Anyone else have a song that's helping them deal with this mess?
This about sums it up for me. My own personal therapy. lol
Lyrics
http://www.letssingit.com/

One
by Creed

Album : My Own Prison

Affirmative may be justified
Take from one give to another
The goal is to be unified
Take my hand,be my brother
The payment silenced the masses
Sanctified by oppression
Unity took a backseat
Sliding further into regression

One,oh one
The only way is one
One,oh one
The only way is one

I feel angry I feel helpless
Want to change the world, ya
I feel violent I feel alone
Don't try to change my mind, no

Society blind by color
Why hold down one to raise another
Discrimination now on both sides
Seeds of hate blossom further
The world is heading for mutiny
When all we want is unity
We may rise and fall, but in the end
We'll meet our fate together

One,oh one
The only way is one
One,oh one
The only way is one

I feel angry I feel helpless
Want to change the world, ya
I feel violent I feel alone
Don't try to change my mind,no

I feel angry I feel helpless
Want to change the world, ya
I feel violent I feel alone
Don't try to change my mind,no

(Instrumental)

Ohhhhhhhhh
Oh ya
Ohhhhhhhhh
Oh ya

I feel angry I feel helpless
Want to change the world, ya
I feel violent I feel alone
Don't try to change my mind,no

I feel angry I feel helpless
Want to change the world, ya
I feel violent I feel alone
Don't try to change my mind,no

3. these are mine, i posted them in some other threads too
It's Butterflies and Hurricanes by Muse. I'm not sure what the writer's intentions were, but it feels right for me, at this time.

change,
everything you are
and everything you were
your number has been called
fights, battles have begun
revenge will surely come
your hard times are ahead

best,
you've got to be the best
you've got to change the world
and you use this chance to be heard
your time is now

change,
everything you are
and everything you were
your number has been called
fights and battles have begun
revenge will surely come
your hard times are ahead

best,
you've got to be the best
you've got to change the world
and use this chance to be heard
your time is now

don't,
let yourself down
don't let yourself go
your last chance has arrived

best,
you've got to be the best
you've got to change the world
and use this chance to be heard
your time is now

4. How about this one....
Mark Robinowitz
Vote Fraud in Ohio

Lost ballots and Diebold's counting
We're finally on our own
This winter I hear Bush laughing
Vote Fraud in Ohio

Gotta get real ballots
Paperless taking us down
Should have been done long ago
Keep blacks from voting and
TV won't make a sound
Kerry won, but he said no.

Vote Fraud in Ohio
Vote Fraud in Ohio
Vote Fraud in Florida

written in response to the stealing of the 2004 election through rigged voting machines, voter intimidation and stolen ballots, same tune as:

Crosby Stills Nash and Young
Four Dead In Ohio (see original lyrics below)

Tin soldiers and Nixon's comin'.
We're finally on our own.
This summer I hear the drummin'.
Four dead in Ohio.

Gotta get down to it.
Soldiers are gunning us down.
Should have been done long ago.
What if you knew her and
Found her dead on the ground?
How can you run when you know?

Four dead in Ohio
Four dead in Ohio
Four dead in Ohio

written in response to National Guard's murder of four students at Kent State University, May 1970, who were peacefully protesting the illegal bombing of Cambodia

they all help me deal with these days and a lot of days a long time ago. but that what make these interesting times.

John Fogerty - Deja Vu all over again

Did you hear 'em talkin' 'bout it on the radio
Did you try to read the writing on the wall
Did that voice inside you say I've heard it all before
It's like Deja Vu all over again

Day by day I hear the voices rising
Started with a whisper like it did before
Day by day we count the dead and dying
Ship the bodies home while the networks all keep score

Did you hear 'em talkin' 'bout it on the radio
Could your eyes believe the writing on the wall
Did that voice inside you say I've heard it all before
It's like Deja Vu all over again

One by one I see the old ghosts rising
Stumblin' 'cross Big Muddy
Where the light gets dim
Day after day another Momma's crying
She's lost her precious child
To a war that has no end

Did you hear 'em talkin' 'bout it on the radio
Did you stop to read the writing at The Wall
Did that voice inside you say
I've seen this all before
It's like Deja Vu all over again
It's like Deja Vu all over agai

8. I heard this one on the day before Thanksgiving while I was driving ...
...my UPS truck around town and I almost started crying right on the spot. I was literally fighting back the tears...

