Unusual Vietnam-era PX Peace Medallions

I was looking for something unusual to make a piece of jewelry for my sister's birthday, and found something perfect from a collector of military hardware. My sister calls herself an 'aging hippie chick' so this fit the bill. I loved them so much I purchased his lot to give to friends.

This piece is solid brass and was manufactured by Ira Green, a company that manufactures military medals and various other uniform hardware. These were sold in the PX during the Vietnam war. The level of detail is really amazing for something so small - it's roughly the size of a quarter.



If anyone is interested, I have some left and would be glad to fashion a bit of historical jewelry for you. I can put one on either 1mm black leather cord, black silk cord or a brass chain (let me know the length you want). If you'd like any beading on the cord let me know and I'll work out a design. Brass tarnishes and some like the antiqued look but if you don't I can add a light coat of jeweler's lacquer to prevent it from tarnishing.
