CA up in arms over Diebold certification.

MacPherson has to be feeling the heat.

Protesters rally against electronic voting machines
By Kevin Yamamura SACRAMENTO BEE

SACRAMENTO - Dan Ashby's button asked, "Who did your voting machine vote for?" Michelle Gabriel held a sign accusing Secretary of State Bruce McPherson of flip-flopping on voting security procedures.
Other activists promoted the slogan, "Live Free or Diebold."

Electronic voting critics rallied Wednesday at McPherson's downtown headquarters to denounce his decision last month to certify Diebold machines for 2006 and testify against three other computer-based systems under review.

They charged that electronic voting machines are prone to hackers and testified they would prefer paper ballots.

McPherson certified Diebold on Feb. 17 after receiving a state-conducted analysis that found Diebold's election system had "a number of security vulnerabilities," but concluded that "they are all easily fixable" and "manageable."

1. "Easily Fixable" is the problem
Mr. McPherson. If they weren't 'easily fixable' people would not object so.

2. Keep at it, everyone in California! Keep the pressure on - don't let them
Steal your right to vote. Honest elections with a paper trail go to the very core of a democratic society. Without them, we have...

We have what we have NOW!

George Bush = DICTATOR. Democracy is dying. We must save America and put a stop to the degradation the Repugs have forced upon us illegally.

Thanks to everyone in California!!!

3. I am just curious
When after the next Presidential election, when a democrat is being sworn into office, and we look back at the Diebold machines that we used to vote him/her in.

what are we supposed to say about the machines at that point?

No form of voting is secure, any way the process is done, we as a collective group of voters must take for granted that what is decided in the end is actaully what was voted on.

I have often wondered about the whole process,
the candidates are decided by the political parties, not by the voters own words or input.
What we then have are a couple of people that have been chosen for us to run, and we are supposed to choose from their given choices.
and when all is said and done, what is it that certifies our private votes were tallied in the correct fashion?

to me the descrepancies in the voting go much deeper than the diebold machines, the descrepancies are seated deep within the chambers of congress and the senate.

example. Who did I vote for in the last Presidential elections? if I dont actually tell you, you dont really know for sure, you can only assume.

just my opionion, curious as to how others look at this situation.

4. We will say the same thing about them we're saying now:
They're easily hackable, insecure, made to steal elections and not count votes, run on secret, proprietarial software that even the elections officials can't look at. They're almost never audited to see if they are counting accurately. They're programmed by extreme right-wing partisans. Elections where they're used are almost always suspect and frequently way beyond the margin of error when compared with the results of exit polls and pre-election polls. There are beaucoup whistleblowers and computer scientists who are screaming about their insecurity and hackability. They've been shown in numerous tests and demonstrations to be easily hackable.

The results of any one election have nothing to do with the facts that we're complaining about.

You can't have a democracy when votes are counted this way. Not possible.

5. As long as the Republicans control the WH and have the chance
to retain it by machine trickery, there will be no way to know what Dems will do because there will never be a Dem elected. Paper ballots will let us know who really gets the people's vote. If the machines are vulnerable, why use them?

6. I get the sense that
'Southern Marylander' and perhaps others here don't really *get* what is going on or have little desire to. Go to Bradblog.com and get a little educated about the Diebold engineered election fraud. Then talk again.

7. You might be correct
I will check out the link you provided.
I am not so much smarter than everbody else that I think my theory is the only correct one.
I am however smart enough to research certain things when I am advised to do so.

But the issue that I DO have is that with a closed and secret ballot, there is NO way to be certain that the outcome is really what the people voted for.

I have not trusted the government in this country for many years, and that is regardless of what political party the officials were with.

I dont trust bush, I did not trust Bill Clinton, I dont trust Hillary, and I would never hunt with Cheney.... well, ok, I might hunt with him, but I damn sure would keep my sights on him.

What the people as in You and I would like to see this country become, I believe in.
I just have a hard time thinking that the elected officials are really in tune with what we want, and need.

11. Wait a sec.

Someone doubts the concerns expressed over evoting and your going to put the exit poll up as the first argument?

We. Are. Doomed.

9. i am sorry if i sound harsh....
but right now this country is on the verge of slipping further into fascism courtesy of the repukes mostly (but also democrat asswipes)and there are so many pieces of shit happening. The Diebold thing is well-documented... BushCo. Fascists stole the last election. Well proven now. Nothing can be done about it. They stole the first with a repuke supreme court that 'gave' them that election. They created a new pearl harbor with 9/11 (see http://www.scholarsfor911truth.org/) that gave them the power and control to undermine the constitution and now (with the passage of the piece of shit 'patriot' act) essentially eliminate the bill of rights and, of course, the camps are being built. So ya'll better get educated. Maybe you'll be in time to get hauled off with the rest of us to 'have a little rest' in the country.

SO.... if you're just starting this quest you better get a move on. Good luck. And I mean that.
