has anyone done a historical survey of voting machines?

has anyone done a historical survey of voting machines?
I, for one, would be interested in seeing a history of optical scan voting machine implementation and then contrast that with voting trends... ie, did districts/states that instituted voting machines then start trending Republican in elections?

It would be interesting to see, I think.

1. I just got through googling
collier + votes. There's a history of almost exactly the same things we're discussing now. She wrote the book Votescam.
