Another newspaper interview with Olbermann on voting issues
and how his show is put together from day-to-day. http://www.cornellsun.com/vnews/display.v/ART/2004/11/29/41ab4c97a2735

Some excerpts:

The first story of the Countdown: 2004 election irregularities, and why Olbermann is the only major television news personality covering the story.

"On the "Thursday or Friday after the election," someone sent Olbermann a link to an article about a "lockdown" in effect on election night at the Warren County, Ohio courthouse because of a "terrorist threat." "It struck me on the face of it as the most ridiculous thing I had ever heard," Olbermann said.
After seeing countless other reports of minor voting inaccuracies, Olbermann was stunned. "Suddenly it was clear to me that there were a large number of stories suggesting widespread voting irregularities," he said. "At a minimum we know the election hardware is not working," he added. When asked why other reporters haven't picked up the story, Olbermann said that he "assumed everyone else would." But, he had some ideas as to why they did not.

"After Kerry conceded, the reaction of all the political reporters was probably to take time off," he said. "Also, 2000 was a disaster for the networks. They were beaten up by the newspapers. This time, nobody got beaten up." He said that the networks are "loathe to bring up" the fact that the exit polls had problems. In addition, Olbermann said that political reporters usually take their cues from what the Democrats and Republicans say."If there was a prominent Democrat saying this, it would be front page news," he said.

Lots more on the election story and the lack of coverage.

1. Wow! I didn't know Olberman was so smart!
"Olbermann entered Cornell at the young age of 16, a year younger than his classmates, after receiving a full scholarship to Boston University..."

My favorite quote: "We have proved time and time again that self-interest will trump party interests. This could become a non-partisan issue," Olbermann said.

2. I approve the subtle dig at Kerry.
It is time.
It is time.
It is time.

If Kerry says one time the f---d word, just once. I've got his back.

3. The comments are PRICELESS!
Why are you giving space to this delusional idiot? Shouldn't we be downplaying his Cornell connection?

4. Great piece- go Cornell!

Did you read the responses after the story? The last (5th) post was tremendous. I am tempted to drop her a thank you note and send a link to DU since she sounds like she belongs here! Maybe we all should do that! Imagine how happy she will be to see how many new friends she's made! Her email is on the site if you are interested but here is what she said in her post:

"I'll tell you why this story is important--because I was there in Columbus on election day and witnessed the blatant discrimination in the allocation of voting machines. Republican precincts got voting machines and Democratic precincts didn't. That's why the 8-hour lines were at Democratic polling places. In precinct after precinct I saw people leaving in droves without voting after waiting all day in lines that didn't move. A Democratic precinct I visited had 1 machine for every thousand voters--a nearby Republican precinct had one machine for every 184 voters. Those lost votes can never be counted. This issue must be investigated--it was a low-tech, stealth move to steal the election, and it blind-sided the press, most of whom still don't want to admit that they were taken in. Thank God for Keith Olbermann!!!

The right to vote is the bedrock of our democracy. The people who disenfranchised the voters in poor and urban neighborhoods need to be outed and prosecuted. There's a story to be told there, and I say Go Keith!!! Let's hope the rest of the press has the humility and patriotism to follow his lead. There can be no better use of our time and money.

16. My best friend lives in Columbus with her GOP nut job of a husband . . .
(who happens to be my husband's best friend). Well, she votes Republican because she says that "someone" has to give all the aborted babies a voice and try to save more from being aborted. I have REALLY felt like asking her it wouldn't be because you always have to have your nose up your husband's butt and do whatever he says to do. (They have separated 3 times and gotten back together and she is scared to death that he will tell her to leave again).

Rush Limbaugh is her husband's hero and he claims Reagan was the greatest president that ever lived. Needless to say, he and I have had some heated debates. I come at him with facts, he starts hollering about my being a bleeding-heart Liberal, Clinton was a murderer, Hillary is a Lesbian. He never can discuss any issue that is going on or justify what Bush has done to this Country. He looked me straight in the eye and said, "Bush has handled everything perfectly." I just shake my head and walk off. He tries to get me going again so he can get loud, but I tell him I refuse to discuss anything with someone he obviously has no idea of the facts and doesn't want to face reality.

