1. NY Times Ohio '04 Dirty? Wow way to get on a story.
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/08/31/washington/31ohio.htm...

The NY Times was and has been front and center in trying to kill the "notion"
that Ohio was dirty in '04.

<The Washington Post immediately dismissed allegations of fraud as ''conspiracy theories,''(1) and
The New York Times declared that ''there is no evidence of vote theft or errors on a large scale.''(2)>
From Robert F Kennedy Jr's Rolling Stone Article, Was the 2004 Election Stolen?

But look what is in the NY Times today.

Local Level Ballot Stuffing
More Votes then Registered Voters
Voting Cards that should not have been "read" counted
After only 35,000 ballots from more then 5 million cast
studied many examples of "irregularities"

I live in Columbus, OH and saw and heard the election crimes and theft 1st hand .....
please please please .... We need to get the truth out about 04. Because just like 2000
in Florida the real winner of the race did not get to become President.

The critics say the ballots should be saved pending an investigation. They also say the secretary of state’s proposal to delay the destruction does not go far enough, and they intend to sue to preserve the ballots.

In Florida in 2003, historians and lawyers persuaded state officials not to destroy the ballots in the 2000 presidential election, and those ballots are stored at the state archive.

Lawyers for J. Kenneth Blackwell, the Ohio secretary of state, said although he did not have the authority to preserve the ballots, Mr. Blackwell would issue an order in a day or two that delays the destruction and that reminds local elections officials that they have to consult the public records commissions in each county.

2. AZ: Elections officials assure public that ballot problem is isolated

By JOANNA DODDER
The Daily Courier

PRESCOTT Former Prescott City Council candidate Howard Mechanic was surprised to get two primary election ballots in the mail earlier this month.

While he doesn't plan to vote twice, he's concerned that someone else might try it.

Yavapai County Recorder Ana Wayman-Trujillo is assuring the public that, despite problems with 442 county mail ballots, the county knows exactly who received the error ballots and by Tuesday she personally had contacted all but about eight of those voters. She hopes to reach them all by today.

Officials concluded that 442 random Yavapai County voters received in the mail either two correct primary election ballots, one correct and one wrong ballot, one wrong ballot or no ballot at all, Wayman-Trujillo said. The county mailed the ballots on Aug. 14.

3. AZ: Voters now will be required to show specific kinds of ID

Voters now will be required to show specific kinds of ID

Staff Reports, Tri-Valley Dispatch August 29, 2006

Because of Proposition 200, which voters approved in 2004, everyone who wants to vote at the polls must show one of two kinds of identification:
-- One piece of photo identification - such as a valid Arizona driver's license, Arizona identification card, tribal identification card or other federal-, state- or municipal-issued identification - that shows the same address as the one filed with the Voter Registration Office.

To make sure the address on your photo ID matches the address filed with voter registration, call the Voter Registration Office or send in a new voter registration form.

Forms are available at libraries, post offices and city halls, from the Voter Registration Office or from the county Web page, www.co.pinal.az.us. Click on "Pinal County Web site" and scroll down to "Recorder." Click on "Recorder" and scroll down to "EZVoter Registration."

4. AZ: Judge hears challenge to state's voter ID requirement

Judge hears challenge to state's voter ID requirement

PAUL DAVENPORT
The Associated Press

PHOENIX - A federal judge on Wednesday began hearing a broad-based legal assault on a 2004 state law that requires Arizonans to produce specific forms of identification to register to vote or cast a ballot at a polling station.

The case finds one Arizona county at odds with the other 14 as the challengers, including numerous civil rights and minority groups, contend that the voter-approved 2004 law would deny many Arizonans their voting rights.

The 2004 law, placed on that year's ballot through an initiative campaign, requires that voters at polling places produce government-issued picture ID or two pieces of other non-photo identification specified by the law. It requires proof of citizenship when registering to vote.

Other parts of the 2004 law dealt with ineligibility of illegal immigrants to receive some government services and benefits.

5. CT: The future of voting is soon to change
The future of voting is soon to change

By CHARLES W. KIM

TORRINGTON - There will be a change in the way people in Connecticut cast their ballots.
By 2007, paper ballots and an optical reader tabulation machine will replace lever voting machines throughout the state, Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz said Wednesday.
"These are the most accurate and secure machines," Bysiewicz told more than 100 local election and municipal officials gathered in the City Hall auditorium Wednesday morning. "There are no instances of hacking into the system."

