Calling MoveOn: Ads Needed to Support Investigation & Recount
I want to see MoveOn start running ads to make sure all our votes are counted. I don't know any other group in as good of a position to make this happen. Do you agree? Will you join with me? Do you have decent e-mail addresses for them (I mean all I get from them are reply-to type list addresses which are worthless)? Also why don't we see if we can get DU to give a forum just for MoveOn since they don't even have a blog or BB on their site. The one feedback system they have is interesting but deeply technically flawed. Okay, so who's with me on this?

7. my letter to moveon.org
I read all emails your organization sent out regarding the Democratic Candidate Sen John Kerry. I support Senator Kerry and believe he IS the next President. I went door to door and phoned people to get the vote out.

MoveOn.org can get some ads together that are as important as the ones that were produced for Senator Kerry. I want to see MoveOn start running ads to make sure all our votes are counted.

PLEASE GET INVOLVED IN THE MAKE ALL THE VOTES COUNT PROJECTS IN Florida, Ohio, Nevada and other states. PLEASE help.

Concerned Voter,

21. I found a real e-mail address and phone number, though I must say
they really don't make it easy. I only have a couple of initial contact e-mails. Obviously there is info@moveon.org. Also FreeRepublic.com had whois info including eli.pariser@moveon.org, though I haven't tried that yet. I left a message at 510-524-6100 but have gotten no response yet.

I'm thinking that maybe it'd be good to ask for a DU Group that focuses on coalescing progressive grass roots groups like MoveOn for media action. I might call it MoveNow. I'm kicking the thought around in my head (and now have "written aloud" here). :-)

3. You know
It is not a bad idea. However prior and during the election I was a huge supporter, but after their Sunday night where do we go from here meeting I'm not as impressed. Of course maybe the excitement of founding a chapter of Code Pink and starting the Demand Project has drawn away from the lure of MoveOn.

I think if you get a bunch of people together standing in front of the election board's office and constantly writing letters to reps/senators and the secretary of your state you might get more results. Also writing media outlets and such too.

6. Sunday's MoveOn meeting
I've been on the e-mail list for MoveOn for a long time, and I went to the UnCovered showing but Sunday's get together was the first thing I'd been to besides that. I found it really encouraging and therapeutic. As a matter of fact, I'm not sure I would have found my way here if I had not been boosted by that get together. I think MoveOn has really good things going for it, and if they can add a few things they'll be fantastic. I think that they seriously need some more organizing communication tools like blogs and bulletin boards to get feedback and empower group discussion and action and that currently they are too centralized. But if they can add these things going I think they have huge promise. Why were you not impressed? I'd be interested in your viewpoint.

14. Yes, that action forum is interesting but too dynamic to be useful.
That was the tool that I refered to as being interesting but technically flawed. I like that it allows you to rate issues, but since it constantly rearranges the order of the issues how can anyone really track anything? Also you can only move foward or back by 5. Its like having a tiny little window on the huge wide world. And is it really followed by any staffers? It doesn't really foster discussion. You can't get a feeling you are reaching anyone. So I think it shows promise but the way it works currently makes it a time waster.

11. My letter to MoveOn...
Prove My Vote Counts, Now

During the Thanksgiving holiday and the weeks after, I request you ask yourself and everyone MoveOn can reach, the following three questions:

1 Did you vote?

2 Do you remember for whom you voted?

3 Do you know IF and HOW your vote was counted?

Fact is, for most of us the answer to #3 is, no and no.

That fact is what threatens our franchise. The responsibility for that franchise is each of ours.

The fact is that because the answer to # 3 is 'no and no' we have nothing to certify.

Add that to the 57000+ complaints already filed with Congress and we have not had a valid election. And, consider the implications of the Volusia FL lawsuit: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2004/11/24/115048/86

By asking those three questions and offering the simple message "Prove My Vote Counts, Now" we might be able to convince our fellow citizens that it is time to repair the fundamental mechanism by which our franchise legitimately operates.

Now is not the time to pass, now is not the time to propose a 'study' in the future. Now is the time to have the courage to ask the questions and organize the answers into a focused effort by you, and MoveOn, to save our Democracy and, through the process, unite our Nation.

Thank you,
Bob

13. I Agree
Move On has some very good things going for it: 1) Good technology --they prove their mastery of Internet technologies, 2) they promote face-to-face get togethers that helps with keeping the enthusiasm going and promotes exchange of ideas, 3) they run TV ads!! that conform to my efficacy standard (simple, clear, graphic and visceral).

I agree that our current need is more mainstream media attention for this issue (prosecuting election fraud and going forward with a full rebuild of our voting systems and processes). If America was half as angry as the Ukraine over our election fraud and voting system flaws, Peter Jennings would not be characterizing this as a wacky left wing issue.

Happy Thanksgiving Guys!!!

15. The problem is that MoveOn was silent for over a year about BBV
Despite the fact that it was one of the Number one topics in it's crazy little forum! They did nothing to promote Congressmen Holt's bill that would have required Paper Audit trails! Therefore the fix to the BBV problem IS STILL STUCK IN COMMITTEE! MoveOn could have done something last year but chose to ignore it and lo and behold here we are today!

17. Great idea!
I agree that MoveOn has a lot going for it and I like your suggestions very much. By the way, despite their apparent reluctance to take up issues like bbv it seems that the members are not going to let this continue - feedback from the Sunday house parties identified electoral reform as the #1 issue as I recall, an issue which wasn't even on the MoveOn list of suggested issues that I saw. :donut:

I have to say I thought it was a very curious thing that electoral reform, and the whole votergate 2004 thing was not even on the ballot. Do you think they are just unaware or not wanting to get involved or something else? Do you have a theory?

