1. Thanks for the post! Love the graphic!
What an egg!

Hey, folks--in order to keep Diebold's worst election theft machines out of California, we need even more MASSIVE public pressure on McPherson, and also political pressure on him from elected representtives, and as much media spotlight as possible.

PLEASE do this small task for the future of our democracy! Even a short letter will help. "Just say no to Diebold touchscreens!!

The organizers of this round did a fantastic job of rallying folks to comment, on very short notice, amid major shenanigans by McPherson, including his disbanding the public oversight group (the Voting Systems and Procedures Panel-VSPP) with no notice or hearings. This was the group whose meeting was attended by hundreds of anti-Diebold speakers in June. McPherson didn't even show up at the hearing yesterday. He sent a tape recorder, a secretary and some staff members!

Yet their phone was ringing off the hook all day with anti-Diebold calls, according to someone I spoke to in his office. And I presume, also, that many, many letters and emails were sent. Organizers even got a rally going in Sacto, on short notice of McPherson's sudden move to certify Diebold. (Sacto is a 5 to 10 hour drive for most Californians.) They also got the word to numerous blogs, and it went out to numerous lists. These organizing activities were remarkable.

But clearly we need more--an overwhelming, relentless din of disapproval continuing all week, through Thanksgiving. (I believe the public comment deadline is Nov. 30.)

Please help! And do read that fine news article in The Record (central valley paper; generally rightwing area).

McPherson wasn't even AT THE HEARING.

That's just outrageous.

We should be doing something with that!

WHERE IN THE WORLD IS BRUCE MCPHERSON?

We weren't talking about my aunt's china, we were talking about the elections of the 7th largest economy in the world! (Is that right, 7th?)

Not only should we weigh in this week, WE SHOULD RAISE HELL because Mendigo McPherson just disrespected the voters of California.

It could work! You know California is in the mood.

Whaddya think?

:hi:

Have you seen this man?

9. "Win an election"? That's why they want the machines.
Alienation/sm-alienation as far as these guys are concerned.

15. He's not behaving as if he has to win an election so,
maybe he just has to be able to steal it. :(

7. Sorry for being late to the game but about their printer...
In one of the staff reports from the CA SOS office, it says that the printer that they use for creating a so-called VVPB is spooled sequentially. Does that not violate one of the most sacred voting principles, the right to an anonymous vote? A sequential roll of votes is dangerous. This is how one buys votes. This is how one coerces votes. This is how elections are stolen in a very low tech way.

Any thoughts?

11. That makes sense to me.
I wonder if that could be made into a legal argument.

13. I think that Diebold and Sequoia want people to question the computer part
because the low tech way of stealing an election is so much easier. I have seen with my own eyes Alameda County officials not worry that a visiting county official from another CA county voted on a live voting machine. "Don't worry" said the Alameda official, "we can get rid of your vote" They meant that they can trace the time stamp of that person's vote.

See, the deep secret here that no one will address is that the votes are never truly randomized. That means that someone can trace who votes and when. That means that the $20 that policians pay drunks to vote in Newark will now be truly verified. It may not be enough for a national election but given enough practice with local elections who knows?

12. See this latest column by Bob Koehler! He really blisters Ohio's e-voting
for the impossible recent results on the recent initiatives that were about reforming the election system! Yikes! You can't achieve transparent elections because the elections are not transparent!

14. Kick. Diebold should be negotiating a plea with Federal
Prosecutors, not negotiating a deal with the CA Secretary of State.
