I want to let you know
that I really appreciate what people like you in the Election Reform board are doing. It's nice to see that at least someone's working on this situation.

3. Are you involved at all with election reform, or just realize the need for
it? Do you have any thoughts on how widespread the perception is out there that our elections are a problem, or that the election was stolen? Those of us who hang out here are emersed in it...I lose touch with waht the general public knows. Also, I live in a very liberal city and it's common for people here to think it was stolen.

11. Election Reform
In 2004, I was heavily involved in trying to get a fair election. I'm really not that great gauging the general public but I have did seen occasional LTTE's in my paper talking about it and of course, the required "Get over it" response. My mother basically has mixed feelings about whether it was stolen. I mainly just want the elections to be fair. I remember during election day Republicans were sending a bunch of their challengers to mainly minority precincts. But, after 2004, I was exhausted. I still am, a bit. It sucks so bad to have one of the 9 pro-torture Senators (Kit Bond) representing you.

6. as someone living in Alaska where they stole 2004, you have
my admiration too. What a thankless job it is trying to get this fixed.

8. Kerry won the popular vote too. Didn't make much of a difference.
not meaning to sound skeptical. but until the votes get counted correctly, it doesn't matter if you have an electoral college or not.

9. Kerry?
I don't think so:
http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2004/pages/results/president/

Bush 62,040,606
Kerry 59,028,109

What you have to understand is that the issue here is that of all these votes, the majority (2/3) simply did not count in the election.

And this has to change.

Kerry won the popular vote my friend. You are reading the currupted results. Here is a report that discusses who ACTUALLY won the popular vote:

http://freepress.org/images/departments/PopularVotePaper181_1.pdf

As I said, it doesn't matter if the election is popular or electoral college. If the votes are not counted properly, the results are the same. With the electronic voting machines, they can steal it either way. It is more important to fix the vote counting problem than to switch to popular vote.

Kerry won both the popular vote and the electoral college, and with a significant margin.

12. Come on...
"Corrupted" results?? I don't know if I buy that. There might be a little error, but certainly not enough of one to make a substantive difference.

Here's another article to chew on in the mean time, from the New Yorker:

COUNT ’EM
http://www.newyorker.com/talk/content/articles/060306ta_talk_hertzberg

Let's focus on a issue we can all get behind.

13. you might start a fresh thread on electoral college abolition
Not that it doesn't fit under the election reform theme of the OP (although it is hard to tell), but dunno how many people will see it here.

(Also, given the prevalence here of the belief that Kerry won the popular vote, I don't know how much enthusiasm you will evoke. Try it and see.)