22. I have to believe they were aware
It's my guess that their emphasis is on building up a movement according to a particular set of values and ideals that can change the political landscape over time. They might well see the Votergate business as a distraction from this. But can't they devote some energy to both - i.e. work on achieving longer-term goals (which I broadly agree with) and yet also participate in a major shorter-term project that truly demands attention? I hope so!:hi:

Election Fraud

(Today's story with just a bit of modification) George Bush Named Winner The Democratic candidate issues a call for a national strike after an fraudulent election gives the nod to a pro-war candidate for president. By David Holley Los Angeles Times Staff Writer

November 25, 2004

Washington D.C., United States — Democratic candidate John Kerry called Wednesday for a nationwide strike to close down schools, factories and transportation after authorities declared President George Bush the winner of United States' bitterly contested presidential election.

U.S. officials, citing allegations of fraud, swiftly rejected the legitimacy of the result, called for a review of the vote and warned of possible penalties. "If the American government does not act immediately and responsibly," Secretary of State Colin L. Powell said in Washington, "there will be consequences for our world relationships, for United States’ hopes for world integration and for individuals responsible for perpetrating fraud."

As tension over the election continued to rise, Kerry cautioned that the nation was at risk for civil war.

A massive crowd of Kerry supporters gathered in and around Washington D.C. for a third day. Addressing the throng, Kerry condemned the decision to name Bush the winner and declared, "With this decision, they wanted to bring us to our

39. Recounting isn't enough. We need a new election--
--without any voting machines, especially none owned by GOP hacks!

The touch-screen machines don't have paper trails and can't be recounted, so the fraud stands unless we toss out all the results and start over.

From MoveOn: " Thanks for putting WA recount over the top!"
Dear MoveOn member,

We're excited to tell you that your contribution yesterday not only helped us hit our goal of at least $250,000 to contribute to the Washington State recount but put the Gregoire campaign over the top. They announced today that they have successfully raised the minimum $750,000 that they need to proceed and they have called for the hand recount to begin. Christine Gregoire called personally and asked us to express her gratitude to you and other MoveOn members for helping ensure that all the ballots will be counted fairly.

Our efforts won't stop here: in Washington we are also recruiting MoveOn members to volunteer as recount observers, to watch that each ballot is counted fairly. A few thousand other volunteers have signed up for recounts in OH and NM. And additional funds raised above the $250,000 for the Gregoire campaign will go to support recounts and investigations in other states--overall we raised more than $400,000 including contributions from every state plus DC, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.

Fair and open elections are crucial prerequisites for a healthy country. Thank you again for your contribution and your help in safeguarding our democracy.

Sincerely,

--Adam Ruben

45. Virtual action on MoveOn site today, 12/4, at 9 am Pacific Time
People:

Read below for info on a virtual action today at 9 am to get Move On to do the right thing. Tell others. In a hurry? Just read steps 1 through 5.

This has been organized by the Voting Integrity Project (http://usvip.org/). Join. Together we can make MoveOn's "Great Goals..." idea becomes MoveOn's "Great Actions..."

Dear Friends,

Do you have any "reasonable doubt" about the integrity of the 2004 election? Do you feel that irregularities, suppression or manipulation may have affected the outcome?

YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

The US General Accountability Office is now investigating more than 57,000 irregularities, and there are re-counts underway in Ohio and New Hampshire. Two lawsuits have been filed in Florida.

On Saturday morning, a group of concerned citizens, organized under the banner USVIP (Voting Integrity Project) will be posting a "great idea" on the MoveOn Action Forum. Under the heading Count Every Vote - Act Now!, we will urge MoveOn to mobilize their membership (us!) to demand an immediate independent investigation of the 2004 U.S. Presidential election; including the recounts in Ohio and New Hampshire.

For this action to be successful, it must be read by the greatest number of MoveOn members possible. For that to happen, we need your help in keeping it near the front of the line of "great ideas." To do that, we want you to select "agree" and give it a 5-star rating and urge your friends and associates to do the same.

Timing is critical. New ideas are posted regularly and each goes briefly to the top of the "recent comments" list. The number of votes determines which stay near the top of the pile and are more likely to be read. That's why we need everyone to vote for this action soon after we post it. We will post at a scheduled time and ask that you take action as soon after that as you can. The longer you wait, the further back a new "great idea" can fall in the queue, requiring you to take more time to look for it.

We plan to post Count Every Vote - Act Now! on Saturday, December 4th at 9:00AM PST (12:00 EST). If you are not already familiar with the MoveOn Action Forum, look at it today so you understand the process. Print or save these 5 easy steps for your convenience on Saturday.

Step 1: Go online to: www.MoveOn.org.

Step 2: Scroll down to the bottom of the home page to "Other Ways to Help." Go to the 3rd item listed there, called "Speak Out," and click on "great goals for our nation."

Step 3: Scroll down past the first 5 items listed under "Top Comments On" to the 2nd section of comments listed under "Recent Comments On." In the "Recent Comments" section look for: "Count Every Vote - Act Now!" (You may need to select for the "next 5" comments in order to find us, i.e., Count Every Vote - Act Now!

Step 4: Vote to agree with the action item and give it an importance rating of 5 stars.

Step 5: After voting, be sure to scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the "Submit My Ratings" button.

On Friday, we will send an action reminder notice to everyone who has signed up on http://usvip.org/ (U.S. Voting Integrity Project). We appreciate you forwarding the reminder message to your email lists. Ask them to register directly at http://usvip.org/ (Voting Integrity Project.) The link is in the upper right-hand corner and
reads: "Join Us - Help Defend Democracy!" While you're there, we hope you will bookmark USVIP.org

Thank you for taking this action to protect democracy! Your involvement will make a difference. Your vote counts and now we need to make certain our votes are counted!

Sincerely,

U.S. Voting Integrity Project
