Help! Did anyone tape election night?
If you did, popular vote totals (total # of votes for Bush, total # of votes for Kerry, perhaps with percentages) should have been regularly updated (perhaps at the bottom of the screen). I need those numbers and their updates to check for vote irregularities!

5. Great!
Actually, not just great! but GREAT! What I need are those little numbers down at the bottom of the screen, the ones that look like Bush 3,000,000 54.5%, Kerry 2,500,000 45.5%. If you have the times the updates were given that's terrific but they're not absolutely necessary, it's the numbers that are important. Any numbers that were shown between the time they started to come out (I believe around 6:30 pm) and when they were tailing off in the early hours of the morning of November 3 would be really useful. Thank you, thank you, thank you! :-) :-) :-)

7. Awesome!
Let me know how can I get the numbers. You could fast forward the tapes and collect numbers every half-hour or so (I think that would be enough to start with) or if you can get me the tapes I could do it myself. This is terrific! :-) :tinfoilhat:

8. very large
right now it is at 24G of video. I'm in the process of transfering it to a computer. This will take a little time. I'm looking it into what will be the quickest way to get the data you want.

So do you think the broadcast data differed from the data from thier web sites?

I seem to remember tv kept up with the web site. Sometimes delayed a bit and others ahead abit.

10. No, I don't think the broadcast data differed from the web sites
I need the broadcast data because all the web sites have been updated to show final numbers. I need the updates over election night to test my suspicion that early data favored Bush in a manner that not only is inconsistent with all expectations of regional voter preferences but also is inconsistent with voting in previous elections. The earliest number I found (6:38 pm) showed Bush up by 14%, at 8:50 pm the number someone else reported was 11.4%, at 9:00 pm 10.6%, and at 9:06 pm 9.4%. These were all early numbers (at 9:06 pm only 14.4% of the total vote was in) but early numbers should either have favored or at least been neutral for Kerry, because they should reflect east coast voter preferences. So, I need more numbers, especially later numbers, to test this out more fully. With the numbers I can track how things changed over the night and perhaps get an estimate of how many votes are involved in this - if it's true - astonishing early Bush advantage. If trends remained the same, the numbers of votes involved could be massive. I would not be the least bit surprised to find early "frontloading" of Bush votes to provide an electoral cushion but we'll look at the numbers and see what they reveal. You didn't happen to tape the 2000 election too, did you?!! (That would be even more than awesome!) :tinfoilhat: :-)

I have a set that only show the ticker at the bottom. So each 1 hour segment is about 4m. Windows media player should play it. I'm working on getting them available. As soon as you can pm I will give you a place where they can be downloaded.

Hopefully in a couple hours I can post a link to all of them.

20. ok
First make sure windows media player and directx are updated. Then make sure you have the xvid codec installed.
http://www.xvidmovies.com/codec/

Please be nice and only download these if you are wanting to help seaclyr out. I will up load the full video if someone will provide a place to host it.

This is only the election result data at the bottom of the screen! No audio and very compressed. Only useful for creating a time line of when the results were released.

http://24.28.73.35/results/

Each 1 hour segment is about 5meg. I probably will only leave access to this up for a short time.

24. looking in to it.
If people think it is helpful I will spend the time doing it.

It raises more questions though. Like should I re-encode it at a higher quality? How big is to big? Do you want the audio? and so on. So please post your suggestions.

I have the msnbc ticker almost ready. Should I make that available also?

Let me know.

27. my opininion is hold off on the msnbc ticker
unless a compelling reason comes up for looking at it. All the info given by cnn and msnbc should have come from the same source, Associated Press, so there shouldn't be a marked difference.

28. so far, so good
Am collecting a representative sample of data (slowly, the ISP keeps shutting down). Have to fill in some gaps but data so far confirm 14% early Bush lead in popular vote (guess that eliminates the theory exit polls were off because Bush supporters voted late), dropping off in a remarkably linear fashion as the total popular vote increases. Looks like the Bush lead gets down to around 3% at about 40% of the total vote then is more or less maintained at this level for the rest of the night. Looks strange to me but have to compare with 2000.

29. still going slowly, but
there's enough info to show
1. a remarkable early Bush advantage in the popular vote, new estimate is 15% in the first reported numbers
2. a remarkably linear dropoff as total vote increases, enough to make one wonder about mathematical massage of the numbers and whether Bush votes were systematically introduced over time
3. if I read the numbers correctly, Bush had his 3 million vote advantage by the time about 40% of the total vote was in, at which time the initial linear dropoff stops and an approx 3% advantage is maintained for the rest of the evening.
4. This would be a lot easier to visualize with a graph - I'll get a graph together, hopefully with a 2000 comparison if I can get those numbers quickly - and find a way (I might need help) to link to an image.
