Tree in Texas forms image of Christ crucified, believers say
An ordinary tree on an ordinary street in Crystal City has now become a gathering point for believers and the curious.

The tree has no fruit. It has no flowers. It has no leaves. It has, however, grown its tangled limbs into an image, that some say, looks like Jesus Christ outstretched on the cross.

"I think He's here for a reason," said Betty Jo Hernandez. The tree is on her property.

"I think it may be a sign," said Janie Gutierrez, Hernandez's neighbor.

2. How does any one know what Jesus looked like?
Was he fat? Was he thin? Short or tall? All anyone would know (if he existed) was that he was a 30 year old Jewish male.

Perhaps common archetypes have a physical origin in the structure of the brain.

8. You forgot a couple words
a 30 year old...middle eastern...Jewish male.

(I emphasize middle eastern due to the fact that your 30 year old German Jewish male would not have the same type of look)

why people's depictions of any of these (possibly) historical figures is stupid.

but then arguing over whether an inkblot or semen stain or whatever looks like a 15th century artist's rendition...

because I think many racial characteristics of Jewish people have survived the diaspora. The German Jews I all know are rather Middle-Eastern looking.

I was stifling a laugh-out-loud moment when my parents took me and my wife there for mass. (Mom's still quite religous...but quite a Dem too!) Even my mother thought it tacky...and she's an old Italian Catholic.

The entire building is the largest collection of Christian art in the Western hemisphere (hell...even if you're not Christian some of it is fantastic repository of art period) and this is just the about the only tacky scary piece there...and it dominates the altar area. The basement has got some really cool exibits.

25. I really need to go to a few Catholic Churches in Mexico
In Pittsburgh, you always had one or two old Polish or Italian ladies who carried around water from Fatima or something. But, in Mexico, it seems like you can convince everyone that a shadow puppet is really the Virgin Mary.

Their priests must be really really awesome.

I see no reason not to let them be. Hey, if it gives them some feeling of hope and joy to believe in that then more power to them right?

Way I see it, anything real, perceived or otherwise that brings hope and joy into someone's soul is a good thing; period.

34. These people have seen an image of Jesus or the Virgin in a forkful
of spaghetti on a Dallas billboard, an angle of reflected light on a storefront in Clearwater, and in John Holmes' foreskin.

If Jesus is as marvelous as they think he is, I think he'd choose classier manifestation venues.

But I could be wrong.
