Baron Hill in Indiana has asked for a recount.
Due to the Libertarian votes in some counties going Republican.

So that is some progress.

Maybe it will be catching.

6. There is this...
but I've been trying to find something that talks about the thing with the Libertarian votes.

Associated Press

November 12, 2004

The state Democratic Party today requested a recount of the congressional race, which Rep. Baron Hill lost by a narrow margin in last week's election.

The recount request was filed by state Democratic Chairman Kip Tew, said Kate Shepherd, a spokeswoman for the Indiana secretary of state's office.

Hill, a Democrat who was seeking election to a fourth term in Congress, conceded defeat to Republican Mike Sodrel the day following the Nov. 2 election.

Preliminary results from the secretary of state's office on today showed Sodrel ahead by 1,485 votes -- 142,257 to 140,772 -- in the 9th District in southeastern Indiana.

Messages seeking comment were left for state Democratic Party officials.

Hill's apparent defeat was the first time in 10 years that an incumbent lost a congressional election in Indiana.

3. It's becoming inevitable, but it's not time to stop aggregrating the data
and analyzing to make sure we stay ahead of the simplistic nay-saying in the MSM.

Baron may have decided to have a recount partly due the voting anomolies in Franklin County - but that is not in his district (his is 9th).

"The error caused votes for a straight Democratic ticket in Franklin County -- selecting all Democratic candidates -- to credit Libertarian candidates instead.

The mistake was in the programming of optical-scan voting machines sold by Fidlar Election Co., Rock Island, Ill. John Kruszynski, the company's director of elections, said only Franklin County was affected.<snip>

Ripley, Scott and Switzerland counties are in the 9th Congressional District, which had the state's closest congressional race this year. Democratic Rep. Baron Hill lost to Republican challenger Mike Sodrel by just 1,430 votes.

But the programming error, even if it had been made in the three counties, would not have been enough to deny Sodrel the election, because the Libertarian count totaled just 309 votes in those counties.

Franklin County is in the 6th Congressional District, where Republican Mike Pence won re-election over Democratic challenger Mel Fox by more than 98,000 votes.

Franklin County had only 740 Libertarian votes, so that if Fox got them all in a recount, she would still be far short of winning."

10. What I found interesting is that
it was the state Dem PARTY that is asking for the recount -- apparently, they are actually being pro-active and backing their candidate.

Amazing, isn't it?
