I wish Andy was here to experience this with us.
Edited on Mon Nov-03-08 11:51 PM by demodonkey

I miss him tonight, and I really wish he could be here for this election as history is being made. He would love this.

No, we don't have voter-verified paper ballots nationwide, but we have made some hefty dents in the bad old system(s). With a new start tomorrow, and CHANGE coming, we have to make sure that our electoral system changes too for Andy's sake, and for our own.

Hugs to all my Election Integrity friends. Good night and good luck tomorrow --

1. We helped change the whole national conversation about elections.
He was an inspiration to so many of us.

This is his success, as much as anyone involved in election integrity.

2. Me too. What he worked for is getting attention by
those who can help do something about it. I don't know what you mean in your last sentence. Andy's work is going to see a lot of recognition in the near future. Don't give up.

3. I'm helping the voter rights project in Ny ....
we were told Ny will get verified paper machines next year. This yr most of the electronic ones in use in my county are for handicapped voters.

5. I thought of Andy when I voted Friday.
I had a paper ballot and a paper trail.

And THIS is in stupid-ass Florida.

11. My biggest regret here on DU
is that I was too new, too shy and too stupid to step up and defend Andy properly in my usual hockey goon style at the time.

Never will that happen again.

16. Agree - my friend. And, isn't it amazing that we are almost at the moment ...
... of the dawn of the America we so very much have wanted to emerge and prevail.

:hi:

Peace,
Bob

20. It's incredible.
I was walking to school with my nine year old son, and realized that the only president he's ever known is Bush.

That all changes today.

Maybe the horrors and injustices of the last eight years put us in a position to leapfrog forward in history, rather than making incremental improvements, and break apart some of the paradigms that have limited our political discourse over the last fifty or hundred years.

:hi:

Enjoy this day, my good friend.

6. No doubt - he'd be climbing the walls right now, worried out of his mind...
But when finally called, he'd be as happy as all of us combined will be.

Andy, we're all thinking about you!

7. Andy would have been thrilled.
Someday, we'll also have a woman president. Someday, we'll have a gay president. One barrier at a time ....

19. I would like the day to come when we could have a Black, gay,
atheist female president--because none of those attributes should enter into the decision at all.

Or a transgendered president.

8. Thanks for mentioning Andy. I was thinking about him the other day.
I didn't "know" him, never met him or anything, just knew him from the nice DU'ers posting about him here, even before he became ill and passed away. (Beth, you're the only one I can think of off the top of my head.) What would Andy be thinking of all this now??

I wish he were here in body now, and not just in spirit.

I hope he and Toot can meet.

15. Agree. I've thought of Andy often, especially in these past few weeks.
I've thought of the delightful time I was able to spend in conversation with him at a coffee place on Westlake in Seattle.

So many challenges await President-elect Obama. But no challenge is greater than ensuring that in two years and in 100 years every single citizen of the Republic not only is able to vote but is able to verify that their vote was counted precisely as they intended it to be.

Andy understood that that was the essential element of democracy. And, he was unselfish and unrelenting in his commitment to that goal.

Peace,
Bob

17. He is remembered, no doubt about it.
It has been a very long and cruel rule by the Nazi rulers. I have been waiting since the coup of 2000. Andy has a spirit on this board. I rarely ever post anymore, but I remember so many since way back in the original underground. I had never thought that America could have ever had a coup, but it did happen. I can't sleep tonight after almost 8 years of Hell. I will finally be able take an easy breath with an Obama win. I know he will win, but I still remember the coup of 2000, a huge nightmare.

He was a great bloke. I spoke to him a couple of times by phone..... was a shame what happened at the end but he has become something of a rallying point for us all and he would be very proud about that.

23. I now definitely wish Andy was here with us.
Maybe he is :)

But he'd be here with us to witness US FINALLY WINNING DESPITE EVERYTHING THE REPUBLICANS *TRIED* TO DO!

Don't forget all the reports we know of, of the voting machine problems, the usual FAKE flyers, etc.

Too many people coming out to vote for any of that to work. I was actually thinking of Andy in my Religous Science church the other day...someone there reminds me of him a bit, his hair color, skin color, etc.
