Cast A Ballot, Then Hope

Written by Bud Foster kold news 13

"99% of the people can be wrong. We know that," Arnie Urken says with a smile.

Urken is a voting theorist. He's spent a distinguished academic career studying voting systems from roman times to modern times.

SNIP...There is no perfect system but the best he adds, "is a pencil and paper. Which is why so many countries do it that way."

But in this country, with the concern about the 24 hour news cycle, counting written ballots by hand is too slow.

We have sacrificed accuracy for speed and that's one reason why we can cast a ballot, be we cannot be absolutely sure it will be counted. `
