Abramoff's money & stolen elections: This needs to be Greatest!!
This is a posting from IndyOp that did not receive enough votes for Greatest and it's highly topical. Did Abramoff have a hand in some of the election scandals involving Diebold or election officials?

Here's the other post, which only received 4 votes. It seems to me this could turn out to be an essential bit of investigation. Let's make sure it's read!!

This thread has five votes, and the one we need on the Greatest has four.

Now I get it. It's too old to be rec'd.

2. That's because when you try
to vote for it now you get a message that says "Error: you can only recommend threads which were started in the past 24 hours"

So at least this one being here will get the "real" one the attention it deserves.

4. Here's the OP from IndyOp:
Okay DU Researchers - Here is a challenge for you:

Let's all FOLLOW that money!!

How much of Abramoff's largesse was used to steal the 2004 election?

As we learned back during Watergate, electoral malfeasance takes an awful lot of laundered cash. ("A million? We could get that," as Nixon put it to John Dean.) What's up with all those "campaign contributions"?

What was the source of the money paid to Nathan Sproul, to run those bogus voter-registration drives from coast to coast? What about the money that the RNC spent on "the Mighty Texas Strike Force," whose members bullied and or disinformed so many would-be voters in Ohio, Florida, Pennsylvania? That sort of thing does not come cheap.

Let's look into it, and see what we can find. Such research could blow the whole Bush/Cheney juggernaut sky-high!

----------------
MARIANA ISLANDS - BUSH SUPPORTED ABRAMOFF CLIENT INTERESTS, RECEIVED DONATIONS: Abramoff was hired by the Saipan Garment Manufacturers Association and the Northern Mariana Islands to "stop legislation aimed at cracking down on sweatshops and sex shops in the American territory." In 1997, "Abramoff charged the Marianas for getting then-Texas Gov. George W. Bush to write a letter expressing support for the Pacific territory's school choice proposal, his billing records show. Š Abramoff and his wife each gave $5,000 to Bush's 2000 recount fund and the maximum $1,000 to his 2000 campaign. By mid-2003, Abramoff had raised at least $100,000 for Bush's re-election campaign, becoming one of Bush's famed 'pioneers.' Š Money also flowed from the Marianas to Bush's re-election campaign: It took in at least $36,000 from island donors, much of it from members of the Tan family, whose clothing factories were a routine stop for lawmakers and their aides visiting the islands on Abramoff-organized trips."

5. Great move Stevepol!!! Here's the "A" man with Ralph Reed
The Secret World of Jack Abramoff:Laundering Tribal Funds
http://rude_write.blogs.com/the_media_malapropos/politicscorruption/
(this looks like an excellent site, btw)
Lobbyist Jack Abramoff used money from a Mississippi tribal client to set up bogus Christian anti-gambling groups and to fund pet projects including gear for a "sniper school" in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, according to documents released yesterday by Senate investigators. The revelations came in e-mails and testimony made public yesterday by the Senate Indian Affairs Committee at its third hearing on the activities of Abramoff and Michael Scanlon, a public relations executive and former spokesman for House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Tex.). Abramoff, who is also at the center of a corruption investigation by the Justice Department, laundered tribal money by directing the Indians to donate to tax-exempt groups that the lobbyist later used for his own purposes, the Senate committee said. One project involved Abramoff's effort to arrange for military equipment, including night-vision goggles and a "jeep," for the sniper training conducted by a high school friend.
Aaron Stetter, a former Scanlon employee, testified that Scanlon and Abramoff sought to whip up opposition to casinos proposed by rival tribes by setting up bogus Christian phone banks. He said callers would identify themselves as members of groups such as the Christian Research Network or Global Christian Outreach Network and urge voters to contact their representatives. Material released yesterday also appeared to undermine assertions by former Christian Coalition executive director Ralph Reed, now a candidate for Georgia lieutenant governor.

