Free DVD! Lou Dobbs: Democracy at Risk - copy and share this!
Edited on Thu Sep-21-06 02:42 PM by garybeck
Folks,,, this can be a very useful tool in getting the truth out about e-voting.
Time to fire up your DVD burners and BE THE MEDIA!

Democracy at Risk:
CNN's Lou Dobbs and Kitty Pilgrim Report

a free DVD

We hear it all the time -- "If all this is really going on with our election system, why isn't the media talking about it? Surely there are some good reporters out there who would want to expose the problems with electronic voting, if it's as bad as you say."

Well we have an answer for those questions now. It IS as bad as we say, and the media IS covering it. And better yet, we can hand them a free copy of this DVD and let them see for themselves!

Lou Dobbs does the 6:00 pm news on CNN, primetime on "the most respected name in news." So when they cover a story, it's not by mistake. And when they cover a story over 20 times in the last couple months, they are obviously showing their concern about a very important topic.

Those who watch Lou Dobbs on CNN know that occasionally he will latch on to an issue and keep covering it until it's resolved, because of its importance to our nation. As an example, Lou has been focusing attention on the lack of border security for months if not years. His focus on this issue has helped force legislators and voters to address the problems at the border and today there is legislation pending in Congress to do just that.

In a similar way, the regular segment "Democracy at Risk" on Lou's show has tenaciously reported on the severe problems with electronic voting - the lack of security on the systems, the unacceptable error rate on the machines, and the questionable practices of the private companies who make them. Every time a new independent study exposes problems with the machines, or an actual election experiences trouble (which is quite often), Lou and Kitty Pilgrim, a regular journalist on his program, are there to report it to the American people.

Lou and Kitty deserve a lot of credit for being the only ones in the "mainstream" media for reporting on this. Those of us in the "other" media salute them for helping inform the public on this issue that is vital to our democracy. Their coverage has given more credibility and recognition to our ongoing fight for open and fair elections.

It all begins with awareness. The more people realize that electronic voting systems are threatening our democracy, the sooner we will demand something be done about it. We all just want to have confidence that our votes are being counted properly, and the candidate with the most votes is named the winner. Lou, Kitty, and CNN are showing us clearly: we have reason to not have such confidence, and there is much work to be done to restore a transparent and reliable election system in our country.

About the DVD

This DVD is a collection of recordings of "Democracy at Risk," the coverage described above. Included are 21 segments on the topic, which aired between June and September, 2006.

This free DVD is not for sale. Please do not purchase or sell this DVD. We are making the DVD available for a small fee of $4 just to cover the cost of materials and shipping. Once you receive a copy, please use a DVD burner to make more copies and give them away to as many people as possible.

Now, when people say, "why isn't the media covering this?" you can hand them a copy of this DVD, and simply say, "Watch this. They are."

How to get a copy

We're working on providing a way to download the files and burn your own free copy of the DVD. And we're also working on creating a network of "DVD Burners" who are willing to copy and send free copies out to those who request them. Until then you can get a copy from the Solar Bus.

13. Bit Torrent, eh?
There's gotta be some Bit Torrent tracker out there that could be used for distribution of the DVD ISO (or DVD folder structure). ChomskyTorrents.org, perhaps?

15. reponse
we've had limited success offering the CDROM on bittorrent before. i am not a big bit torrent user, but as I understand it works best if a lot of people are downloading. I think the problem before was not enough seeders, or downloaders either. I tried it once and it took longer than a regular internet http server we had it on (archive.org). I'm willing to try it again this time but I need someone like yourself to take the initiative to set it up because I don't know how. I'm happy to send you a copy of the DVD and you can go for it!

16. Hi Gary - Greetings from France
I saw you mention the DVD last week and was hoping it would be available soon.

The machines are coming to France and at least 15 cities will be using them next year. I'm planning to do conferences to "head em off at the pass" and the Lou Doobs series will add a lot of credibility. Since I will have to cut/edit and subtitle them, a high quality avi would be easiest to use.

What was your original format and what file size?

What's the latest episode? Do you have the one on last week's Maryland fiasco?

I've got practically all through the end of August, but in small wmv format.

If you can send me your e-mail, we can continue outside the forum.

I can also send you some links to other videos, equally interesting.

Ciao,

bushspeak@fr.st

17. hi
you can contact me at gary(at)solarbus.org...

the files I have are mpeg-2 files. They were TiVo files originally. they are high res, very large files. I was able to fit 21 episodes, about 3-4 minutes each, on to one 4.7G DVD. There is literally zero room left on the DVD.

if you want the source mpeg files, I can burn them as data to a blank dvd and send it to you. as I understand mpeg-2 files are difficult to mess with because they have proprietary encoding or something, but you're welcome to have at it.
