Anybody watch Real Time this weekend?
Edited on Tue Feb-12-08 03:30 PM by danalytical
Who saw that section where Bill Maher was claiming everything in the pharmacy was poison and that antibiotics were poison. He said if you get sick enough to need antibiotics then you are unhealthy and have a swamp festering in your body. He said his immune system is so strong that he doesn't get sick. Man, it was really creepy. How can anybody believe this garbage. I understand that argument about some Docs over prescribing meds etc. But he was WAY out there. Is he a scientologist or something?

1. He has some unsound ideas.

I'd like to tell him two things:

One man's poison is another man's cure, and

Dosage matters! Eat too much of any one thing, and you'll die. Too much water can kill you, but that doesn't mean water is poison.

2. His position was
that any amount of something that can kill at a high dosage is just a small amount of poison, and that it's just as bad. I mean, what the hell? By that reasoning, antibiotics are poison if I took 80 at once it would kill me. It's so asinine.

6. As if you can just avoid viruses
I'm a healthy person who eats well and gets exercise. But I have gotten sick plenty times this year. I have kids, if you have kids you simply cannot avoid getting sick. Maybe Bill just thinks he has a great immune system because he lives in a mansion and flies first class and overall has minimal human contact. I'd like to see him visit the hospital where I work and then go to one of my family functions with 10 children without getting sick.

7. I usually just ignore when he goes off on stuff like that
I mean, if he can go without medicine, more power to him, but the last show he was beginning to remind me of Tom Cruise, and I LIKE Bill. As much as I would like to go without medicine, I can't, or I probably wouldn't be alive today.

He's not a scientologist, just gets a belief in his head and decides it's the only way sometimes. He should stick to politics.

9. I hear you
I like him most times, but when he started with that line I was sort of taken aback. What do you do if you have inflamed airway caused by asthma? Eat antioxidants and a salad?
