Alert NC Duers and BBV people!!
ALERT !!!! Gary Bartlett spinning bad canvass for more DRE's, CONTACT!!!

I just heard this on channel 14, since 20 NC counties missed their canvass Gary Bartlett (who heads the elections in NC, our state is one of the few where the Sec of State does not control elections) is saying that it's the prov. ballots that are causing the trouble, and that the solution is to buy and more DRE's!! I don't know his political affil. but he's spinning like a repuke, and I know the citizens of NC DON'T WANT THIS! He said they need 80 million dollars and they have 50 Million, and so they are only 30 away. HELL NO!!! Please everybody, please contact him and your reps to let them know we want an end to DREs.

Bartlett, Gary

1. Try an intelligible post, describing what you are trying to convey.

8. He wants NC to buy more electronic voting machines.
even though there are massive problems and inconsistencies in at least five counties.

Forgive me for thinking everone knew what a DRE was, I have been eating, drinking and sleeping BBV since election day.

He is spinning the story that since the HAVA regulations that insist of provisional ballots have made the 20 counties miss their canvass, NC needs to buy more DRE's.

I have sent him info on the dangers of machines without an audit trail (paper ballot) more than once, as have other DUers, so I know that he knows whats up.

9. Money begets money. It's a cyle of cash. If I could figure out a way to
charge 100 million bucks to count ballots by hand, and promissed to donate some of that money back to politicians' reelection campaigns, politicians would be arguing that they need to replace their 80 million dollar computer ballots with more paper ballots.

I am so sure that 90% of what drives computer voting is that it's expensive. It's the privatization of a public function and it encourages the circulation of millions of dollars from taxpayers to corporations and then to politicians.

for influential corporations.

16. DRE = Direct Recording Electronic
voting machine

Usually thought of as a touchscreen voting machine, but could also be an optical scanner, punchcard reader, or some other device that reads ballots directly into a computer.

You know, the thing we've been bitching about for the last four years.

3. ..and if they pull this off
...and if they pull this off next they'll say how exit polls caused all these problems and have them dropped. Then we'll be in the dark.

10. Direct recording electronic voting machines, or
"black boxes" as they are referred to around here, do not have any auditable capacity, and computer scientists such as Dr. Avi Rubin and Dr. Rebecca Mercuri say (and I believe) they can be programmed to give votes to anyone the programmer wants them to, regardless of what politician you choose on the screen above. NC's gov. and sec. of state are dems, and this Gary Bartlett is acting like a total DINO dumbass for trying to get the leg to spend 30 million more on these pieces of junk that just gave Bush the election, along with optical scans, which apparently suck too.

Not only can they be programmed, those in the know say they can be hacked into during the election if a modem is attached, and anyone smart enough can change election results.

14. Don't really need a modem installed to hack the vote
I have been a programmer approximately 20 years. If you want to talk about what could happen, there could be a trojan running on the election machines that could be running like a system service. You can even name the processes whatever you want.

It could work like this:

7:00 polls open, trojan running
8:00 party A is programmed in the trojan to assure a win but party B is ahead so the trojan starts subtracting a vote every 5 votes for party B and gives that vote to party A
9:00 party A starts to pull ahead enough, trojan lays off and checks the numbers every few minutes or so to make sure that the election is going the way they want it to. If it starts to go the other way for party B again, then the trojan repeats the steps above.

Think about this for a bit. Could be programmed in a couple lines of code and the program could be started whenever the machine is turned on running in stealth mode or renamed as a process that may look like a system process.

Hack the Vote! I'm sure the video would be as good if not better than Mosh. :)