American Tune
Words & music by paul simon

Many’s the time I’ve been mistaken
And many times confused
Yes, and often felt forsaken
And certainly misused
Oh, but I’m alright, I’m alright
I’m just weary to my bones
Still, you don’t expect to be
Bright and bon vivant
So far a-way from home, so far away from home

I don’t know a soul who’s not been battered
I don’t have a friend who feels at ease
I don’t know a dream that’s not been shattered
Or driven to it’s knees
Oh, but it’s alright, it’s alright
For we lived so well so long
Still, when I think of the
Road we’re traveling on
I wonder what’s gone wrong
I can’t help it, I wonder what’s gone wrong

And I dreamed I was dying
I dreamed that my soul rose unexpectedly
And looking back down at me
Smiled reassuringly
And I dreamed I was flying
And high up above my eyes could clearly see
The statue of liberty
Sailing away to sea
And I dreamed I was flying

We come on the ship they call the mayflower
We come on the ship that sailed the moon
We come in the a-ge’s most uncertain hours
And sing an american tune
Oh, and it’s alright, it’s alright, it’s alright
You can’t be forever blessed
Still, tomorrow’s going to be another working day
And I’m trying to get some rest
That’s all I’m trying to get some rest

I don't know how they knew to make this song months ago, they must be psychic. They realy just get to the...heart of the matter.

I could be reading in to it a tad, but it does sound like they had the Ohio contest on their minds when they wrote this song:)

On the Turning Away
On the turning away
From the pale and downtrodden
And the words they say
Which we won't understand
"Don't accept that what's happening
Is just a case of others' suffering
Or you'll find that you're joining in
The turning away"

It's a sin that somehow
Light is changing to shadow
And casting it's shroud
Over all we have known
Unaware how the ranks have grown
Driven on by a heart of stone
We could find that we're all alone
In the dream of the proud

On the wings of the night
As the daytime is stirring
Where the speechless unite
In a silent accord
Using words you will find are strange
And mesmerised as they light the flame
Feel the new wind of change
On the wings of the night

No more turning away
From the weak and the weary
No more turning away
From the coldness inside
Just a world that we all must share
It's not enough just to stand and stare
Is it only a dream that there'll be
No more turning away?

17. Pink Floyd is awesome.
I love their album "Animals". The song "sheep".
Makes me think of all the freepers.
Some lyric's from the song:

What do you get for pretending the danger's not real.
Meek and obedient you follow the leader
Down well trodden corridors into the valley of steel.
What a surprise!
A look of terminal shock in your eyes.
Now things are really what they seem.
No, this is no bad dream.

12. buddy miller's version of With God On Our Side
Oh my name it is nothin'
My age it means less
The country I come from
Is called the Midwest
I's taught and brought up there
The laws to abide
And that land that I live in
Has God on its side.

Oh the history books tell it
They tell it so well
The cavalries charged
The Indians fell
The cavalries charged
The Indians died
Oh the country was young
With God on its side.

Oh the Spanish-American
War had its day
And the Civil War too
Was soon laid away
And the names of the heroes
I's made to memorize
With guns in their hands
And God on their side.

Oh the First World War, boys
It closed out its fate
The reason for fighting
I never got straight
But I learned to accept it
Accept it with pride
For you don't count the dead
When God's on your side.

When the Second World War
Came to an end
We forgave the Germans
And we were friends
Though they murdered six million
In the ovens they fried
The Germans now too
Have God on their side.

I've learned to hate Russians
All through my whole life
If another war starts
It's them we must fight
To hate them and fear them
To run and to hide
And accept it all bravely
With God on my side.

But now we got weapons
Of the chemical dust
If fire them we're forced to
Then fire them we must
One push of the button
And a shot the world wide
And you never ask questions
When God's on your side.

In a many dark hour
I've been thinkin' about this
That Jesus Christ
Was betrayed by a kiss
But I can't think for you
You'll have to decide
Whether Judas Iscariot
Had God on his side.

