... the "Pray for our Priests" ribbon was NOT meant in the same spirit in which I would have created it.

Do they make one that says, "Pray for our Altarboys?"

1. Most likely on the vehicle
of a hard line law and order type. A pro-lifer who can support the death penalty. Priestly assaults on children, just more conservative values on parade.

2. I remember a few years ago, my mother was talking about a friend of hers

who is Irish Catholic. They had been discussing the abuse scandal, and my mother was convinced that her friend absolutely would have denied it if one of her three sons had claimed to have been abused by a priest. That's the mentality that many Catholics have in this country. The presumption is on the side of the priest, because the kids are wicked and sinful. That was exactly what made my parents leave the Catholic Church the way Springsteen talked about getting the hell out of New Jersey. Unfortunately, they didn't leave New Jersey until 1996.

ETA: Did you initially read the sticker as "Prey for our Priests"?

3. I thought in terms of, "Pray for our priests- their souls need all the prayers they can get."

But a picture of a crying altar boy, with the logo, "Prey for our priests" would do nicely.
