3. Battle Royal is pretty fun, but I would not consider it horror.
I love Suicide Club and Attack Girls' Swim Team vs. the Undead, those are both great for different reasons.

Suicide Club begins like a horror movie, but then it seems to switch gears about 1/3 of the way through.

AGSTvsTU is zombie horror/comedy with a little soft core porn thrown in. Worth your money.

Evil Dead Trap has some fun scenes.

A Chinese Torture Chamber Story is one of the best movies ever made.

Man Behind the Sun aka Men Behind the Sun is fucked up if I remember correctly. A sequel was made titled, Laboratory of the Devil, which is a bit tamer. I could be mistaken, but I believe the original has some real animal cruelty, more cruel than the old Italian movies, such as Cannibal Holocaust and Mangiati VIVI.

If you love the old Italian zombie movies, such as Zombie 2, you should check the Japanese movie, Junk. Not the best movie, but a pretty good homage to the old Italian movies.

4. I agree Battle Royale is more an Adventure movie..sort of
But the site is cool in the sense it has a smattering of everything. Sucide club is cool but like you said it suddenly changed gears halfway through the movie. I think Ju-On would really be classified as pure horror. Junk is an awesome movie!

5. im into asian movies in general
i also like the fact that you used the term "movies". one of my peeves is when people talk about 'films' instead of movies. i just find it pretentious :)

i have found that asian movies in general are just generally so much BETTER than much of what i see coming out of the US. i find european films to be the worst imnsho. over and over again, when i rent european films, even those that are celebrated as great "films" i am almost always dissapointed. french movies especially just almost ALWAYS suck. i am still unsure about martyrs though. i just can;'t decide what to think about that movie. it was certainly gory, but i can't really say whether it was good. it's a draining experience to watch, though.

the UK is an exception imo. one recent british movie i saw was "doomsday" which is kind of an action-horror hybrid with nods to escape from new york, road warrior, etc. the fact that rhona mitra is astoundingly sexy helps too. 28 days later and 28 weeks later were also quite good i thought.

i have also seen some REALLY good movies coming out of mexico. in regards to lauded euro films, i refer to such as "run lola run" which was just OK, but was supposed to be SO good.

to give you a frame of reference, my all time favorite horror movie is The Exorcist (hands down). I also really like rosemary's baby, jacobs ladder, halloween, and the john carpenter remake of the thing

i did see one excellent scandinavian horror film recently "let the right one in" which is a moody, "slow burn" type horror film. just excellently done.

as far as asian movies go, one of my all time favorites is infernal affairs (not a typo). this movie was redone in the US as "the departed" and got great reviews. i thought it was a sucky lifeless remake, frankly.

asian action flicks just ROCK. their horror films constantly get remade in america (the grudge, the ring, etc.). korea, hong kong, japan, etc. put out some amazing movies.

have you seen infernal affairs? i strongly recommend it.

sorry, for babbling, but i am a big movie buff. i am also on a short term disability from work (probably going to run about 4 months), so am wathcing a lot of movies. always looking for recommendations.

13. np, I think your right on every count
I also make movies myself, working on my 2nd full length feature now. I hate the term film. I think its way too snobby. My thing is also, I have never even used "film" media and everything I have ever done has been digital. Todays "filmmakers" the effective ones, are half programmer, software/hardware gurus and marketing deptartments all rolled into one. I know lots of other failed indie filmmakers who think "If I make a movie, people will beat a path to me, simply not true, making the movie is only half the battle. Plus, sorry I dont make art "films" I make entertainment/new media.

woops I ranted :)

6. I will tell my son.
He just turned 19 and is an avid movie collector. I just ordered a Thai movie based on some legend or another for him.

No subtitles. He claims he can follow and enjoy them anyway.

Thanks for the link! :hi:

7. Had that one bookmarked for a long time now.
Usually watch at least one per week. Last week's movie was R-Point, which wasn't too bad.

Fans of regular horror should sign up here http://www.gotohelltown.com/ as it has damn near every horror movie going back to the 70's, and plenty even earlier than that. It's a horror fan's wet dream. :)