So now as I'm leavin'
I'm weary as Hell
The confusion I'm feelin'
Ain't no tongue can tell
The words fill my head
And fall to the floor
If God's on our side
He'll stop the next war.

13. American Idiot
(Green Day)

Don't want to be an American idiot.
Don't want a nation under the new media.
And can you hear the sound of hysteria?
The subliminal mindfuck America.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the idiot nation.
Everything isn't meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We're not the ones who're meant to follow.
For that's enough to argue.

Well maybe I'm the faggot America.
I'm not a part of a redneck agenda.
Now everybody do the propaganda.
And sing along in the age of paranoia.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the idiot nation.
Everything isn't meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We're not the ones who're meant to follow.
For that's enough to argue.

Don't want to be an American idiot.
One nation controlled by the media.
Information age of hysteria.
It's going out to idiot America.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the idiot nation.
Everything isn't meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We're not the ones who're meant to follow.
For that's enough to argue.

(even tho i don't agree with the "i don't care" part)

Born and raised by hypocrites
Hearts recycled but never saved
From the cradle to the grave
We are the kids of war and peace
From Anaheim to the middle east
We are the stories and disciples
Of the Jesus of suburbia
Land of make believe
And it don't believe in me
Land of make believe
And I don't believe
And I don't care!

21. "Last Resort" by The Eagles
The last two verses seem particularly fitting.

She came from Providence
The one in Rhode Island
Where the Old World values hang
Heavy in the air
She packed her hopes and dreams
Like a refugee
Just as her father came
Across the sea

She heard about a place
People were smilin'
They spoke about the red man's way
And how they loved the land
And they came from everywhere
To the Great Divide
Seeking a place to stand
Or a place to hide

Down in the crowded bars
Out for a good time
"Can't wait to tell you all
What it's like up there"
And they called it Paradise
I don't know why
Somebody laid the mountains low
While the town got high

Then the chilly wind blew down
Across the desert
Through the canyons of the coast
To the Malibu
Where the pretty people play
Hungry for power
To light their neon way
And give 'em things to do

Some rich men came and raped the land
Nobody caught 'em
Put up a bunch of ugly boxes
And Jesus, people bought 'em
And they called it Paradise
The place to be
They watched the hazy sun
Sinkin' in the sea

You can leave it all behind
And sail to Lahaina
Just like the missionaries did
So many years ago
They even brought a neon sign
"Jesus is coming"
Brought the white man's burden down
Brought the white man's reign

Who will provide the grand design?
What is yours and what is mine?
'Cause there is no more new frontier
We have got to make it here
We satisfy our endless needs
And justify our bloody deeds
In the name of destiny
And in the name of God

And you can see them there
On Sunday morning
Stand up and sing about
What it's like up there
They call it Paradise
I don't know why
You call someplace Paradise
Kiss it good-bye

22. Blame Sally-If you tell a lie. Listen to it at the link.
http://www.blamesally.com/video.html

If you tell a lie again and again
It does not become the truth in the end
If your voice is loud and your lies are well heard
Still it does not mean transformation has occurred

Water isn't wine
Brass isn't gold
One day you'll account for all the lies that you told

If you take the forest, if you steal it tree by tree
If you blacken the river if you desecrate the sea
You can wave your arms, you can shout out from on high
But the truth is still the truth and a lie is still a lie

Water isn't wine
Brass isn't gold
One day you'll account for all the priceless things you sold

You can speak of God while you lead your Holy War
As if your hands weren’t stained by the oil you adore
More innocents will die and more soldiers will fall
You name your church for God but it was greed that built those walls

Water isn’t wine
Brass isn’t gold
One day you’ll account for all the lives that you stole

Two faced yes fool
Pin striped suit ghoul

You can make a promise and some people might believe
That you are not beholden to the power, to the greed
But if they should fall ill, or their schools should fall down
Should they fall on hard times well I doubt you'll be around

Water isn't wine, brass isn't gold
And it's wrong that we should pay for that crown that you stole
Water isn't wine, brass isn't gold
One day you'll account for all the lies that you told

