Brief story on NPR this morning on voting irregularities and fraud...
I didn't see it on the web site, but I didn't stream their news.

Anyway, they left out that Dielbold and ES&S are big GOP contributors. Also didn't mention that the fraus could occur after voting machine results are transferred to unsecured PC's for tabulation. (I hope I got all of that right.)

Instead they mentioned Nader's investigation and a few regularities. Then they interviewed pro-BBV people. They made it sound like a new Gospel was discovered and we shouldn't live without it.

Just my take.

1. I listened to a little of it, but had to shut it off.
They kept referring to irregularities involving the votes for "a candidate". They never mentioned that the errors and irregularities all broke for Bush. They never mentioned the fact that random, machine cliches just do not break 99% of the time in FAVOR of one particular candidate. The NPR whore was speaking as though it was all, somehow, even-handed. Made me sick - turned it off...

3. I heard it again two hours later. They had one
interview that was more even-handed. The man said he was concerned about the irregularities they found, but was more concerned about what might have escaped notice.

I think as the story develops more, they'll start digging in a little deeper. Not enough people know about hte work being done by Bev Harris, et al. I think emailing them about BBV would be a good start. Just mentioning the story and the possibilities is helping to keep it alive, although I can see where Rethuglicans might see it as sour grapes.

5. Here's my letter to them...
Dear Sir or Madam:

First, I would like to thank you for covering the vote fraud story on this morning's news. These are serious allegations that merit serious coverage. But I would like to offer a correction. Your correspondent kept referring to voting irregularities in relation to a "candidate." Yet the discrepancies in the presidential election disproportionately favored George W. Bush**. This pattern is easy to see, and - at the risk of lecturing journalists on how to do journalism - a large part of solid investigative journalism involves spotting patterns, following through on them, and reporting them. Your attention to this in the future will be sincerely appreciated.

If you need to know more about the charges being made, and about electronic voting machines in general, please see the Black Box Voting web site, www.blackboxvoting.org.

Thank you for your attention.

Sincerely,

(CW)

NGU.

9. npr
I was actually encouraged by the segment that I heard this morning...they brought in people from both sides on this issue, but at least they gave the story legitimacy and also treated it as a 'real' issue instead of talking about little tin foil hats. ;)
