Big Voter Turnout Seen Among Young People
Haven't they been saying that this DIDN'T happen?

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20041108/ap_on_el_ge/young_voters&e=2

Under-30 voters came through in big numbers this year, with more than 20 million casting a ballot for president, researchers found. The turnout bested their 2000 showing by more than nine percentage points and heartened activists who worked to get young voters to the polls.

****
This time, young voters were the only group that favored Democrat Kerry. The AP's exit polls found that under-30s favored Kerry over Bush, 55 percent to 44 percent, compared to a 48-46 edge for Al Gore (news - web sites) in 2000.

1. Best turnout since 1972
...the media just wants someone to blame it on.

It's always easiest to blame the kids.

4. yeah they kept saying
on the MSM that the youth vote didn't turn out, and it p*ssed me off - I spent months at school registering people, writing articles for the school paper, etc. And then I get an email a few days after the election from rock the vote ( rockthevote.org ) that says that 51.6% of the eligible youth showed up. That's up from 32% from 2000.

5. I can't tell you how many times I heard "17% in 2000 and
17% in 2004" -- and I absolutely KNEW it couldnt be true. I knew it.

But 51% blows me away! Well done, young folks!

6. But this doesn't add up
If 51% of the youth vote is 20 million people and 116.7 million voted in this election then, yes 20 million is roughly 17% so that means there are 40 million youth eligible to vote.

BUT:using those numbers for 2000 doesn't add up 17% of 105.4 votes is roughly 18 million, which, in order to be %32 means there were 56 million youth eligible to vote in 2000.

There can't be 16 million more youth in 2000 than in 2004.

Yet more evidence the 2004 numbers are not right.

3. what they were saying was
that the same percentage of the overall eletorate were young voters, giving the impression that the young vote did not come out in any extraordinary way.

however, since this was the biggest voter turnout ever, it was also the biggest turn out of young voters ever.

7. Good Grief!
It is beginning to appear that the new rule of the media thumb is...

Leave no truth undistorted. What the heck is going on?

Where are Woodward and Bernstein when you need them?