The state is spending $15.7 million in federal funds from the federal Help America Vote Act (HAVA) to buy three machines for each polling location in the state, Bysiewicz said. The state received about $32 million in federal funds for the program and is holding on to the additional $16 million. Each polling place will have two of the machines, with a third used for a back up.

LHS Associates, LLC, Methuen, Mass. entered into a 20-year contract with the state to sell and service the machines, LHS representative Ken Hazure said. The firm is a data processing service founded in 1972 and has 23,406 optical reading machines working in 29 states.

6. CA: Popular Vote Gets Thumbs Up in Calif.

Popular Vote Gets Thumbs Up in Calif.

By ROBIN HINDERY
The Associated Press
Thursday, August 31, 2006; 9:36 AM

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The California Legislature passed a bill that would give California's 55 electoral votes to the winner of the national popular vote, rather than the candidate who captured the state _ but for now, the measure stands a slim chance of becoming reality.

That's because it could go into effect only if states with a combined total of 270 electoral votes _ the number now required to win the presidency _ agree to the same process.

Similar legislation is pending in Colorado, Illinois, Louisiana and Missouri _ which have a combined 50 electoral votes. With California's 55, the legislation would still be less than halfway there.

The county attorney believes portions of the petition conflict with state election laws.

SARASOTA -- A citizens' petition to revise the Sarasota County Charter and require voting machines that produce a verifiable paper receipt for recounts has been steered to a circuit court for validation rather than advertised for inclusion on the Nov. 7 general election ballot.

On Tuesday, the County Commission unanimously agreed to follow the advice of its legal staff, which has reviewed the petition language and found portions that might conflict with Florida election laws. An expedited court ruling will be sought.

An organization called the Sarasota Alliance for Fair Elections collected more than 14,000 petition signatures from registered voters -- well more than of the required number -- to have a referendum question about voting machines placed on the countywide ballot.

"We've identified a number of provisions that appear to conflict with the state election code," County Attorney Steve DeMarsh told the commission at Tuesday's meeting. "If the commission is in doubt, it should seek declaratory relief in the courts."

SPRINGFIELD - Averting a legal showdown between the city and the federal government, Mayor Charles V. Ryan has agreed to speed up voting reforms to help more Spanish-speaking residents register and vote in city elections.

Under an agreement reached yesterday with the U.S. Justice Department, the city will hire 57 bilingual poll workers, appoint an Hispanic voting coordinator, allow federal election monitors and make translators and other services available beginning with the Sept. 19 primary elections.

For the November election, the city must hire 95 bilingual poll workers, compared with 37 that staffed last year's municipal election. Overall, the city employs 384 poll workers on election day, spread out over 64 precincts.

9. NJ: Stankiewicz charges election irregularities

Stankiewicz charges election irregularities
JOE D’AQUILA, Staff Writer
08/31/2006

TRENTON--A statement given by suspended city finance chief Chris Stankiewicz charges that workers on Mayor Doug Palmer’s re-election campaign were told they would have their pay withheld if they didn’t fill out absentee ballots.

Stankiewicz made the accusation in a statement she gave to Tony Mack’s attorney for their effort to challenge the May 9 mayoral election in court.

She offered the testimony just days after being suspended from her position as Trenton’s Chief Financial Officer and comptroller, and Mack attorney Scott Capriglione issued a copy of the document to The Trentonian yesterday.

In the document, Stankiewicz said a person she characterized as a campaign head and a second person told campaign workers that they would only be paid if they filled out absentee ballots, casting their vote for Palmer.

10. WA: Get ready to vote by mail (Snohomish Co)

Get ready to vote by mail
Ballots, complete with "I Voted" stickers, will be mailed Wednesday.

By Jeff Switzer
Herald Writer

Now everyone can vote in their pajamas - and still get their "I Voted" sticker.

Snohomish County launches its first all-mail election this week and plans to mail primary ballots and voter guides on Wednesday.

All 334,700 registered voters in the county will receive mail ballots at their homes, offices or vacation cabins, depending on where voters want their ballot sent.

The move makes Snohomish County the most populous in the state to close its local polling places and make the switch.

Information Package on the Controversy and Trial

Certificationall together here. Parts 1-3 are my articles in "Scoop" relating to the
trial and the unfolding story of the disregard for voting rights and political
interference of the Speaker and the California Secretary of State's office. Part 4
is Bradblog, Brad Friedman's ongoing updates - newest to oldest. Great history.
Get the word out.

This is an outrage. They just toss aside an election whenever the Speaker feels
like swearing in a member. The swearing in was done when EVERYBODYknew that there
was a controversy. It's offensive to average people and an affront to our
democratic values.
