letter from Kerry about vote

Dear ______________,
I want to thank you personally for what you did in the election -- you rewrote the book on grassroots politics, taking control of campaigns away from big donors. No campaign will ever be the same.

You moved voters, helped hold George Bush accountable, and countered the attacks from big news organizations such as Fox, Sinclair Broadcasting, and conservative talk radio.

And your efforts count now more than ever. Despite the words of
cooperation and moderate sounding promises, this administration is planning a right wing assault on values and ideals we hold most deeply. Healthy debate and diverse opinion are being eliminated from the State Department and CIA, and the cabinet is being remade to rubber stamp policies that will undermine Social Security, balloon the deficit, avoid real reforms in health
care and education, weaken homeland security, and walk away from critical allies around the world.

Regardless of the outcome of this election, once all the votes are counted -- and they will be counted -- we will continue to challenge this administration. This is not a time for Democrats to retreat and accommodate extremists on critical principles -- it is a time to stand firm. I will fight for a national standard for federal elections that has
both transparency and accountability in our voting system. It's
unacceptable in the United States that people still don't have full confidence in the integrity of the voting process. I ask you to join me in this cause.

And we must fight not only against George Bush's extreme policies -- we must also uphold our own values. This is why on the first day Congress is in session next year, I will introduce a bill to provide every child in America with health insurance. And, with your help, that legislation will be accompanied by the support of hundreds of thousands of Americans. There are more than eight million uninsured children in our nation. That's eight million reasons for us to stay together and fight for a new direction. It is a disgrace that in the wealthiest nation on earth, eight million children go without health insurance.

Normally, a member of the Senate will first approach other senators and ask them to co-sponsor a bill before it is introduced -- instead, I am turning to you. Imagine the power of a bill co-sponsored by hundreds of thousands of Americans being presented on the floor of the United States Senate. You can make it happen. Sign our "Every Child Protected" pledge today and forward it to your family, friends, and neighbors:

This is the beginning of a second term effort to hold the Bush
administration accountable and to stand up and fight for our
principles and our values. They want you to disappear; they are counting on that. I'm confident you will prove them wrong, and you will rewrite history again.

Here is what I want you to know. I understand the strength,
commitment, and passion that are at the core of what we built together -- and I am determined to make our collective energy and organization a force to be reckoned with in the weeks and months ahead. Let's roll up our sleeves and get back to work for our country.
Thank you,

John Kerry

7. Are you certain that it's authentic?
Just off the top, it doesn't really sound like John Kerry to me. I hope that it's him, I'm just not convinced.

9. It's authentic
I received it as an E-mail and it included a video of Kerry saying what was in the E-mail. If you go to the link for the pledge you can watch the video

10. Thank you, I just watched it.
I wish that Kerry had sounded more like that during the campaign.

Of course I will support him in anything he does in the Senate that tries to further a progressive agenda. What I will never do is support him in a second run for the presidency.

Isn't it a little late for him to be getting on board with this?

6. Gee
Would you be so kind as to explain why this shouldn't piss me off? The Democrats had 4 years to try to fix this. They had to be well aware of the potential for fraud. I didn't see much effort on their part, but now they're gonna work on fixing it. When we've allowed the Republicans to gain this much power it may be too late now.

If you see that a crime is going to be commited you don't wait till after it happens, you try to prevent it.

5. Y'know. While Kerry was campaigning, other high-profile Dems should have
made this their cause long BEFORE Nov. 2. Way too many still haven't heard of BBV and the extent of its deceit. If it's not a mainstream media issue with broadcast media legs, it's less likely to be seen.

Kerry couldn't fight every battle for the whole party while trying to fight Bush and Rove's dastardly campaign, stay up on current events, craft policy and prepare for debates all the while campaigning all over the country.

8. I agree
that Kerry couldn't fight every battle and I'm really pissed at the entire DNC.
But Kerry wasn't running for office from 1/20/01 so he shares some responsibility for allowing this to happen.

12. The major chunk of BBV didn't come out till the primary was in full swing.
After the primaries we needed a group of Dems to pursue BBV actively.

Of course, with our crappy proBush media it is still not likely they would have succeeded in getting the public's attention. BUT...I would think they could have had insisted on public inspections of ALL voting machines in the month before the election.

13. Well, what this country needs now is a mass exorcism of all evil...
...starting at the top with George W Bush and moving right down the chain of demons throughout the neo-conservatives, the fundies and of course the Republican party. Repeat after me: "Satin, leave these bodies now! The power of Christ compels you; the power of Christ compels you; the power of Christ compels you. Leave now!"

17. Didn't know this
but it doesn't surprise me a bit.

I don't see any chance of legitimate elections happening for the forseeable future. They've gotten away with it three times in the past 4 years and they will continue to do so until we figure out some way to stop them. .

Just being realistic.

19. I think almost everyone who voted for Kerry feels that way, except those
who were pissed at Kerry but voted for him anyway.
