If I was to sell a domain name to one of you guys,

what would be the proper procedure?

1) come up with some seemingly trendy domain name, preferrably one that will be irrelevant in December...
2) ask a ridiculous sum of money for it. aim high. clearly your domain must be worth hundreds, no, THOUSANDS!
3) cash in an laugh to the bank!

no, seriously, your domain registrar can change the ownership if you tell them-

I did actually come up with a clever name and put it up on Sedo, but not one bite! I should've marketed it on a political site in the first place...thought about Ebay, but some say Ebay is not the place afterall, to sell a domain. Where's the best place? Anyone know?

to change the ownership. They will have their own procedure. You should be able to do it in whatever module you use to buy domains.

I have a few domains I'd sell for the right amount of money, meaning a LOT. But I don't know where to sell them either. Sucks, don't it.

Where they can put the money in the escrow and then you transfer the domain registration and then the escrow releases the funds. You could draw up a contract too, I suppose.

First, go through an escrow service (choose one carefully since there are a LOT of scams out there) -- I'd go through one you find on one of the big domain auction services. Don't list your domain there, though, unless you want to auction it off. A buyer in the hand is worth more than the potential of an auction -- especially in this market. http://sedo.com and http://afternic are two big ones. One of the escrow services I use is http://escrow.com, if you just want to take my word for it.

Once the buyer sends the money to the escrow service, they inform you via email and then you transfer domain ownership (it's slightly different at all registrars -- look for their FAQ) and then you'll have to "acknowledge" via email the transfer request to the email address on your domain name. And the escrow service sends the funds to you.

I am very interested in the domain selling business, and have a lot of ideas for names. Is this a business of yours or is it a sideline? I grow so tired of trying to make a buck online, I think I've become cynical. I'm a writer, but find that all the freelance gigs are taken by overseas bidders at very low rates. I am financially quite scared at the moment, since Hubby has been out of work. But I know everyone is!

It's a small amount of money at first but it builds as you create a following. I do about $800 a month with three historical romances.
I was once a webmaster but, thanks to Bush, the money is largely gone from that now. You have to use Black Hat (unethical) search engine techniques to get a ton of traffic and I can't bring myself to do that so I've found other ways. All my domains are left over from the free site days but I also host some and get them abandoned/given to me. I have over 200 of them.