6. More Abramoff and Ralph Reed

Abramoff violated both, and the law, in vivid detail.
http://www.political-news.org/breaking/20908/scandal-exposes-washingtons-underside.html

"Is life great or what!!" he exulted in an e-mail to an associate with whom he pocketed $66 million from six American Indian tribes seeking influence in Washington.

In a series of e-mails and other documents, Abramoff explained that in 2002 he and an associate secretly funneled millions of dollars to consultant Ralph Reed, a former Christian Coalition leader, to help shut down a Texas casino operated by the Tigua Indians.

Then Abramoff persuaded the Tiguas to hire him and his associate, public relations consultant Michael Scanlon, to help reopen the casino.

"The annoying losers are the only ones which have this kind of money and part with it so quickly," Abramoff wrote to Scanlon.

Abramoff also explained how some of the money would be doled out: "He (Scanlon) divided the $5 million into three piles: $1 million for actual expenses and $2 million for each of us."

No wonder Congress can't balance a budget, unless it's IOU's to their donors. They're always going to "affairs," parties, events to celebrate the "bag-man" cometh. I have a modest proposal. I suggest that members of congress return to simply having "affairs," preferably in the office, rather than traveling all over the country going to "affairs." This would provide a means of relaxation and camaraderie and, at the same time, keep the members in their offices where they might, in their post reverie stupor, actually do some work.

13. Sen. John Ensigh, R, NV - Our guy on verified voting - $4000 from Abramoff
Well, how about that. I was not surprised to see George Allen, Chambliss, and even Grassley on his contribiutionlist...but the Hon. Senator from Nevada, "champion" of voting rights.

Could it be--we've been had?

Oh, stop it...why this is "guilt by association." Yeah right.

9. Read the old Dec '76 Atlantic Monthly article on Watergate by
Renata Adler, now teaching at Boston U. The 'real Nixon scandal' was about money from the CIA (see the little bitty footnote in All The President's Men re the Chilean money coming back into a Mexican bank...that was CIA money returning to be used in Nixon's campaign, ahem.)

Then understand that with all the 'off the books' intel projects, especially those involving the military--you can now think about Israel's role now--the black ops money is now going to funding compliant politicians campaigns in order to keep the wheels greased.

11. Tim Weiner's Blank Check book
More on the black ops/off-the-record funding of whateveryouwant. Funding for anything is supposed to originate in Congress, at least that's what the civics texts tell us.

With the CIA's drug money etc. you can even have whole buildings put up for the CIA, as happened awhile back, and everyone in Congress (and the real media) is left scratching their heads, and posteriors too for that matter.

DOD was 'missing' around $2 Trillion
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2002/01/29/eveningnews/main325985.shtml

""According to some estimates we cannot track $2.3 trillion in transactions," Rumsfeld admitted.

$2.3 trillion — that's $8,000 for every man, woman and child in America. To understand how the Pentagon can lose track of trillions, consider the case of one military accountant who tried to find out what happened to a mere $300 million. ""

This is only the 'budgetted' money, I must remind you. Just think of the off record cash and its sources. And some must go to pliant Congressmen in the process. Think Duke Cunningham and ...who else ?

12. The two trillion is truly frightening...lots of dough to spread around.
Hey, I have an idea. Let's fine out who swiped it, confiscate it and pay for expanded social services. Thanks for the link!

14. Here's another name to take a look at: Salvato
I did some googling and got this from www.blackboxvoting.org

There had to have been contact between Abramoff and the election scammers and con men. Here's another angle that might yeild something with some IT research.

1-9-2006: DuPage County Elections paid $30,000 to Republican political consultant
Frank Salvato, a Republican media consultant, acknowledged in a brief interview with Black Box Voting today that he received nearly $30,000 from the DuPage County (IL) Elections division in 2004. Initially, when asked what DuPage County was paying for, Salvato said "media consulting."

Salvato's bio from his Web site, TheRant.us, describes him as a political media strategist. "He supports and is affiliated with the Republican Presidential Task Force, the RNC's Presidential Victory Team, RightMarch.com, Republican National Committee, the National Republican Senatorial Committee and is a GOP
