This just in from Alan Dechert of Open Voting Consortium. Whatever you think about OVC's approach to the voting technology issue, I urge you to read their suggestions for getting out the vote for Debra Bowen for Secretary of State. Getting her elected could actually prevent California from becoming another Ohio.
If you're not in CA, please forward this to people you know who are.
I will cross-post in the CA forum, so please help keep that thread kicked as well as this one, just for about 30 hours (polls close in California at 8 p.m. Tuesday, tomorrow).
Thanks!
Help Debra Bowen by donating to a grassroots-sponsored
radio campaign!
Latinos for America has produced (pro-bono) Spanish
language radio ads for the Los Angeles market that will
run in Spanish talk radio on Monday and Tuesday of next
week.
We need your help to get them placed. Whatever you can
give will help: Follow the link to 'Valley Grassroots for Demo-
cracy' (
https://secure.actblue.com/contribute/entity/9271 )
and make a donation ending in $.06 (for example $50.06
or $500.06 -- whatever you want to give). The $.06 will let
Valley Grassroots for Democracy know that your contribution
is to go to the Bowen ads in Spanish:

is neck and neck, and anything you do will make a difference!

We need volunteers to do some electioneering near poll sites. You have to stay 100 feet away from the entrance, but we can greatly increase awareness by showing support for Bowen. If you've been contacting voters as I have lately, you know that awareness of the Secretary of State contest is still very low. I walked precincts in Sacramento (with friends from Sacramento for Democracy) all day yesterday. A very low percentage of those I spoke with had any strong opinion about it. The slightest suggestion could win their vote.
At this point, the message needs to be very very brief. If it's just one word, it's BOWEN. If two words, maybe BOWEN -- GREAT. My eleven word pitch is SHE SUPPORTS YOUR RIGHT TO KNOW HOW YOUR VOTE GETS COUNTED!
Specifically, here's what you can do: Go to Dan Wood's page and get a copy of a Bowen Sign. Print it out and take it to a copy shop and blow it up to a decent size. Paste in onto cardboard and you have a sign. Take the sign to a poll site and stand there waving the sign all day tomorrow.

http://www.electbowen.org/Bowenlawn_jackie.pdf Yes, that's a lot of work but we need you to do it. The future of democracy depends on it. Just do it! You can find other materials to print out and copy at
http://www.electbowen.org/Materials.html At this point, don't worry about coordinating who goes to what poll site. There are 20,000 poll sites in California. If more than one person goes to the same poll site, that's fine. You can take turns giving each other breaks. If several, you can have more fun. I don't know how many of the 20,000 poll sites we can cover in this way, but if only a thousand or even a few hundred, it could make the difference.
Here is a list of counties in California:
http://www.answers.com/topic/list-of-counties-in-californiaYou can find poll site locations from the county web sites.
If you are outside of California, please consider traveling to California today to visit your friends and/or relatives here in order to help with these vital Election Day GOTV tasks.
Thank you once again. Send this to everyone. Send this to everyone. Send this to everyone.
