What's Up With Mitofsky?
I've read several threads recently which featured very testy responses from DU inquiries to exit pollmeister Warren Mitofsky.

Such as:

"...the leaked numbers were not our best estimates as of the time they were leaked. The leakers had no idea what they were passing along and the bloggers had no idea what they were getting. EVERYONE DID NOT MISUNDERSTAND OUR NUMBERS. The proof of what I am saying is that neither Edison/Mitofsky nor any of the members made any mistakes in projecting winners AFTER the polls closed based on these same exit polls. Only the morons who leaked the erroneous numbers and the bloggers were misled."

and:

"There were no exit polls weighted by gender, party ID, age or race. That is not part of the exit poll weighting. Second, the exit polls on the web were not released by us. They were leaked by people I don't know, the numbers they leaked were wrong, and I have no responsibility for bad information I did not put out. All the numbers I released were after the polls closed. All the projections were correct. If you think that is shit you can eat it, for all I care."

and:

"There is nothing being hidden by us. We are preparing a report to the people we work for. Hopefully it will be finished shortly and it will be made public. I am not beholden to any political party. Nor do I believe the exit polls will quiet your fears about the system, whether or not we release the raw data. They are not useful for that purpose."

===============================================================

This man appears to be scrambling to deflect attention from his exit polls. What kind of pressure is he under? Is the discrepancy between his report and the tabulations creating huge problems for the media and Bushco? Does this explain, at least in part, why the virtual media blackout continues? Are in fact the exit polls one of the smoking guns and are the wagons being circled? What effect will the unfolding Ukrainian election controversy play in all this?

By the way, I was an exit pollster for Mitofsky and can't say enough good things about the seamlessness in their organization leading up to and during election day. For Mitofsky to be so wacked out by reasonable inquiries makes me think that there are not enough fingers to plug the holes in the 2004 election fraud dike.

What do you all think?

1. "Embattled Mitofsky loses temper, responds with "eat shit"
I just sent an email to Keith Olbermann with that header as the subject, and gave him the info in this killer post:

Believe me, it's worth reading! It's like Mitofsky is a kitten in an ever expanding tangled ball of yarn and he (or a staff member) is becoming increasingly frustrated.

2. What does he mean with LEAKED exit polls?
So the exit polls CNN has put out at 8 p.m. EST where Kerry was up 52 : 48 were also leaked?
If I'm not mistaken, CNN was a "customer" of Mitofsky and received the 8 p.m. exit polls from them , right?

5. that's a fact
and he basically owns up to it. But he continues to pound away at "leakers" and early numbers, as if we bloggers broke into their computers and stole them away.

Which is preposterous.

Further, although some have written that the re-weighting of exit polls with tabulated voting data is an accepted technique, that flies in the face of logic. Actual tabulated data is data from a separate source and has no place in the sampling process.

When I exit polled I went out of my way to be accurate. I was supposed to interview every 7th voter. If I missed someone, I had to wait for the next 7th voter. I had to record the gender, race and age range of everyone I missed or was rejected by.

It just makes no sense to go backwards and adjust the projections with actuals. It's a mixed metaphor.

Meanwhile, I think one of the smoking guns is right here, with Warren Mitofsky.

3. I smell a rat
He seems to contadict himself saying "the exit polls on the web were not released by us". Then what the hell was on cnn.com including charts and graphs untill PAST MIDNIGHT?!
Was that the work of some nefarious hacker that no one discovered for hours and hours? I doubt it?

4. I agree about the fingers plugging the holes...
I also read a thread that said Mitofsky was going to help the Ukraine with their exit polls. And, another thing, I read that his exit polls were created to protect against a 2000 all over again. That millions of dollars and lots of planning went into his 2004 exit polls that were apparently designed to be better than ever. Interesting. He HAS been VERY TESTY! It reminds me of that "how dare you ask me a question" attitude we get from this administration. I have been wondering what his reply would be to Zogby's challenge of transparency. I mean would he comply. I don't think he has so far, right? I hope he is under intense pressure and I hope he stays that way. He acts like there is something to hide. The Ukraine news has been hard to swallow since our own media and obviously the people in power are not speaking to our own discrepancies. I read on another thread that the Ukraine exit polls were 85% off. In some places here, like Wyoming, ours were 106% off. (I think I got that right.)

7. Any Raw data been released?
Has anyone seen the raw data on WHO was exit polled?

I saw a few news stories saying that women were oversampled, but nothing else....

It would be possiable to skew results of an exit poll by polling only certain voters vs a true random sample....and could be done to favor either side....

For example, if I polled more young women voters, and they tend to vote Democratic, I would skew the results to the Democratic side

But if I polled mostly older white men(30-50), I would then skew the results to the Republican side....the data CAN be altered

Thats why the proof is in the raw data....thanks for any links you can post