Last spring my friend had to go into drug rehab to get off pain meds (about the same time as Rush), and now she goes to Narcotics Anonymous all the time. It was not long after that, that her husband had to go into rehab for alcoholism. I don't know if he goes to AA or not. I couldn't help myself but I sent them both an email (after they were home and better), stating, "What is it about you Republicans and drug and alcohol abuse? Could you be having a problem with your conscious?? (Yeah, after I did it I thought, that was kind of crappy, but I emailed again and said, "You know I was just kidding because Limbaugh is in rehab now too." They didn't act like they got mad but maybe they did????

I haven't spoken to him for a while because we use to email each other a lot. He would send me those stupid things that would be going around that had no truth to them whatsoever (Like the Ollie North testimony and he said the terrorist was Osama Bin Laden, when in fact, it was Abu Nadal. I corrected him on that and told him he should do what I do when people send me so-called reports about Dems and/or Republicans. I research it for the truth. I don't just take it at face value like he and his GOP friends seemed to. Well, I never got a response from him, so I emailed him again and asked him why he didn't reply. He emailed me and said, "I never read your emails, I just delete them because I'm not going to read your bleeding-heart Liberal BS). Well, that totally pissed me off and I told him fine, I would never email him again NOR would I accept his emails. I put him in my blocked list.

About 2-months later, another friend from Columbus stayed overnight at our house on their way back home from Florida. He and his wife had been to see her sister and they use us for a free hotel stop driving break. Anyway, this other friend said that my best friend's husband said that I said I was never going to speak to him again. I told him he was full of crap. I said I told him I would not email anymore and told him what he had emailed to me. I then asked the other friend if he wanted me to call the GOP idiot to prove my point and he said no. My husband told the friend that was visiting us that I never said or wrote that to the GOP idiot.

Well, since all of this, there have been no phone calls or emails either way. My friend has sent me emails but those little cutesy things where you have to send it back to them if you love or care about them and send it on to 10 more friends. I hate those stupid things. So you can see what I am up against.

I have wanted to call her, email her, or something to see what, if anything she has heard. She hasn't made any effort to contact me either about anything political. I haven't because I figure she will skip around the truth. She wouldn't lie to me straight out (but she wouldn't say anything that her husband would think was helping the Dems) There marriage is to the point where he says jump and she says how high? She loves him so much and he is really mental. I truly think so. I told her if he told her to leave again, she should tell him he could leave, she's already done it 3 times, and that it was his turn to leave. Then she said she told me that she told him that if he told her to leave again, she was going to move into the downstairs bedroom because every time he has told her to leave, she has moved all her stuff back down here in Virginia. Then after about two months, he comes begging he wants her back. He thinks it's going to be greener on the other side of the fence, then he gets out there and realizes there is nothing or no one that could love him anymore than her.

I really haven't talked to her at all since before the election and definitely not after the election. I don't know if she lives in a largely Democratic district or not.

Anyone got any ideas how I can kind of break the ice about the subject without her getting defensive immediately? Anytime I bring up the fact that voting Republican just because you are antiabortion is not a good reason because no Supreme Court is going to overrule another's' decisions. It's just a known fact. I told her I do not agree with everything the Democratic Party does; however, I know they But if I bring it up, she says she really has "deep" feelings about this and takes it seriously and does not want to talk about it because she doesn't want to get mad. (She and her husband know I'm a Democrat til death).

Sorry so long. I tend to write short stories every time I post. Also, I didn't want to mention their first names just in case someone may know who I am and who they are.

Seriously though, how can I break the ice and try to get some information regarding Columbus?????

"Political reporters usually take their cues from what the Democrats and Republicans say".

In that case, they're not journalists.

role as a training ground for reporters and getting this story on Olbermann! As a Sun Alum, I can tell you that from my time, a lot of pros came from it's ranks, and most didn't have to go to journalism school. People from my era are with Kiplinger's, Newsweek, The NY Times, Newsday and many other papers and publications. The Sun had, and probably still has, a great training program. I did a stint as Advertising Manager and then in my final year, did some small stories for the News Board. But my big "claim to fame" was taking over a cooking column called "Uncle Mudgeon" which was a blast....I took the domestic and foreign news of the day and somehow tied them into recipes that I received from Cornellians, my mother, and Sun readers at other colleges. I wrote them up on Sunday and they appeared in the Sun the next day.

The Sun recently bought its own building!

Olbermann is about 7 years after me; I was about 8 years after Wolfowitz.

Thanks for letting me remember...

