Blackwell purged Ohio Voter Rolls Oct 1st.- Vote Early (Daily Kos)

ACTION ALERT: Blackwell purged Ohio Voter Rolls Oct 1st.- Vote Early.
by KStreetProjector
Wed Oct 18, 2006

.................

Then, one insider, probably an extremist, but certainly very close to Mr. Ken Mehlman abruptly stopped the conversation. He told table that it was impossible they would lose either house. He also predicts an Ohio GOP sweep.

He informed the group that over the last year, in four critical states the GOP needs to hold huge purges of the voter rolls have just been finished.

The insider did not say which four states, but did say Ohio was among them.

His claim was a new Diebold voter registry system had been installed over the last year. The last week of July and the first week of August a "test run" was made of the systems ability to purge ineligable voters. The purge generated names and test letters sent out to 1.2 million Ohio addresses with a focus on University's, Apartment addresses with high turnover. He claims they made the letters seem just functionary, but they have an action component to avoid being purged from the rolls.

Something tells me that the purgings all had "D" by their names.

I'm certain the names with an "R" beside them are alive and well.

11. That's how they purged the votes from soldiers in Iraq in 2004.
Sent letters to their home addresses, with "do not forward". Anything returned was purged. Greg Palast said page after page of soldiers and airmen were purged from the voting lists.

I wonder if I should call my local city hall and ask, "Am I *still* registered to vote? I've heard a report that I may not be. Can you look me up?"

Also, Virginians, any other action we can take to keep things honest in our state?

26. Diebold doesn't mean nothing - but Indiana has Quest & we are 1 of the 4
states targeted - I am certain. There have been 100,000's of names purged from Indiana registration system.

Diebold doesn't mean everything - it is a tool of the immoral. Immoral people will use other tools, too.

"Diebold doesn't mean everything - it is a tool of the immoral. Immoral people will use other tools, too."

Agreed!!

Indiana is a likely candidate, lots of Republicans in control of your state right?

I was thinking they would try to pull something in Florida and VA or MO as well, same scenario, a Republican stranglehold on state gov't.

I pray that it doesn't work for them this time.

35. Diebold voter registry system????
I just don't get it.

What does the voting appliance -- electronic, mechanical, digital or analog -- have to do with registration?

OK, wait, maybe I do remember reading something about that... Is Ohio like Georgia, where they just turned over the complete administration of elections over to a for-hire/for-republicans outfit? After 2002, after Diebold took over Peach State elections, final talllies confounded many pre-election expectations. With both leading solidly in the polls, Sen. Max Cleland and Congresswoman McKinney were both 'defeated'. Irregularities were reported, and a documentary movie was made. (A good one, I'm told. Not seen by too many people.) But I thought Georgia was an unusual case. What do the vote-rigging machines have to do with voter registration? I thought they could only scramble the results *after* ballots were actually cast??

36. Diebold sells a separate software application for registration database
maintenance, in addition to the e-voting appliances that they sell.

Besides switching to Diebold software for maintaining registrations, Ohio and other states are centralizing the maintenance at the state level instead of letting the counties do it as they have in the past.

37. They use "all of the above" - purging, miscount, false info to voters abou
election date, vote registers to opposite candidate, intimidation, fewer machines in dem districts - long lines, machines break - plus all the obfuscations you've seen in florida - everything to steal an election.
