[Ohio] Elections suits may be settled

Elections suits may be settled

Brunner, Dann to rethink those with constitutional merit

Thursday, January 18, 2007
Mark Niquette and James Nash
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner and Attorney General Marc Dann want to resolve election-related lawsuits filed against former Secretary J. Kenneth Blackwell, a move Brunner said yesterday could cost the state "large sums" in attorneys’ fees.

The 20 pending lawsuits include a sweeping complaint filed in 2005 by a group of advocates led by the League of Women Voters of Ohio that says Blackwell, former Gov. Bob Taft and their predecessors failed to ensure Ohioans’ right to vote.

Brunner and Dann said they’re seeking to resolve the cases in part because some date back to the 2004 election, but also because they agree with some of the claims.

-snip-

Blackwell’s position has been that the lawsuit was misdirected because bipartisan county boards of elections are responsible for running elections and the system is working well.

But Brunner said "the kinds of things they’re pushing for are things that make it easier and better for people to vote, and why would we be against that? "

1. Unfortunately, it's too late to give us back our stolen election in 2004
:(

3. cool, I'm the first recommend
I especially like this bit: "Also yesterday, Dann said he has fired seven outside lawyers that Blackwell hired to work on election-related cases because they were retained on a 'partisan basis.'"

4. Hmm...
"But Brunner said 'the kinds of things they’re pushing for are things that make it easier and better for people to vote, and why would we be against that?'"

Why indeed?

5. did I ever tell you that you are my Fav?
and guess what curly haired left wing geek has a little input w/ Jennifer?
that would be me. funny how things work out. and have I sent her
100% true facts about the 2004 election in Ohio? why yes.

an e mail she sent to my 75 year old mom who supported her campaign.

< Dear xxxx,

Just a note to thank you for supporting me in my race for Ohio
Secretary of State. One of the unexpected benefits of the campaign has been
running into high school class mates I haven't seen for years as I traveled the
state. Your son, Tom, is a great warrior of democracy, and I am impressed
with how dedicated he has been to helping candidates like Mary Jo Kilroy and his
knowledge of voter protection issues.

Thank you again, and hope this holiday is a good one for you and your family.

Jennifer Brunner >

Jennifer's acceptance speech was great. In 08 she promised an open, fair, and
100% voter verifiable election. She and the new A.G, just smacked down Blackwell's
payments to his old staff as "not in the best interests of the people of Ohio."

The head of the State GOP, Bob Bennett, might be nervous because he just quit his
job too .... and he was involved up to his eyeballs in the 04 theft.

And little old Keith Olbermann is going to come out smelling like a rose because
he had the guts to report the truth.

6. Don't sell yourself "short"
I'm sure your "input" isn't that little.

:hi: You're a lucky boy to have such great people who care about Ohio. I'm jealous and will go eat worms and think about my sucky state.

7. Work to get the crime of the missing 18,000 votes noticed
Sooner or later we "conspiracy nut cases," are going to have the
last word ...... BTW didn't Jeb move into your condo?

trust me my input was very little but what I have gotten in I think
will go a long way to clean up this state. I am with you every time
I hear that bush won re-election I think I am going to have a stroke.

BTW all the 04 ballots will soon see the light of day. I wonder
what the NY Times will say then about us, "Dead Enders who couldn't
accept the reality that bush won fair and square." then?

The complicity of the major media in not covering the facts that in
2000, 2002, 2004, 2005, & 2006 documented and verifiable crimes
that affected the outcome of elections in this country can not be understated.

8. How are the ballots being released?
Jeb does not live here, thank you. :)

My local government just passed a "stern warning" for the Governor and friends to get a paper trail. Charlie says he's for it and I've emailed him. Let's see what happens.

10. The Ohio and Florida rules put in place to allow manipulation of minority voters votes by rejecting
provisionals voted in wrong precinct after malfeasance/misfeasance of officials to cause this to happen should be fixed.

Most of the thousands of minority votes not counted in Ohio and Florida in 2004 and large numbers in 2006 were clearly mostly the
result of manipulation of the voters by officials/poll workers/systematic dirty tricks

Votes by a legal voter for a candidate in a race covering the area of the voter should be counted, irregardless of whether the
voter votes in the correct precinct- as they are in other states and in the past in these states.
The current rules were clearly put in place to allow manipulation of the minority vote.

Likewise the consistent shortage of voting machines and use of machines that don't work properly in minority precincts should be ended somehow.

11. I've said before the job of SOS is perhaps one of the most powerful positions
in the country-especially in swing states. It will be interesting to see how Ohio fairs in future elections w/o Blackwell at the helm. May he burn in hell for annointing chimpy and thus sending so many people (both American and Iraqi) to their deaths.

12. If you really want to see the face of voter discimination
I would highly recommend a film by Laura Paglin, titled No Umbrella.

It is the story of one of the most miserable episodes in Cleveland, at one of the most screwed over precinct.

Runs about 26 minutes. We show it along with Stealing America: Vote by Vote. The show each other off well, IMHO.
