The Simpsons Appreciation Thread
Thankfully, we still have The Simpsons, the best subversive comedy on television.

Please post favorite episodes, moments, quotes, et al.

One of my many, many favorites and one most of us know...Bart puts the music sheet for In A Gadadavida by Iron Butterfly on the church organ music holder. Mayhem ensues. ROFLMAO.

2. 'Mayhem ensues"? Correction: the entire extended organ solo "ensues".

3. Last night's repeat was when Bart inadvertently mooned the flag
and the family fell afoul of the "Government Knows Best Act."

The Simpsons is in repeats opposite the nightly propaganda hour. I find them much more informative than the evening news.

12. Stay right here for our encore!
omg, that is the best episode ever.. I rewatched it again last night. The part where the Bill of Rights is dying on the ground is very amusing to me...

I need help, I know it.

5. And they're on Fox.
What do we think about that? Imagine how much damage the cast and crew could do to Fox - financially and ratings-wise - if they decided to strike or something. Are they hypocrites? Or does Rupert keep them all chained in a basement, softly crying "killl... meeee..."?

10. I hope that the producers and writers have enough fiscal leverage
to call the shots on the show. I heard Matt Groening (sp) interviewed on Fresh Air, and he said that they had an uneasy alliance with Fox.

He referenced an episode where the Fox executives were concerned the content might insult their beer advertisers...the content was kept as is, and he seemed to find it amusing. MKJ

15. On a DVD commentary Groening said that FOX never censored them politically
I don't remember on which episode's commentary that was on.

18. There was one episode from years ago...Marge and Homer were
talking in bed. Homer had done something to piss off Mr. Burns (I don't remember exactly what) and Homer was panicking, scared that Mr. Burns would ruin him. And he said to Marge, "Marge, make me feel better, make me feel better".

Marge thought for a minute and then said, "You know, Homer. You like the little things. Donuts in the morning, and beer at night. Mr. Burns can take everything else from you, but he can never take that away." (this is a paraphrase, but captures the thought.) She then told him that simple pleasures made him happy, and that those pleasures would always be there.

I loved the sentiment of that episode, and the very obtuse reference to Thoreau. An amazing show. MKJ

8. The best episode has to be the one
when Homer was accused of Sexual Harassment

"Her-Sweet-Sweet-Can(dy)"

"MMMMMM...Precious Venus"

22. The "Portrait of an Ass-Grabber" part...
with Dennis Franz supplying Homer's voice, still cracks me up.

"Now to grab me some sweet!"
"No Mr. Simpson, that's sexual harassment, and if you continue, I'll scream so loud the whole country will hear me!"
"Even the man in the White House?"

13. Great Episode
The best part is "crab kalash". The seller asks Homer if he wants Mountain Dew or Clam Juice. He says - oooooh Mountain Dew and begins to drink gallons of Clam Juice. The next scene he has to run up the twin towers to use the restroom. Just classic!

11. I also loved the episode when Homer was prescribed pot, for medicinal
purposes...I think his eyes were pecked out by crows..anyway, Marge suspected he wasn't just using the pot for his eyes, and Homer became such good friends with Otto the bus driver, Otto moved into their attic. MKJ

19. I'll vote for the "shorts" from the Tracy Ullman show
That's where I became a fan. I'll say the burping contest was the best of the shorts.

As far as the regular episodes, I'll pick the "Krusty is Busted" episode, where Sideshow Bob dressed up as Krusty and robbed the QuickieMart. An oldie, but a goodie...

21. One of my favorite Simpson's lines:
Marge walked into the room where Bart and Lisa were watching Itchy & Scratchy. Some sort of brutal murder occurred, and Marge shook her head saying, "I just don't understand these cartoons", and Lisa replied, "Mom, if cartoons were meant for adults, then they would put them on during prime time".

One of my favorites is the one where Krusty the Klown gets elected to Congress and they have the fake Fox News "crawl" at the bottom of the screen at one point in the episode.

30. How about the one..
... where GHW Bush and the Gila Monster moved into the house accross the street? Bart terrorizes Poppy and ruins his memoirs, Poppy does donuts on the Simpson's lawn, Babs tells Marge, "Oh it was just like that with Noreiga!"

The kicker is after the Bushes move out, Gerald Ford moves in. He invites Homer to come over to watch a football game, and they both trip at the end of the driveway. D'oh!

31. Man this could take forever..So many great ones to choose from...
Bart: Oh, no! The dead have risen and are voting Republican!

Homer: What am I going to do with all these angel ashtrays?
Bart: I'll take up smoking!
Homer: You damn well better.

Marge: C'mon, kids. You all have to chip in and eat your father's share.
Lisa: Why don't you just cook less?
Marge: I don't do things that way, Lisa.

Flanders: Hallelujah! The Lord has smote the wicked and spared the righteous!
Homer: Woo hoo!
Flanders: Sheesh. Apparently heaven's easier to get into than Arizona state.

Just a few..

with the gigantic "Bush/Cheney 2004 sign on its side?

Otherwise a C- episode, but that bit was deeply satisfying.

36. My absolute favorite
Was from one of the early seasons...Flanders gives Homer a ticket to a football game, and Homer becomes Flander's best friend, and slowly drives Flanders crazy...So many amazing moments...my favorite...the homeless shelter called "The Helter Shelter", and Flanders dreaming he's in a bell tower taking out Homers...

It was just one of those shows where every joke & every thing that was in the scene was hilarious...

As much as I hate Fox...I am seriously thankful this show is still on...
