"The End of America: A Letter of Warning To A Young Patriot"
I just finished Naomi Wolf's new book, The End of America: A Letter of Warning To A Young Patriot, and all I can say is that EVERYONE needs to read it.

For those who do now know about it, Ms. Wolf analyzes prior democratic states that have, usually through the very framework of the democratic process, descended into fascist and dictatorial regimes. With this background, she takes a critical look at what is taking place in America today, the result of which is both chilling and frightening. Her analysis is a wake-up call to an America that has become complacence of its democracy, the liberties that underpin it, and its continuation based on its past.

(I read this right after I finished The Summer of 1787, David Stewart’s book about the writing of the Constitution, and I am sure the framers would be rolling in their graves were they to see what is going on in America today and what Ms. Wolf describes.)

2. I have hopes that this book reaches many, and people start actually
considering what she's presenting. It's such a far fetched, unbelievable concept to most Americans, we need an intro to open the door to the possibility. I feel she provides that intro.

Don't forget:

3. Though the * White House tries, they are not yet fascist as they want
to be. The country woke up after Katrina and Iraq. So the PNAC plan for domination didn't pan out. Now PNAC is gone. And so too Rove and all the others. For two or three years America looked like it was about to become a travesty. But out of the pain of soldiers dying while not finding WMDs and Katrina victims came the conscience of Americans.

For sure there are still fascist elements in power who want nothing more than a dumbed down democracy a la 19th Century. But they are more and more isolated.

7. I think that what really woke many up was our own attempt at a reichstag fire.
I wonder how much 9-11 woke people like myself up to the fascist takeover of our country.

5. I'm about half way through it.
It is excellent. I bought a copy for each family in my family for Christmas. They are always wondering what I'm ranting about, and I want them to know. I know some of them will read it, and I'm going to bug the daylights out of the least political ones, especially those with children, to read it, too.

And you are so right...the framers would be livid that we have let all their hard work, dedication, and courage come to this.

Franklin when asked what form of government they had come up with, responded..."A Republic, if you can keep it." (or something along those lines.) He knew it would require work to keep it, and we have failed to do that. America has become too complacent, and way too self-absorbed. Wolf does a good job of warning the reader about this trend, and backs up her assertions of the shredding of our Constitution with the latest abuses of our lying weasel in chief and his cronies in charge.

It's not too late, but I agree with her, it's getting close. The pendulum she speaks of is poised, but stuck. We need to do our job as We the People, and give it a good strong nudge.

6. Just started it today.
Very, very well written. A primer for those who haven't been paying as much attention as, say, the average DUer. I'll be evangelizing for this book.
