Editorial: Rosie O'Donnell, ACLU owe existence to Christianity.
Edited on Thu Jan-04-07 08:43 AM by newyawker99
And if you believe in evolution, as did Hitler, AIDS is simply natural selection and survival of the fittest in action.

Oh, Rosie, you bad, bad lesbian. First taking on The Donald and now RADICAL (underlined) Christianity. So along comes the writer to explain how you owe your very existence to Christians. Oh, and that bit about if you believe in evolution (AS HITLER DID) then you must also believe such and such about AIDS.

From what I can tell he is an officer at his Baptist church, so I don't know if he is a "real" Christian, but in any case here is an editorial just chock full of spreading the good news about his faith in a nonjudgmental and welcoming way. :eyes: Enjoy.

By Ronald Curry, Greensburg

Not long ago, talk show personality Rosie O'Donnell made an interesting statement - "Radical Christianity is just as threatening as radical Islam." Christianity? Threatening? Perhaps it would be beneficial if she were to look at Christianity's impact on the world throughout history.

In the ancient world, child sacrifice was common. In Rome, not only was abortion legal, unwanted children were also abandoned to be consumed by wild animals or to starve. Because of the influence of Christianity, abortion and infanticide disappeared. Orphanages and nursery homes were started to care for babies and deserted children.

Other cultures eliminated their elderly. Eskimos killed their elderly by putting them in ice floes floating out to sea. With the influence of Christ, however, all human life has value, even the elderly.

Before Christianity, women didn't have it much better than children or the aged. Aristotle said that a woman was somewhere between a free man and a slave. Baby girls were abandoned or killed more than boys. The influence of Christianity was responsible for women obtaining legal protection.

Rosie probably doesn't think Christianity should condemn homosexuality.

Regardless of your opinion, consider what would happen if Rosie had been born in the Middle East, where homosexuals still face the sentence of death in some Islamic countries.

The first victims of the Holocaust were 70,000 insane or incurable people. Tens of thousands of homosexuals were put to death. And if you believe in evolution, as did Hitler, AIDS is simply natural selection and survival of the fittest in action. :mad:Note: Fuck you, Mr. Curry.

1. Love this one
"Before Christianity, women didn't have it much better than children or the aged. Aristotle said that a woman was somewhere between a free man and a slave. Baby girls were abandoned or killed more than boys. The influence of Christianity was responsible for women obtaining legal protection."

Way before Christianity many cultures were Matriarchal in nature.

2. Well....
History tells us that Galelio discovered that the earth revolves around the sun. Too bad the church had such a hard time accepting the facts. Ohhh and don't forget the dinosaurs tell the bible to explain the archeological evidence.

3. Not to worry
The christian politicians in this state appear to have dedicated themselves to returning the elderly, sick and disabled to the ice floes.

4. Still, with global warming, the ice floes will be no more...
Better to just drown them and get it over with.

6. Oh, what incredible fucking horseshit
One doesn't know where to start. Perhaps with a list of pre-Christian contributions to science, agriculture, language, astronomy and a host of other disciplines without which the Western world might still be sitting around in its own slop.

Or maybe by slicing and dicing the author's logic that asserts that, since the Western world was Christianized, it is Christianity that was responsible for all advances made by the Western world. That one makes my eyes cross.

Or maybe by challenging his figure of 17 million dead due to Christian atrocities. Is he counting the slaughter of indigenous populations wherever the West spread its empires? Some contemporary estimates place the pre-Columbian number of native Americans as high as 15 million, uncountable numbers of whom were wiped out by good Christian disease-carriers - making it necessary for our ancestors to import slaves. (I love how he dismisses the thousands of Christians who profited from slavery by naming one who fought against it.)

But all that will have to wait until my rage subsides over the sweet and noble depiction of women's history in Christianized countries. Under canon law women largely remained the property of their fathers and husbands. They were required by law to obey their husbands in all matters. Only aristocratic women enjoyed any of the freedom that accompanies wealth and power. Even worse, women were regarded as an ocassion of sin, a satanic threat to man's eternal salvation by sheer dint of having been born female.

Jerome, a highly influential writer whose translations of Greek and Hebrew texts became the standard text of Western Christianity, was deeply misogynist: "Woman is the gate of the devil, the path of wickedness, the sting of the serpent, in a word a perilous object." Ambrose, a powerful bishop responsible for creating canon law, excluded women from any power in the church by linking female inferiority with female sexuality. Augustine defined carnality as a sin of will, rather than an act; therefore one's innate sexuality is an occasion of sin, a belief that gave rise to a puritanism that was not overridden by the Reformation and still exists in Christianity today.

As late as the 19th century in Britain (a very Christian nation at the time), a woman's property belonged to her husband upon marriage, as did any earnings. So don't talk to me about legal protection. I'm not gonna thank the Church just because I don't have to worry about being abandoned on an ice floe. :eyes:

BTW Mr. Curry, Pat Robertson approves of abortion. In China. Where he has many investments. Next time you mail him a love offering, ask him why it's okay to abort Chinese fetuses but not American ones.

7. I find it funny this man omits the HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS killed in the name of empire and "God."
Edited on Thu Jan-04-07 06:49 AM by Selatius
Wherever Christian missionaries went, it was not long after that imperial armies followed in the name of, as the Spanish said at the time, "Gold, Glory, and God" to lay claim to all that Native Americans and Africans and many Asians once held.

I want to know if this guy even admits to the fact that hundreds of millions died of starvation just so the empires of Europe and America had access to raw resources to keep their factories running day and night starting from the Age of Exploration to the Age of Imperialism well into the 20th century. Further, I want to know if this guy admits the imperial lords, kings, and princes of Europe justified their empires over humankind citing godly "divine right" to rule.

9. Ironic. ACLU was started in the 20s partly due to Christian fundamentalists
who passed a law in Tennessee whereby if you taught the theory of evolution, you would be imprisoned, fined, and have a criminal record.

10. 1 billion fetuses killed through abortion in the last 20 years?
That would mean almost 140,000 fetuses are killed every day.

Nice try Mr. Curry, but you lose. Please DON'T try again.

:sarcasm:

If these people had seen Jesus in the street, they would have called him an "evil-doer". The guy was long-haired, homeless, unmarried and hung out with odd fishermen and a whore. And he had a big mouth. Plus he was into some of that wierd homeopathy junk.

Feed two thousand people on seven loaves and two fishes? Whuddya on? LSD? Ya hippie....

Then again, historical accuracy is not this man's point, now is it?

the Crusades, the Spanish Inquisition, the Holocaust, and the spread of 'the white man's burden' never killed anyone in the name of christianity...among many other happenings.
Oh, and what was it about those Conquistadors? Who'd they slaughter all those natives in the name of? Oh, of course. not-god, the deity of atheism.

22. I'm starting to like articles like this one
They tell me that the fundies are backed into a corner and they're grasping at any straw in a futile attempt to justify their barbaric world view.

The more self-evident bullshit that idiots like this publish, the more they damage the already shredded credibility of the xtian right. Bring it on!
