Poll question: If you were a new voter, would you trust the Democrats again?
Imagine you are a new voter and you have waiting in line ten hours to vote. Though Kerry won, he conceded. The DNC is doing nothing to prove he won. In fact, the DNC seems to have conceded and jumped behind Bush, too. There is talk that the next Democratic nominee might be closer to Bush in ideology. Would you trust the Democratic Party again? Would it be worth your time and energy to work for a Democratic victory that they could concede again?

1. I'm An Old Voter And I Don't Trust The Democratic Party
Basically, I have come to the point were I don't trust any parties that align themselves with corporations, corporate interests, and religious fanatics of any stripe.

12. Hi, and welcome to DU.
:hi:

But, seriously, the only people who ought to be loving the DNC right now are Republicans (and I'm not making an accusation with that statement, just asking for you to re-think it or re-state what you meant).

4. Actually, I'm having a hard time trusting it now
and I'm far from a new voter.

The first campaign I ever worked on was Bobby Kennedy's Senate race.

He would never have conceded.

Oh, and FUCK Sirhan Sirhan, by the way.

6. there is a presumption
that I trusted them in the first place. They are the lesser evil. This is why you should be very nervous when you here the word "bi-partisan" being bandied about; it's a clear indication that a larger-than-normal deception is about to take place.

8. As in bipartisan commission on 9-11, turns out to be a well oiled...
...group of puppets mouthing the party lines, playing a scrpied role, avoiding pin-pointing responsibility for the massives failures and issuing an anemic report which was further expunged of all references to the part the Saudi leaders played and now the recommendations by the commission are being swept under the carpet and will be forgotten when the new congress convenes in January, 2005. The two party system in this country is morally bankrupt, but they both have great wealth much of which came from the little people.

7. I just wish the Dems....
...would spend more time and effort trying to figure out what the hell they stand for than trying to figure out how to get people how to vote for them...

Here's a novel idea: Have a clear message and direction and people will follow you...

9. I've always voted Democrat and our Democratic Leader had damn
well better do something about this election fraud. I can't believe after the stolen 2000 election that this voting sh-t wasn't fixed properly so that every vote was counted(not stolen or destroyed so they can't be counted) and every legal voter could vote(and not have to stand in lines for hour after hour after hour) My God we can't even get proof that we voted and who we voted for. This makes me very very very angry!

16. Oh believe me, the eyes and ears are open....
But I'm not seeing or hearing much that's very encouraging...

Apparently, I'm not the only one...

http://xian.dailykos.com/story/2004/11/6/214610/054

Okay then, you tell me the ONE unifying principle that unites and guides the Democratic party...

The Republicans seem pretty clear on this. If you look at the *corrected* CNN exit polls http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2004/pages/results/states/US/P/00/epolls.0.html it's Moral Values, Terrorism (read: holy war) and Taxes. Seems pretty clear.

But if you look at the Dems its Economy no wait, Education...errr, Health Care, and NOT BUSH!!

The Dems have a problem here if they want to be successful on the national level in the future. Most of their issues are pocketbook issues and people will vote their conscious (religion) over their wallets...

15. Hi Kristi1696.
Lots and lots of new folks! Welcome to DU. :hi:

I have to agree with the above poster. The only people who don't know where the Democrats stand are those who are too lazy to find out. We couldn't help it if the R's effectively distracted the people and the media played right along. Kerry had clear policy proposals. Instead, the media chose to ignore that and repeated the "flip-flop" mantra, as they were told to by their Republican masters.

Not our fault. Fault of the American people. We don't get the government we deserve. We get the government that the media and the corporations chose for us. But, again, that's not the fault of the Democratic party.

17. Hi Laelth, thanks for the welcome...
I'm not saying that people don't know where the Dems stand on economic issues, health care issues, etc. I'm saying that the Dems have no clear stance on the issue du jour...Moral Values. The Dems need to rephrase their stances on the above issues as stemming from their own moral values...

Hope that makes sense....

18. That does make sense, thanks.
But I still don't buy it. Kerry said he thought marriage was "between a man and a woman" but he opposed forcing that personal belief on the country through a Constitutional amendment. I'm not sure what other "moral values" you're referring to.

Do you think the American people are unaware of the Democratic values listed below?

Personally, I think the American people know quite well where we stand in terms of both values and issues. And I think that a majority of the American people agree with us too.

11. It's time to shout - take back our country starting with the Democratic
Party. Typical Dem politicos have had a lot of time to get the right formula. They had something in 2000 and 2004, but it probably didn't become 60% or better which may have to be the story in 60 % of the states to counter theft by Republicans.

I'm for Progressives, but you can call me and Independent who is a Wellstone Democrat.

I want to grab onto the Democratic Party and pull them away from that center and right crap. It's been a grand awakening for me to find out how the desire to save my country has made me want scream at Democrats.

The center and right is not where the great achievements of our country has come from. We must fight cultist and evangelical missionaries who are hell bent on imposing their religions. We must educate ourselves about the real agenda for this country - a few have designed a militaristic combined with slavery and brainwashing.

27. But you have got to be careful
How far to the left you go or you will end up meeting the far right. But you are right the Democratic Party is getting far too conservative. When you sit down and actully look at the voting records of the many in high positions in the party they are lloking a lot like they did back in 1900 when the Republicans were the progressive party and less the party that was reshaped by FDR.

Look for the Greens to step it up or for another party to arise.

Assuming of course that we save democracy by 2008.

22. I wash my hands of the Democratic Party
--and I've been voting Democrat since 1964.
They forced John Kerry on us and now they haven't even questioned Bush's "victory" despite evidence of massive irregularities and fraud uncovered by We The People. In fact, even before the "election" the Democratic Party was blatantly silent about the threat of electronic, paperless voting.
I will either vote 3rd party from now on or not vote at all. The idea that "they're all the same anyway, why bother" has never seemed truer.

32. I don't see any other conclusion
A loser is a loser if you know nothing else. That same conclusion tears at me regarding the "wrong stuff" we have "up there" particularly the behind the scenes nannies who defend their professional skills while the house burns down around them. And then go to work on GOP campaigns sharing the pitiful info they have on the lagging Dems.

We don't hire thugs and dirtbags. We should at least find decent Intel people and shrewd savvy people not too busy plugging into focus groups, seminars and astrological usage of computer data and bean counting. ALL the sociological models and trends matter little if the vote simply is rigged! All the issue parsing is in vain if the media buries you before the first word leaves your mouth!

The ordinary person can sense when there is no help or hope available in a certain party. Their sympathies for good intentions and the issues, but sayanara.

It takes a grittier numbness to this disappointment to work harder for the "next time".
