Fiasco - Thomas Ricks

Assassins Gate - George Packer

I have both of these books, but might consider getting another too.

Something else dealing with Iraq???

In a lot of ways, it is better than "State of Denial," because it really details from an on-the-ground military perspective how the situation in Iraq unraveled.

"Devil's Game: How the US unleashed Fundamentalist Islam"
by Robert Dreyfus, good historical perpective on development of
fundy Islam over the last 150 years, how it's been used as a
tool by European Imperialists, Oil Sheiks, and Cold Warriors.

6. I add my vvote for Fiasco, which I'm currently reading

and "enjoying," if you can say that about a book that infuriates you. The One Percent Doctrine (Suskind) and State of War (Risen), were each excellent and disturbing in their own way. They all corroborate and expand on each others' theses, that the war was planned and is being run by imcompetent, insane mofos.