25. Lives In The Balance by Jackson Browne...
"Lives In The Balance"

I've been waiting for something to happen
For a week or a month or a year
With the blood in the ink of the headlines
And the sound of the crowd in my ear
You might ask what it takes to remember
When you know that you've seen it before
Where a government lies to a people
And a country is drifting to war

And there's a shadow on the faces
Of the men who send the guns
To the wars that are fought in places
Where their business interest runs

On the radio talk shows and the T.V.
You hear one thing again and again
How the U.S.A. stands for freedom
And we come to the aid of a friend
But who are the ones that we call our friends
These governments killing their own?
Or the people who finally can't take any more
And they pick up a gun or a brick or a stone
There are lives in the balance
There are people under fire
There are children at the cannons
And there is blood on the wire

There's a shadow on the faces
Of the men who fan the flames
Of the wars that are fought in places
Where we can't even say the names

They sell us the President the same way
They sell us our clothes and our cars
They sell us every thing from youth to religion
The same time they sell us our wars
I want to know who the men in the shadows are
I want to hear somebody asking them why
They can be counted on to tell us who our enemies are
But they're never the ones to fight or to die
And there are lives in the balance
There are people under fire
There are children at the cannons
And there is blood on the wire

I've rented the DVD of the first season of the BBC sci-fi sitcom "Red Dwarf," and the laughs are very welcome during these uncertain times.

But if you want a more serious answer, I'd have to say "Gimme Some Truth" by John Lennon.

27. A bit Out of Date, but "We've Got The Right" By Helloween
Edited on Sun Nov-28-04 01:24 PM by IAMREALITY
Out of nowhere I listend to a CD I hadn't listened to in years, Helloween's Keeper of the Seven Keys Part 2. The song on there "We've Got the Right" kinda hit home to me..

Here are the lyrics for those of you that never even heard of Helloween LOL:

We've Got the Right

Don’t turn your head
Back to the wall
Don’t close your eyes
And wait for your fall

If you belive that you know in this time
You’ve got anything to win
If you belive that you know
Then I say "you’ll lose all again"

In this time there’s nothing to get for you
You cannot really do what you want
You’re a child, a prisoner in your mind
You are a victim of this hopeless time

You better believe all you do has a sense
It’s not for nothing
You better believe all the troubles you have
Will pay you someday

Why don’t you help yourself and do the best
Put all the bombs back up their builders’ ass
Why don’t you stand up to say who you are
To show the people that paradise is not far

Oh, can’t you see we got the right
To look into the future without no need to hide
No we won’t accept what you do
We stand up ’cause we’re not the people
You can abuse
Oh, can’t you see we got the right
To say we are here to see the light
No, we don’t wanna lose all again
Stand up, you people, to save the world
As good as you can

We are credulous idiots
And won’t understand what they plan
We march with the times
It’s what they expect and we do
Why don’t you open your eyes
To undercover all of these lies
I think you won’t accept this
Go oppose with your fist
Fight for your rights

Oh, can’ t you see we got the right
To say we are here to see the light
No, we don’t wanna lose all again
Stand up, you people, to save the world
As good as you can

Edited on Sun Nov-28-04 02:51 PM by nashville_brook
is there a post count measurment etiquette that i am missing? i thought i would put the names of the recorded material that is inspirational in the subject lines so people could graze the subjects and get the meat without having to click all the way thru.

i thought i would share that experience b/c we all could use a little inspiration.

i thought the addition of comedy recordings was rather interesting...

sorry to have offended you. jeez!

30. Don't Let 'em Bleed You of Your Will
Tether by the Indigo Girls

Whatever it was, it wasn't a manumission-
To spill the blood, to pull the weed.
You can bury the past, but it's a mausoleum,
With the ghost of a fist that won't let us be.

Can we bring it together,
Can we call from the mountain to the valley below?
Can we make it better,
Do we tether the hawk, do we tether the dove?

I kicked up the dirt, and I said to my neighbor,
"We keep making it worse, we keep getting it wrong."
He tucked in his shirt, he stood a little bit straighter,
He said, "We need a few less words dear, we need a few more guns."

But will it bring us together,
Can we call from the mountain to the valley below?
Can we make it better,
Do we tether the hawk, do we tether the dove?

