"The Weather Makers" by Tim Flannery.
This is a very good primer on recent discoveries regarding climate and global warming. To sum it up, We Are SOOOOOO Fucked. :scared:

To add to the problem of the gulf stream and rising sea levels; increasingly acidic oceans may cause a mass extinction of shelled organisms. Human development will get in the way of animals following the ecosystems poleward. Increased CO2 levels will cause the "rain recycling" effect of tropical rain forests to go haywire (check my relavent thread in the Enviroment/Energy forum), methane deposits in the ocean may become destabilized, releasing the gas into the atmosphere...

3. Read it last week.
Another good read of his is The Eternal Frontier. An ecological history of North America. In a way, it could be seen as a prologue to the Weather Makers.
