I'm a big Patti Smith fan and know a fair amount about her and her work. But "Just Kids" was a journey into her teenage and early years, and I knew very little of it. It's fascinating to read how she and Robert Mapplethorpe got together and stayed close until his death. It's revealing to see how meager her early New York existence was.
I'll stop there because I don't want to spoil anything for you. Patti Smith--in addition to being an important progressive voice and great artist, is an excellent writer as well. Enjoy.
