Florida Canvassing Board Quietly Signs Off On 2004 Voting Results

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- This time around for Florida election officials, there were no cameras, few questions and a clear decision.

Unlike four years ago, when scores of TV trucks and hundreds of reporters camped outside the Capitol in Tallahassee, the state canvassing board quietly certified the results of the November second general election. President Bush captured the state's 27 electoral votes by a comfortable margin.

Secretary of State Glenda Hood breathed a sigh of relief, saying, "I think everyone is glad the election has come and gone."

When the canvassing board met in 2000, then-Secretary of State Katherine Harris prematurely declared Bush the winner. But it was a nearly a month later before the U-S Supreme Court certified Bush's victory over Democrat Al Gore in Florida to finally settle the outcome after weeks of recounts and legal wrangling.

from 2000, the votes where certified first, then there was a certain number of days for legally challenging results..and requesting recounts.

The idiot won Florida by 381,000 votes. That's a huge difference than 2000 (537) I'm not buying that shit. There is NO WAY that moron did anything that great in the past 4 years to garner that much support. The bastards stole Florida......AGAIN!

said That in Florida for bush to win that -- 100% of the GOP registered voters, ALL of the Independents and something like 30% of the Democrats had to vote for bush in order for that total to be correct for bush. We just gotta have faith -- lots of faith that all those people were waiting in line to vote for bush!

See folks we democrats just don't have enough faith -- this was a faith based election, to go along with a faith based war, a faith based EPA, why everything about the bushie administration is faith based now. We just have to have faith that bushie knows what is right for the whole damned world.

Now I understand why the State house and Senate is overwhelmingly GOP -- well hell why not when the vote is controlled by the GOP! You vote and then they decide who you voted for.

Why even bother voting in Florida? Because it seems no matter who you vote for -- the big vote counter up there in the sky (with the tooth Fairy and Santa Clause) is going to decide who you really wanted to vote for. Now don't bother yourself about making such big important decisions!

And yet the people still hope that if they can just get out more people to vote -- and wait in long lines to vote that perhaps they will make a difference. Sort of like the "pie in the sky" -- if you are good in this life -- you will be rewarded in the NEXT life.

I haven't heard so much crapola since the last time my mother dragged me into her church.

We can believe bush's win was due to miracles or magic -- or a few damned good hackers paid by someone in the bush crime family. I sort of kinda wonder if part of the GOP convention had a special seminar for hackers and other vote magicians. Seminar: "How to block the Democratic get out the vote efforts -- and if that doesn't work -- just have faith that our bush will win." (with the help of a few good hackers.)

If Randi is right with her numbers, we should start taking affadavits from people. Because I know he got a good chunk of those independent votes.

Those paper ballots need to be recounted by eye. I can gauruntee you the 381,000 vote margin will disappear. All it takes is for 190,501 to be proven to have been miscounted for bush. That ain't much, lets see that it gets done somehow, someway.

The election night totals did not include hundreds of thousands of absentee ballots in Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. I saw in the Palm Beach Post that with the added votes the difference is down to 80,000 votes! (Many Dems chose to vote absentee to leave a paper trail.)

But, the media is not picking this up. The vote has been certifed by Glenda Hood, but only the unofficial election night totals are posted on the Florida Dept. of State site.

TALLAHASSEE Ñ — The 2004 presidential election in Florida officially ended Sunday with so little fanfare and media attention that one of the state canvassing commission members didn't even bother to show up.

In fact, none of them did.

Agriculture Commissioner Charles Bronson and Chief Financial Officer Tom Gallagher called in to the certification ceremony, which lasted a brief 10 minutes and was conducted by Secretary of State Glenda Hood, Florida's top elections official.

But Attorney General Charlie Crist, the third member of the state Elections Canvassing Commission, was nowhere to be found, despite the best efforts of staff members to reach him by cellphone.

Sunday's ceremony held no surprises: President Bush defeated Democratic challenger Sen. John Kerry by 380,978 votes, a far cry from his 537-vote victory margin four years ago. And this time, Florida was spared the weeks of legal wrangling, recounts and the dimpled and pregnant chads that made the state the butt of late-night TV monologues.
