What the hells the point???
I thought Kerry would be dominating in the provisional ballots considering there hand counted and not scanned through e-voting.. These numbers are very discouraging and leads me to believe that the United States is the dumbest country on the face of the planet.. that is the only reason Kerry lost... I think there is lots of evidence to back up fraud but when my state of Illinois scored 45 percent for Bush ( 5 percent increase) I just don't know anymore... Is there any PLAUSIBLE HOPE ANYMORE???

Unfortunately, in Nature, the punishment for stupidity is death.
Somehow we're stupid too unless we can figure out how to change the odds to favor sanity.

1. Good question..and I'm feeling
more than depressed myself..came on to DU to find some good news(we all could use) but nothing but more of the same.

I suppose if we're patient ..then when the pendulum gets all the way Blow The Abyss it will swing back!

3. Keep the faith, Reason = All of us who believe in Justice American Style

The more of us who search for Justice, who reach for it, the more likely we are to receive it, you give up and then without a couragous fight they win. There are people in other countries dying, keep the faith for them if you must, believe you deserve to be free as I do, and you will keep the faith because you must as I must, I will never stop believing because then I am dead inside.

4. Everyone I talk too about voter fraud tells me to give it up
even the ones that voted for Kerry! That's pretty discouraging.

5. Because it's your right...
Even if Kerry doesn't win, every vote deserves to be counted. In addition the provisional numbers are at about 50% of total, and the bigger areas haven't come in yet, however the change in margin will probably end up @ 10-15k. Anyone thinking he could get 80%+ was really grabbing...

The point is we have the right to defend our freedoms, and fight for what we believe is right. Even if nothing is done, your voice can still deserves to be heard. I believe with baby steps we can make a difference...

12. Depressive Newbies
Maybe they're coming here *because* they're depressed and hoping to find fellowship and community and good news. Then when a lot of them (and that would include me, I guess, since I've only been "here" a short time) get here, they're accused of being "Freepers" or "depressives" or wet blankets or something. That's gotta be pretty depressing, too.

There's a lot of sadness now.

I know... what we need is a really good rally/protest! Depressive Newbies, look around on DU for rallies in your areas. Getting out in the sun (or snow or rain, as the case may be) with other folks of like mind and yelling and waving signs might do us all some good. There's one near me on my birthday, and it will be the perfect gift!

7. Let's face it
The only thing we have to look forward to is saying 'I told you so'. It's not much of a consolation, but I will certainly take advantage of it when things get really bad.

9. Not close races in Illinois
Obama and Kerry were winning big anyways, I am sure it kept turnout down.

10. Is this *another* republican meme?
A friend of mine and I have noticed that we've been hearing a number of people, unrelated to one another, say "I'm burned out on politics" or they're "feeling a little burned out on politics right now". I always get kinda suspicious when I hear a lot of people repeating some particular phrase. Where do they get it?

How DO they do it?

11. Who wins this election doesn't change the fact that...
...this is a failed democracy that we're living in. That's the truth and we need to face it. Our democracy has failed because our educational system has failed. For a democracy to work, you need an informed electorate. And real information comes not from television, but from reading and critical analyzing sources other than the bible...

That being said, the leader of a democracy (even a failed one) does have great influence. But even then, turning this country into a thriving democracy once again would be one hell of an uphill battle and is likely impossible. After all, it's hard to convince people that they need to educate themselves when they're being told that ignorance is good; either by the media ("just sit back and let us do all the work") or organized religion ("the bible has everything you need to know"). We're losing the battle on both sides...
