Has anyone read 'The Exception to the Rulers' by Amy Goodman?

Amy Goodman of 'Democracy Now' fame.

I'm just getting into it, there's some great info about the companies that are profiting from the Iraq charade, very alarming! Check it out, you can never know too much.

1. Amy signed my copy!
When she was here in H-Town in the spring. There were about 300 of us in attendance.

It's "Exception to the Rulers", BTW.

2. I wish Amy Goodman would get an hour show on MSNBC
Yes, you are entitled to ask what I have been smoking.

I know it'll never happen, but just Imagine having "Democracy Now" on MSNBC, replacing Scarborough Country or having it on CNN replacing Judy Wooff-woof's "Inside Politics.

Chris Matthews has had Amy Goodman on "Hardball", which I thought I'd never see...so there have been tiny movements in the right direction.

3. She signed mine too!
I was at the same event with PDitte. :)

Love Amy & DN!

However, i found the book a little spotty - some parts more readable than others. Some of the same stories she told in her speech that night she signed our books - the "live" version from Amy was much more gripping than the read on the page. Would still recommend it, but there's my quibble.

4. I am about half way through this book & each
chapter enrages me. The corruption of our corporate government is astounding! This book provides the detail that I feel was left out of Economic Hit Man.

Every bushite should read this book. They fear the liberal media? Well here it is you cowards, in the full living color of blood red.

5. I read it last year and got very pissed off...
at everything we are not being told. I was also floored by by her recollections of East Timor, and almost dying there.

Then I lent it to a friend, and she got so pissed off she couldn't finish it.

Another friend just finished it, got very pissed off.

I got it back a few days ago, and I'm looking forward to lending it out again, soon. :)

7. I'm about 3/4 of the way through this book
& have decided if you are going to give one liberal book to a right winger, this is the book to give!

I discovered that one of my Dish stations televises her radio show. I'm going to start taping it.

8. I have read it,
Good book, it seems to deal a lot more with the corruption of the previous administration more than the current one. I'd like her or Palast to write a book about how private interests control our publicly "elected" officials.

9. Palast's new book "Armed Madhouse" is out in a couple of months
it's got alternate subtitle (I'm assuming for an international & US release)

Armed Madhouse: Who's Afraid of Osama Wolf?, The Best Legal Whorehouse in Texas, No Child's Behind Left and Other Tales of Class Combat in a Dying Regime

&

Armed Madhouse: Who's Afraid of Osama Wolf? China Floats, Bush Sinks, The Scheme to Steal '08, No Child's Behind Left, and Other Dispatches from the Front Lines of the Class War

"You want something heartwarming? Buy a puppy. But, if you want just the facts, ma'am facts rarely cuddly or cute here's your book. 'Before you enter these pages, I should warn you: I am not a nice man. But, I'm not prejudiced: it's not just Oval Office residents that make me gag, it's holders of offices in state capitols, in corporate towers and in a few churches too'. Award-winning guerrilla journalist Greg Palast has gone where most have been too scared to unearth the ugly truth about America today. And, he's got the documents to prove it. Here, he reveals just how scary it's got: how the Patriot Act has sent a nation crazy with fear? How ballot stuffing and black voter snuffing meant John Kerry actually won in '04, and the Republicans have 08 in the bag? How no child is left behind in the queue for jobs cleaning toilets, that is? And, how Bush's ownership society' means corporations buying up the planet? Plus, the story of the trillion-dollar Gulf War oil babies, why some people like to call Greg a Pinko bed-wetting freak, and how to join insurgency USA."

----- from Palast's site -----

TRILLION DOLLAR BABIES. If you suspected George Bush had a secret plan to control Iraq's oil from the day he took office, you'd be wrong. He had two plans and Palast has them both-the confidential documents from inside the State Department, and the full, hidden story of the titanic battle between neo-cons and Big Oil that keeps our troops under fire in Baghdad.

THE WORLD AS A COMPANY TOWN. Palast pushes Thomas Friedman off the golf courses of the Flat World and into an economics lesson. Palast delivers the truth about globalization with stacks of inside documents from the vaults of the IMF, the World Bank, and the WTO.

KERRY WON: Now Get Over It. Republicans just seem to have that winning spirit. They also have caging lists, felons of the future, rotting ballots, snuffed canaries, the undead, and a presumed lock on the 2008 election.

WHO'S AFRAID OF OSAMA WOLF? The macabre fun and folly of the war on terror -- Ground Zero as a profit center and Osama's Operation Islamic Liberation (O.I.L.), plus the Navy's $36 billion design for 'Marines in a Tube.'

CLASS WAR. Who drowned New Orleans? Investigations into the collapse of General Motors and how Bush is planning to have China save our social security system, plus-the coming assassination of Hugo Chavez.

10. Just started it this weekend
although I bought it last year at her appearance in Northampton, MA (actually I bought 8 copies, for friends and family, and she signed them all). It's an amazing read. She is an amazing woman!
