Bradblog: MSM distorts report on CA SoS Diebold hack test
Edited on Sun Nov-27-05 11:47 PM by Amaryllis
Just out from Bradblog:

Confusion, Misreporting Surround Reports on CA Sec. of State Diebold Voting Machine 'Hack' Test!
Mainstream Media Reports Indicating Scheduled Attempt to 'Hack' Voting Machines Appear to Be Incorrect
State, Activists Still Negotiating Paramaters, Scheduling of Test as State and Federal Deadlines Draw Near…

On Friday, a story in the San Francisco Chronicle by political writer John Wildermuth reported that the California Secretary of State's office would be allowing Election Reform activists to perform an attempted hack of Diebold voting machines this Wednesday, November 30th. That report was soon picked up by the Associated Press and other outlets where it was repeated, in part, in newspapers, radio and television across the nation. Headlines along the line of "Hacker to try to attack state voting machines" were blared across the media throughout the holiday weekend.

Trouble is, the story seems to be all wrong...

goes along with this Diebold scheme, it would only amount to a Diebold PR scam, lead actor SOS of CA.

2. really?
How so?

Also, what makes you think it was Diebold's idea? I'm being totally serious. I'm pretty skeptical that near the end of an 18-month effort to get re-certified so they can finally collect the $40 million that's been owed to them since last year they'd suddenly call up McPherson and say "hey, here's an idea... why don't you just hold off on certifying that stuff for now and invite Black Box Voting in for a hacking demonstration instead? And be sure to make a big announcement about it in the press!" It makes no sense unless it's all just some elaborate ploy to defer that revenue for some unfathomable reason.
