J-Lo's delusions of grandeur
Jennifer Lopez: I deserved an Oscar nomination for my role in 'El Cantante'

BY Amy Eisinger
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER

Wednesday, January 6th 2010, 11:59 AM

Jennifer Lopez isn't dwelling on the past.

In a recent interview with Latina magazine, the Bronx native dished about her husband Marc Anthony, working with former flames and her Oscar potential.

Lopez revealed a moment of egoism, admitting that she felt her performance in the film "El Cantante," in which she starred with Anthony, should have earned her an Oscar.

"I feel like I had that (Oscar worthy role) in 'El Cantante,' but I don't think the academy members saw it," says Lopez. "It is a little bit frustrating. When the Oscars were on, I had just given birth on the 22nd, and the Oscars I think were a day or two later. I was sitting there with my twins — and I couldn't have been happier — but I was like 'How dope would it have been if I would've won the Oscar and been here in my hospital bed accepting the award?'"

But she's not exactly losing sleep over her lack of accolades.

Lopez says that "things will happen when they're supposed to happen" and that she has the "utmost faith and no doubt that it will one day." .............(more)

1. As a woman, a Puerto Rican and as someone who
was born and raised in the Bronx, she makes me ill. Ugh. Can she be more full of herself?

3. But... but... but...
She's just Jenny from the block!!!

I personally would have loved for her to win so she could say how, "dope," it was in her acceptance speech.

6. Yeah, but someone who got that triple whammy and
has achieved her sort of success gets to be full of herself. I haven't seen the flick but I do know she's managed to make the transition from stage diva to actress credibly, if not spectacularly.

I'm always a little more annoyed by Hollywood brats who got grandfathered into the business and think they're simply entitled.

She knows she's an upstart, at least, and that she's got to work twice as hard to get half as far. Since I always favor the underdog, I've got to hope that she develops as an actress and makes it, although her talent has her at the second tier now.

I once read an article about JeLo that said she was raised "in a house full of lookers."

I immediately assumed that the writer had used the wrong consonant.

Fun game: compare Julia Roberts' movies with JeLo's. A whole string of Lopez movies were bad Xeroxes of Roberts movies, which weren't that great to begin with themselves. e.g., "Enough"/"Sleeping With The Enemy," etc. etc.

I did enjoy her performance in Oliver Stone's "U-Turn," where she was sodomized by Nick Nolte, then eventually thrown over a cliff and left for dead.

For me, Slopez is in the category of "Not Naturally Talented Entertainers." This also includes Madonna, Britney Spears, and a whole passel of other annoying "stars" of both genders.

Their fans usually defend them by saying that they "work really hard."

To quote E.G. Marshall in Xmas Vacation - "So do washing machines."

12. There just aren't that many roles for women in film. Lines for women on screen are really down. nt

2. Oh, please.
I don't have anything against her, per say, but I consider actresses such as Streep, Winslet, Blanchet etc. to be Oscar-worthy. I'm a huge fan of Maggie Gyllenhaal and think she has the chops to get an Oscar someday. I'm still kind of scratching my head over Julia Roberts, but, in my opinion, there isn't even a comparison between Roberts and Lopez. And for Ms. J-Lo to make such a statement... well, I think that shows that she is more about the accolades than the actual craft. (I'm sure she isn't alone, but you don't *say* it in an interview. You keep that secret tucked in your pocket.)

5. Lopez wouldn't know an "oscar-winning performance" if it bit her on her
big fat butt.

Seriously, that woman ranks right up there as one of the Worst 'Actresses' of All-Time.

7. I don't understand why so many hate this woman.
I think she is absolutely beautiful, and she works hard and takes care of herself, isn't doping it up or acting goofy. Ego? Sure but nowhere near the size of someone as say, Mariah Carey.

9. I agree. I don't have any strong opinion about J-Lo, but this criticism is unfair.
Carey's career seems to be sliding downhill.

10. I haven't really enjoyed any of her movies even when they had a good script
I don't know why. She's a fair actress but the emotions just don't come through like they are supposed to.
