We need a comprehensive post-election poll in Ohio NOW
Edited on Wed Nov-09-05 09:03 AM by Fly by night
Given the obvious disconnect between the pre-election polls and the "reported" election results in Ohio on Issue 1 vs. Issues 2-5, we need a comprehensive post-election poll in Ohio to determine both turnout and how folks actually voted.

I copied this comparison of a major pre-election poll and the "reported" results from another thread to illustrate the disconnect. Thanks to Junkdrawer in this thread: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x2233718

Issue #1:
Poll: 53% YES, 27% NO, 20% Don't Know
Actual: 53.7% YES, 46.3% NO

Issue #2:
Poll: 59% YES, 33% NO, 9% Don't Know
Actual: 35.7% YES, 64.3% NO

Issue #3:
Poll: 61% YES, 25% NO, 14% Don't Know
Actual: 32% YES, 68% NO

Issue #4:
Poll: 31% YES, 45% NO, 25% Don't Know
Actual: 29% YES, 71% NO

Issue #5:
Poll: 41% YES, 43% NO, 16% Don't Know
Actual: 28.8% YES, 71.2% NO

I'm not talking about exit polls 'cause it's too late for that. I'm talking about a regular old poll, sampling to be representative of voters and/or people who voted.

Come on, Dems (both national and Buckeye State Dems), we need to determine and document whether this election was on the up-and-up. And since it was Ohio and Katherine Blackbeard is still in charge of "counting the votes" there, my bet is NOT.

There's no time to waste. Poll 'em 'til they squeal like the election-stealing pigs they are.

5. I do believe there are OH counties where paper can be counted.
As I remember, OH-2 uses optical scan in many precincts. So I'm also in favor of actually counting ballots there (what a novel idea!!), as well as a follow-up poll to cover the majority of Ohioans who voted on "Hal Diebold" and his clones.

2. These fucking pigs stole the election.
I went to bed last night looking at the state-wide numbers from the Secretary of State's website. We had won all issues 2,3,4,5 by a wide margin (64-73%). I was happy that we had reformed Ohio by an overwhelming majority.

Now I wake up and the polls are showing the EXACT OPPOSITE?!?!?!?!

BULLSHIT!!

Now I wish I had saved the screens....I just thought "hey, we're winning by 40 points...unDieboldable". I was wrong.

4. Maybe you could call the Columbus Dispatch
and see if they could do a new poll. There could be a good story here and they might be interested.

7. That's a great idea. It would be better for Buckeyes to make that call.
How about helping get this thread out on the DU home page (by kicking and nominating) to catch the attention of more Ohioans. Particularly with the statement above in this thread that late evening results on the SoS web-site showed Issues 2-5 winning handily.

For the second year in a row, Ohioans have gone to bed dreaming sweet dreams of victory and awakened to a living nightmare. Time to drive a sharp poll in the hearts of those porcine Ohio Republi-Nazis.

10. I received this email from someone connected to RON:
"I can't explain it myself, but Dr. Asher said there are big flaws in the way the Dispatch conducted its poll. He said last night that he was a lot less hopeful about our succeeding than many of us. I, the eternal optimist, preferred to spin the poll the other way--that the undecideds would stay home or skip these issues.

I think we can look again to the rural voters and the Religious Right as hampering progress. It took the fundies 30 years to take over the country, so undoing their gains will take awhile. Education and redirecting the language is going to have to go high on our agenda."

this is why we can't win in Ohio. Those in leadership positions, refuse to confront the obvious and make excuses. It is frustrating!

11. You also can't win when you sit on your hands at moments like these.
Get the Columbus Dispatch to re-run their poll, dammit. Don't let a single "expert" deter you from at least trying to determine if the consent of the governed was once again ignored in Ohio.

I swear, if another Ohioan tells me they can't do what is so patently obvious needs to be done (and that includes Hackett, who ignored our efforts to encourage a hand recount in the OH-2 race), I will start a movement to disinvite Ohio from our union.

We can't have such an obviously corrupt state, inhabited by way too many clueless and ball-less Democrats, deciding our national politics. (Rant off.)

13. Polls seem to be more unbiased and accurate in Ohio that the official vote
But given what happened in 2004; why weren't there plans to document
such problems in this election. Surely manipulation was expected.
