Please sign Kerry's Petition for Childrens Health Insurance!!
Today's e-mail letter from John Kerry was very encouraging, in that Kerry directly stated that all votes will be counted, and that the people in the U.S. have lost faith in the electoral process. He also urged all of us to sign the online petition for childrens' health insurance. The direct link is below. Please, let's sign up like crazy. This is one of many reasons why we support Kerry, and in my opinion, one of the most important reasons!

http://www.johnkerry.com/petition/everychild.php

"We must fight not only against George Bush's extreme policies -- we must also uphold our own values. This is why on the first day Congress is in session next year, I will introduce a bill to provide every child in America with health insurance. And, with your help, that legislation will be accompanied by the support of hundreds of thousands of Americans.
There are more than eight million uninsured children in our nation.
That's eight million reasons for us to stay together and fight for a new direction. It is a disgrace that in the wealthiest nation on earth, eight million children go without health insurance.
Normally, a member of the Senate will first approach other senators and ask them to co-sponsor a bill before it is introduced -- instead, I am turning to you. Imagine the power of a bill co-sponsored by hundreds of thousands of Americans being presented on the floor of the United States Senate. You can make it happen. Sign our "Every Child Protected" pledge today and forward it to your family, friends, and neighbors:"

2. I signed, but isn't it a publicity stunt?
According to the constitution, all appropriations bills need to originate in the House. I also don't think rules allow for citizen sponsorship of bills. Please enlighten me if I'm wrong.

10. Very Effective - "no matter the outcome" somebody wins
I snipped this from a post at Daily Kos:

"This is a perfect piece of wedge legislation: everybody supports it, you look like a total slime if you vote against it, and the Republicans won't want to spend the money or give Kerry the credit."

"If the Republicans pass it, the kids all get health care. If the Republicans vote against it (or lose it in comittee), the attack ads write themselves."

"This is an excellent move by Kerry, and I hope to see a lot more like it. Are the Democrats paying attention?"

13. What makes you think
That Republicans will pay a price for not backing this? The people they serve don't care about this.

11. Citizen Sponsorship Debunks Bush's 'mandate' and deflates his 'capital'
Kerry is literally handing us the power. He is snatching the 'mandate' right out of Bush's dragging knuckles.

Do you think any elected official is going to go on the record saying, "the people of the United States don't have any right...only us powerful government types can do that". Oh, yes, they'd be technically correct, but the spin and the resultant fallout would tear them to pieces.

The loud sucking sound you hear is the rush of air as the Populist Mantle goes away from the Party of the Corporations back to the Party of the People.

12. I think you might be right! I too read a portion of the Cos-posted at a
DU link tonight, and the strategy is brilliant. LOL! "The loud sucking sound you hear is the rush of air as the Populist Mantle goes away from the Party of the Corporations back to the Party of the People." Tres funny.

14. My question is
whether congressional rules allow for a citizen sponsored bill, and whether the Senate can initiate appropriations bills. I'm sure the constitution prohibits the latter.

4. No way
I am not making any more pledges to John Kerry until he keeps his promise to me. COUNT the VOTES.
ELECTION REFORM ! That's what I want. I don't want to hear anything else. I have heard enough from Ohio to know that this is the important issue. Hell it is the only issue! Tell him to pass out that petition and I'll sign it.

The letter he sent out today promises to make sure all votes are counted, but he doesn't mention electoral reform.

6. Excerpt from Kerry's Letter Where He Mentions Election Reform
"I will fight for a national standard for federal elections that has both transparency and accountability in our voting system. It's unacceptable in the United States that people still don't have full confidence in the integrity of the voting process."

7. He also says:
"I will fight for a national standard for federal elections that has both transparency and accountability in our voting system. It's unacceptable in the United States that people still don't have full confidence in the integrity of the voting process.

I ask you to join me in this cause."

I'll join him in this cause. I don't care about child health care for poor children. All our children will be poor and with out health care if democrats can't ever win another federal election!

19. Funny Thing About Republicans And Children
They want to strip away all rights a woman may have to chose her destiny. They want to force all fetuses to term and all those to give birth. But that's where it stops. We are still having to take extraordinarily action just to insure children, those "born" babies have appropriate medical care. Sure wish someone would explain the repubs thinking on this as for the life of me I can't find the logic.