Enduring love,
Why so much and so strong, beyond this short existence?
So don't be still,
You say there's a long line behind you
And it's hardly worth the mentioning.
But I will,
'Cause we may flicker and fade,
But we never will be through with this.

I see this world battered but not broken,
There's a fallow heart, it's waiting on a slowing hand.
You can grow what you want, but one day it's gonna rise up,
So plant what you need to make a better stand.

And we'll bring it together,
And we'll call from the mountain to the valley below.
And we'll make it better,
Let go of the hawk, let go of the dove.

I sing to you all you true believers,
With the strength to see this and not be still.
I am telling you now, find the hope that feeds you,
Don't let 'em bleed you of your will.

40. The Impossible Dream (The Quest)
To dream ... the impossible dream ...
To fight ... the unbeatable foe ...
To bear ... with unbearable sorrow ...
To run ... where the brave dare not go ...
To right ... the unrightable wrong ...
To love ... pure and chaste from afar ...
To try ... when your arms are too weary ...
To reach ... the unreachable star ...

This is my quest, to follow that star ...
No matter how hopeless, no matter how far ...
To fight for the right, without question or pause ...
To be willing to march into Hell, for a Heavenly cause ...

And I know if I'll only be true, to this glorious quest,
That my heart will lie will lie peaceful and calm,
when I'm laid to my rest ...
And the world will be better for this:
That one man, scorned and covered with scars,
Still strove, with his last ounce of courage,
To reach ... the unreachable star ...

43. ike reilly's new disc, Sparkle in the Finish
Edited on Sun Nov-28-04 03:09 PM by nashville_brook
http://ikereilly.com/

Even tho most of his songs are political in the sense that the personal is political -- he has a searing gift for an outsider's outrage. even his love songs are political . on the first song: I Don't Want What You've Got he says:

i know you can't love the enemies
of all the things you trust
and i don't want what you've got going on

on the second song, Holiday in New York:
you need more and more and more and more
and i can't get you off
here's to your loss
that's standing gaurd over your religion

probably the most apropo is the song Ex-Americans -- but for me, it's not angry enough.

"The terrorists hate our freedom. The terrorists hate liberty. They are freedom haters. We are Freedom lovers. bush is always whispering that."

"if the terrorists hated freedom then the netherlands would be dust."

"and i don't think osama bin laden sent those planes into those buildings to attack our freedom. I think he did it because of our support for Isreal and our ties to the Saudi family and all our military bases in Saudi Arabia.

You know why I think that?

Because that's what he f*cking said! What, are we a nation of 6-year olds?"

47. Grievance - Pearl Jam
Edited on Sun Nov-28-04 03:50 PM by bj2110
"Progress laced with ramifications... Freedom's big plunge"
"For every tool they lend us... A loss of independence"
"Break the innocent when they're proud"

Full:

have a drink, they're buying
bottom of, bottle of denial
big guy, big eye, watchin me
have to wonder what it sees
(sin...)
progress laced with ramifications
freedom's big plunge
pull the innocent from a crowd
raise the stakes then bring em down
if they fail to obey
oh if they fail to obey
for every tool they lend us
a loss of independence
i pledge my grievance to the flag
cause you don't give blood then take it back again
oh we're all deserving something more
progress, taste it, invest-it-all
champagne breakfast for everyone
break the innocent when they're proud
raise the stakes then bring em down
if they fail to obey
oh if they fail to obey
pledge your grievance to the flag
aw c'mon, don't give blood then take it back again
oh we're all deserving something more
(have a, have a, drink, drink...)
(have a, have a, drink, drink...)
i want to breathe
follow the scene
i want to taste
everyone i see
i want to run when i'm up high
i want to run into the sea
i only want life to be...
i just want to be...
i will feel alive as long as i am free...

50. I can't be the only one with this problem
Any song can be paraphrased into anything (thus I can drive my kids crazy). If I am politically focused I can turn any song I start to hum into a song to Bush or for us as it comes out of my lips...Any song. Examples...