18. What does that mean yourout? I have only seen that b4 on the
freeper's site. Are you a freeper in real life? See, Skinner lets freepers come on here; however, the freepers don't want any DU's in their community because if we ever do get to debate them, instead of trying to have an adult discussion and prove their point, they run, run, run to whomever runs the place, and he deletes our question. I wonder what they are so afraid of?????

Are you really just trying to yank our chain????

11. Smoking Gun in Ohio

Do you want the smoking gun on election fraud in Ohio? Why of course you do.

Go to the Sec. of State's web site and look at the vote totals by county for the Ohio Supreme Court Race of Connally vs Moyers. Connally is African American female who
had little money to buy media. In 13 out of 88 counties she pulled more votes than John Kerry. Moyer got more than the President in 4 out of the 88 counties. To compare
you can pull up the #s for the 2004 Presidential Race from the same site.

Guess what? Warren (lock down) County was one of the counties that an unknown African American female out pulled John Kerry in vote total.

Also look at the other counties and Kerry's vote total in many cases was much closer to Connally's vote total. President Bush's vote total was almost always
much greater than Moyers' vote total. Did somebody take votes from Kerry but not from Connally so as to cover their tracks?

http://www.sos.state.oh.us/sos/results/11-02-04.htm Link to Ken Blackwell's site.

Look at Auglaize, Brown, Butler, Clermont, Darke, Highland, Hocking, Mercer, Miami, Putnam, Shelby, Van Wert, and Warren Counties.

this story it is about to break big time.

15. Gee Thanks!
Thank you of N.Y. fame. Please do not be p.o.ed at all all of Ohio. I have no doubt
that Kerry won here if the vote was fair. But I saw and heard way too much to
doubt that "the fix" was not in. At one meeting where I was to give sworn testimony
about election irregularities that I knew of, person after person got up and said I voted for Kerry but the light went on for bush. That meeting got pg. 6 of the Columbus, Dispatch's metro section for about 6 paragraphs.

BTW where do you get the little icons?

Peace

19. Hi Botany. When you click on post and/or reply, notice above
the subject line and make sure there is a "Smilies enabled." and then right after that you should see "Smilies Lookup Table." You click on the "Smilies Lookup Table" and it will be you a list.

Hope that helped and glad to see more and more Dems coming online everyday. :hi:

17. Here is the absolutely BEST part:
<snip>
"I don't think there is any question that Ohio messed up the election . The question is: was it deliberate or accidental? And I don't really care which answer is correct," Olbermann said.

"You see machines with inaccurate vote counts, you see stories about unused voting machines in a warehouse when the precincts were begging for more machines because of long lines and long waits; these are facts, they are suggestive facts," he said.

"The only way that we can find out what happened is to ventilate the issue and find out what's wrong with these 'Rube Goldberg' voting machines." Olbermann said. "There is no national standard for elections, and if we don't get one, we are going to have an election just like the one in the Ukraine." <unsnip>

...and it's really clear how smart he is, if you watch his program for a while. A sense of humor like that is a product of intelligence.

20. I Also Wrote to:
It is also appropriate to give major props to the Cincinnati Enquirer staff reporters, Erica Solvig and Dan Horn, who broke the Warren County "lockdown" story, which Keith cites in the interview as the turning point in his assessment of the vote fraud conspiracy theories bubbling up from the web.

If we support them in their tremendous reporting efforts, perhaps Erica, Dan, and others will work even harder to get at the stories we KNOW are out there in Ohio. Here is the e-mail that I just sent to them:

'esolvig@enquirer.com'; 'dhorn@enquirer.com'

Hi Erica and Dan:

I wrote to you a few weeks ago to thank you both for breaking the story on the Warren County "lockdown" on election night. I just wanted to send along a recent article that describes how extremely influential your own article has been. If you read down into the attached interview, Keith Olbermann states that reading your article was the event that turned the tide for him and made him realize that there really might be something behind the allegations of vote fraud brewing on the internet.

At present, Keith is the only voice in mainstream US media consistently giving attention and a degree of credence to stories of vote fraud and systematic disenfranchisement emerging from the 2004 election. Those stories are all over the foreign press now, and it is only a matter of time before they start to get the attention they deserve here at home.

Anyway, your story may have had a big hand in changing US history. I hope you do some more digging, because you're batting 1000 so far!

"TexasLawyer"
