Foreign-Born Citizen Amendment

Hi, I'm doing research for a project in my AP Govt. class, on whether or not a Constitutional Amendment to allow naturalized foreign-born citizens to run for the Presidency. Any and all comments and information you may have would be helpful, and much appreciated.

4. It ought to be allowed for those

naturalized citizens who have lived in the US for something like 20 years. I suspect many of those who say they don't want to change the law are reacting to the specter of President Arnold.

As the child of an immigrant, I find most arguments against changing the law to be based in nativism. The president is neither emperor nor king - her or his ethnic background has nothing to do with the qualities needed to head one of the three co-equal branches of government. Nor does being native-born guarantee any loyalty to the nation.

6. Look at it this way...

Would England allow Arnold (or someone like him) to be Prime Minister?

You might also look into the time Henry Kissinger was Secretary of State. It unnerved a lot of people that he, a foreigner, was in line for the presidency.

there is no provision in the English Constitution to disallow foreign-born Prime Ministers
