Does anyone here watch Hardcore Pawn?
Hardcore Pawn is about a pawn shop in Detroit where people pawn their items to pay their bills or gamble in the casinos. I started watching it since I was addicted to the 'Pawn Stars' show currently airing on the History Channel.

But holy crap was I in for a surprise. Seeing all these people coming in to the store begging for more money or lying about getting scammed by the store managers and then getting into verbal fights with them just made me depressed. Seriously, what is wrong with this country? We are spending trillions on shit that we do not need and we got so many people struggling to make a living.

Granted that some of the people in the show have themselves to blame for their misfortunes.

Like the lady who pawned her TV and three hours later she was back to sell her ring so that she could use the money to gamble and pay the bills!

Here is a link to one of the episodes:

1. Oh--For a minute there I thought you said hard-core
Prawn

Although, truth to tell, I believe the shell is harder than the core.

2. I had the same reaction to it. I, too, love PAWN STARS.
The combination of history, collectibles, and Rick Harrison are great! But I watched and couple of episodes of HARDCORE PAWN and it depressed me so thoroughly, I never saw it again.

8. Same here!
Pawn Stars rules for the exact reasons you stated. I couldn't even get through a single episode of the other show.

13. Pawn Stars...
has more of an art gallery, curio shop, boutique atmosphere... that's how Rick made his niche by being different from all the other stereotypical pawn shops out there.

Hard Core Pawn has more of a Salvation Army/Thrift shop, "Checks Cashed" touch to it.

I don't find the latter "depressing", it's actually kind of amusing hearing some of the excuses and antics the customers come up with.

3. I can't watch shows that capitalize on the misfortunes of others
I fully understand that but for the grace of God I go...I could be in the same shape.

I despise these shows.

9. I do not find it entertaining. It is depressing...
There is just too much anger, sad stories, and people being just dumb...

7. we don't have satellite anymore, but my husband watched that hardcore pawn
show. i didn't mind the pawn stars so much. but i didn't care for that other one so much. the dad took his kids to go get guns. i could understand the why of it, but i still didn't think it was a good idea. maybe have security guys who were trained to use guns have them, but not everyone there.

11. I've watched it a few times.
Waaay too many assholes, loudmouths and attitude walking through the door.

I already have enough of a problem working in any employment sector where dealing with the public is a major portion of the job... especially sales.

I wouldn't last 30 minutes working in that particular environment before I was either fired, or arrested for assault.

17. Caucasian.
The family running this pawn shop are Caucasian. And the great majority of their clientele is minority folks.

16. I've watched pawn stars and think they are truly shysters. They bemoan the fact that
something is old or needs this or that, put when the customer leaves they are tickled pink that they got a "deal". At least on hardcore pawn they are pretty up front about their deals.

20. Totally agree
Plus, they are radical Repukes. Check out his (Rick's) office from time to time. He has a "Miss Me Much" Bush picture. A ton of anti-President Obama sayings as well. I saw that on the wall and I was out. Haven't watched those wackos since.

19. "Pawn Stars" is on the History Channel...
"Hardcore Pawn" is on Tru TV.

With regard to the History Channel... it's programming is oftentimes as relevant as when MTV used to be a music video channel... sometimes you have to diversify in order to keep peoples interests up.

At least with "Pawn Stars" (and "American Pickers" and "American Restoration"), there's a tie in with history via the artifacts and the stories behind them (stretching things a bit... but like I posted, diversify).

Personally... I love to watch all 3 shows (and I seldom watch that much TV/cable).

What they need to do away with is all the paranormal, alien visitation and Nostradamus crap.
