinda well off. It's a majority white and very well educated. It went Kerry 53% to 47% or something like that.

Our numbers matched Arlington (Berkley East) and Alexandria (Dem stronghold). We actually beat them by a bit;) - the goal being to turn Fairfax County into Marin County in five years!

Two things happened yesterday, IMHO (I'll know more when I can look at numbers with some degree of rest).

1) It was a cultural revolt. Republicans up here have tolerated the Falwell-Robertson-crypto racist down state Republicans with a wink and a nod on the tax issue. Kilgore and the Falwell clones down ticket were just too much. Kilgore is what he looks like, a weasel and his bearing doesn't help.

I think that many of the reflexive financially driven Republicans said "Enough, we've had it, I won't have this clown as my governor. It's just too offensive." I think that a portion of those Republicans who voted for him in my precinct did so because they are loyal party people and held their noses. I know that if Warner ran a second time against Kilgore it would have been 80%-20% Warner.

What does that mean? The professional class has had it with 'cultural conservatives' and finds them so offensive they're done voting for them.

2) Professional women were very pissed off at the Republicans. The Republican ticket, all three (Gov, Lt.Gov, AG) are all anti-abortion in extreme and anti-woman by implication. My precinct has a majority of two professional families. Since I viewed every walk-up to the polling place, I can say this. I only had about 1 in 20 women turn down my Democratic sample ballot. About 4 out of five women turned down the Republican ballot and most of them were angry. They made a nasty face, put their hands up, rolled their eyes, and otherwise let their displeasure be known.

It was apparent from start to finish. The at home wives, casually dressed or with strollers, were more laid back but the professional women were pissed. Some stopped to talk to me after voting and they were just adamant. It was great.

This may or may not generalize to other communities but Northern Virginia was over 60% - 40% Kaine and this is what happened where I was.

Jefferson smiled.

7. Damn 12-13% and Forrester has been around forever.
How did things go in Asbury Park and that area. There was some strange machines stuff going on.

I always enjoyed NJ when I lived in NYC (except when you guys tried to drive in Manhattan;) The people are quite bright and very funny.

They deserve a class act like Corzine!

Does this mean Corzine replaces himself?

6. three cheers for the Commonwealth of Virginia!
NJ was a foregone conclusion (barring a "McGreevey Effect"), but 52-46% below the Mason-Dixon? That's a good ground operation. Cheers to auto for takin' it to the streets.

In the spirit of Jeffersonian revolution, I tore down the Bloomberg signs in my neighborhood:

I mean, this guy's a billionaire, but all he can afford is staples? Sigh.
