Jesus was way cool

Jesus was way cool. Everybody liked Jesus. Everybody wanted to hang out with him.
Anything he wanted to do he did.
He turned water into wine, and if he had wanted to,
He could have turned wheat into marijuana, sugar into cocaine, or vitamin pills into amphetamines.
He walked on the water and swam on the land.
He would tell these stories and people would listen. He was really cool.
If you were blind, or lame, you just went to Jesus
And he would put his hands on you and you would be healed. That’s so cool.
He could have played guitar better than Hendrix.
He could have told the future.
He could have baked the most delicious cake in the world.
He could have scored more goals than Wayne Gretsky.
He could have danced better than Barishnakoff.
Jesus could have been funnier than any comedian you can think of.
Jesus told people to eat his body and drink his blood.
That’s so cool. Jesus was so cool.
But then some people got jealous of how cool he was, so they killed him.
But then he rose from the dead!
He rose from the dead, danced around and went up to heaven.
I mean, that’s so cool. Jesus was so cool.
No wonder there are so many Xians.

It appears to be light-hearted and harmless. It seems to be an example of being absurd to illustrate absurdity. I thought it was amusing.

If you ever get the chance to listen to King Missle, they're great. The "singer" sounds like David Sardaris, with a very dead-pan, even delivery. He speaks the lyrics to the songs over a mellow backing. It's theater of the absurd.

... but I didn't know what their name was.

It's a song, Desertrose, and quite a famous one, too. But just out of curiosity, why would you think it's insulting to Xians? Wasn't Jesus way cool?

OK...NOW I get it.... makes more sense in that context....

People post song lyrics in the lounge all the time. It lightens the mood and gives people somthing fun to talk about. I figured we could use a little bit of that here.

The first time I heard the song, I didn't know what to make of it. I had some non-Xian friends who thought it was insulting, and some very Xian friends who assumed King Missle were an Xian group (they're not, as far as I know).

I think he was an amazing human being. As were so many others.
