Anti-gay marriage amendments brought out the Fundies.
11 states, including Ohio, had anti-gay marriage amendments to thier state constitutions on their ballots. They passed on ALL 11 states. The fundies turned out to vote in big numbers. And while they were voting on the amendment, they voted for Bush too.

6. I agree. It helped Bush
MI margin should have been more. It may cost us Ohio and everything.

7. Yeah
I was stunned and disappointed how close Kerry won the state by. The margin he won by is almost half that what Gore got. Kerry won by less than a hundred thousand votes, compared to Gore's 200K+.

5. John Kerry is not a bigot and he

opposes same sex marriage, though he supports the rights of same sex couples being equal to those of married couples. Lots of people agree. Don't redefine the word marriage, which has been a commitment between a man and a woman for centuries. (Before you bring up polygamy, remember that Americans don't support that, either.)

Most people don't care who other people leave their money to or have on their health insurance plan, but they do care about efforts to change the meaning of marriage. You don't have top be a fundy or even conservative to have a traditional view of marriage.

8. That's not it
The marriage rights is a basic "code" issue that is basically a pronouncement that being gay, lesbian or any other deviation from heterosexual is BAD.

I agree with what most people are saying on this post. Fundamentalists of the christian or catholic order had a major influence on this election. And even in those traditionally democratic states, Kerry's win was not as substantial as it should have been due to the "moral" issues, the narrowly defined idea of morality that these sick, ignorant fellow Americans hold.