Want 60's? Mrs. Robinson turns into something like:

We'd like to know a little bit about you for our files
We've had to learn to learn to help our selves
Your dirty little secrets are Americas' affair
Most of all, you will not hide it from our kids

Coo, coo, ca-choo, bush you gotta know
Jesus loves all the things you don't (Wo, wo, wo)
God tells you hey, all you neocons
Hell holds a special place for those who betray
(Hey, hey, hey...hey, hey, hey)

Where have you gone, John F Kerry
A nation turns its lonely eyes to you (Woo, woo, woo)
What's do you say, hear America
Hoping you will have our backs like you say
(Hey, hey, hey...hey, hey, hey)

Or to be polite to bush, maybe some country?

Oh, it's cryin' time for bush you're gonna leave soon
I can see that far away look in your eyes
Can you tell by the way we check elections bushboy
That it won't be long before it's cryin' time

Now the office goes to the one who got the most votes
That's the way it's happened every time before
And as sure as the sun comes up tomorrow ('morrow)
Our smilin' time will start when you walk out the door

Cause it's smiin' time again, you're gonna leave us
You will soon be far away from all our eyes
You could tell by the way we voted you out. Yeah now
it won't be long before your cryin' time

Beatles to remember bush's brit friend:

We're looking through you, you've got to go
You thought you knew us, what did you know
Things don't look different, but things have changed
We're looking through polls, votes aren't the same

Our lips are moving, soon you will hear
Your yes men soothe you, but it will soon be clear
Votes sure look different, we see your game.
Our countrys hurting and your to blame

Why, tell us why, did you not treat truth right?
The emperors clothes have a nasty habit of disappearing overnight

You're thinking of plots, the same old way
You were above Us, but not today
The difference now is you're all be down there
We're looking through you, we won't go away

Hey...disco for bush?

At first I was afraid
I was petrified
Thinking "four more years of this"
just made me sick inside
But then I spent so many nights
thinking how they did us wrong
And I grew strong
No we wouldn't just move on
We'll get it back
It was our race,
We just have to count true votes,
wipe that smug look off of their face
We're going to change the white house lock
Bush is going to leave that key
This is not his country
It belongs to you and me

Go neocons, walk out the door
just turn around now
'cause you're not welcome anymore
Aren't you the ones who plotted, razed and lied,
Did you think we'd crumble
Did you think we'd lay down and die?
Oh no, not us
We will survive
If we love freedom, love democracy
We're keeping them alive alive
We've got generations yet to live
We've got truth and love to give
and we'll survive
We will survive

Or a line like Robert Plant's "Crazy on a Ship Of Fools" is just too descriptive to skip

Beneath the US moon I'm waiting
I am the pilot of the storm - adrift in discovery you may drown
We built this ship - it is our making
And furthermore your false controls you can't rely on anymore
I know why - I know why
Crazy on a ship of fools
Crazy on a ship of fools
Turn this boat around - back to our freedom loving ground

Who claims that not all votes are counted
While we land up in jeopardy - more distant from you by degrees
I don't walk this shore in isolation
And at my feet eternity draws ever sweeter plans for me
I know why - I know why
Crazy on a ship of fools
Crazy on a ship of fools

OK OK I will stop. You get the idea. Any song, every song can offer Paraphrasing therapy.

The children all knew that life was not right.
They danced and they played to the bewitching hour.
The children all told tales and stories passed down by each other as they roamed the land of lu.
Life was not right but the children played on.
The life of a child as small as can be.
They ran and they crawled, but the children all knew .
As they watched their momma's lay them down to rest.
They tried to smile, but the children all knew that life was not right in the land of lu.
Tales of fairy princesses and princes danced in their dreams, but soliders of war is what soon would be.
For the man in the house on top of the hill has laid out a plan.
The playgrounds may be empty but the children once knew that something was not right in the land of lu.

54. Hobo Sapiens - John Cale
John Cale is a politically astute musician, formerly of Velvet Underground. In an interview a couple of years ago he referred to living in an apartment in New York, waiting for the latest vomit from Karl Rove to be slipped under the door. Hobo Sapiens, like many of his recordings is sweetly sinister.

From "Zen"

Where is the Art of Sorcery we want to be fooled again
Staggered by deception charmed into submission
Helpless as a deck of cards

It's now the Art of Reality - calling a spade a spade
Facing the obvious a monkey and his grinder
But on a different plane
