Pope Ratso dismisses ANOTHER Boston area Priest for (you guessed it)
BOSTON -- The Vatican has barred a former Boston archdiocese priest accused of sexual abuse from all benefits and activities associated with the priesthood with the exception of offering last rites to the dying.

George J. Rosenkranz, 70, has been restricted from public ministry since 1989 because of multiple allegations of sexual abuse of minors, according to a statement released Friday by the archdiocese. The Vatican's decision to dismiss Rosenkranz from "the clerical state" means he will be barred from receiving any financial support from the archdiocese and cannot function as a priest except to offer deathbed absolution.

Between 1962 and 1989, Rosenkranz was a priest at churches and schools in Canton, Marblehead, Chelsea, West Newbury, Saugus, Beverly, North Reading and Salem, according Kelly Lynch, a spokeswoman from a public relation firm engaged by the archdiocese.

During that time, Rosenkranz was arrested on lewd behavior charges at least twice -- in a mall restroom in 1981 and in a highway parking lot in highway parking lot in 1989.

1. It's almost as if there is something unnatural about claiming celibacy
Weird.

Who would have thought that a bunch of men who claim to be celibate and who never marry would have problems with sexual deviance?

:sarcasm:

6. You could be reversing cause and effect
It's just as likely that many men who are made to feel guilty about either normal homosexual urges, or abnormal pedophilliac urges, seek-out the celibate priesthood as a way to suppress and control them.

In any case, according to The Vatican's own figures, they're willing to admit that about 7% of priests have "credible" charges of sexual abuse against them.

Pepe Rodriguez, a Spanish journalist, wrote La vida sexual del clero (The Sexual Life of the Clergy) in 1995. His conclusions included: that of the Spanish priests studied 95 percent masturbate and 60 percent have sexual relationships. Although his record shows that 20 percent of the clergy get involved in homosexual practices, only 12 percent are exclusively homosexual. His figures of sexual abuse of minors are close to the numbers now demonstrated in the United States at 7 percent. He did, however, make a refinement that no other study has. Namely that 26 percent of practicing priests “have attachments to minors” (ont des attouchements avec des mineurs). Given the evidence that 60 percent of Catholic priests in America have a deficient psychosexual development and high rates of recorded abuse of minors in some localities (11.4 percent in Los Angeles in 1983), the question of attachment to minors deserves greater attention.

3. Fact check
Celibacy does not make people more prone to becoming a sexual predator.

The Perpetrator

<snip>

There is no specific profile for a child molester. A child molester matches the US population in education, ethnicity, percentage married or formerly married, and religious observance (Abel & Harlow, 2001).

In one study, researchers found that 68% of molesters sexually abuse children in thier own families (Abel & Harlow, 2001).

<snip>

Studies have revealed that 60-80% of adult sex offenders begin offending as adolescents. Adolescents perpetrate 50% of sex offenses against boys, and 15-20% of offenses against girls. (Rasmussen, Buton, Chrisopherson, 1992)

70% of the men who molest boys rated themselves as heterosexual in their adult sexual preferences. These men are married, divorced, widowed, or living with an adult partner. 9% of those molesters who molest boys are equally heterosexual and homosexual and only 8% reported themselves as being exclusively homosexual (Abel & Harlow, 2001).

5. I'm just tired of the notion that
child molesters are all gay men/celibate priests (and I don't even want to hear a crack about them being one and the same).
