Poll question: Meta Poll on Boojatta polls: Do you understand Boojatta's polls?
There is a current thread in which Boojatta expressed some disappointment that his polls were not taken seriously. This is not intended as a flame or call out, but to actually provide useful information to a fellow DUer. The question is simple -- whether you understand Boojatta's polls.

I did not try to make many shadings of opinion, so you may have to make a rough judgment if, for example, you kinda sorta understood one or another but not most.

So which choice best represents your overall understanding of these polls.

Please feel free to elaborate on your choice.

2. I understood the language in the poll, but not the point of the poll
a.k.a. why ask the question? and why should I take the time to parse the question into an answer. :)

3. Perhaps Boojatta polls are not designed for you to understand.
Perhaps you have been excluded from Boojatta's target audience.

21. Boojatta has a target audience?
Do they live on the same planet that I do, or on an alternative planet?

Have I seen them featured in the Weekly World News?

24. I used to include a special poll option for you.
Are you suggesting that you want me to bring it back? I might, but sometimes I need all ten answer options for the unknown DU member. ("The unknown DU member" is like "the unknown soldier" or "the unknown truth" or "the unknown victim whose ear was discovered in the boxing ring.")

16. Finally...
I understand why some people who own shares in the company that makes Tylenol have provided funding for some of my research. I thought it was just a coincidence.

5. I often understand his polls.
But only because I have read the original thread where he derived his poll.
But I also see that his obscure polls do not provide the foundation for the discussion to be a good way to talk the subject he is trying to deal with.

I'm never privy to the original discussion, so they go right over my head. A link to the original discussion would be nice.

6. I think that they are self explanatory.
True or false: Jesus is to Christianity as the Koran is to Islam?

Does a tactical pretext belong in the category "opinion"?

Satan is ...

Who is more likely to be a Christian?

These are the last four polls I have seen by Boojatta. I don't see what is so hard about them.

8. If I understand them, then what good are they to me?
A bicycle provides an opportunity to travel and exercise simultaneously. If the polls aren't an opportunity to stretch one's powers of understanding, then why bother?

15. Fortunately, you aren't serious.
It's fortunate because I would prefer meaningless snark to "acceptance" (of a question!?) on faith.

18. I usually understand them. His MO appears to be, "take a random comment from a thread
he saw, extrapolate it to the most general level possible, and post a poll on it."

19. The results of this poll will be misleading if some participants
Edited on Tue Jul-29-08 08:13 PM by Boojatta
vote for the "don't understand" option as a proxy for something else such as:

  • "I saw a poll question that offended me"; or

  • "Somebody voted for a poll option that I strongly disagree with and I blame the poll maker for making it available"; or

  • "I wish that I could anti-recommend some Boojatta poll threads"; or

  • "A poll that Boojatta posted annoys me, but I don't want to ignore the thread, so I will get revenge by calling some Boojatta posts incoherent even though I actually think that they are coherent"; or

  • "The polls presume something that I disagree with, but I won't say what is presumed or why I disagree with it", etc.

There's almost always a need for a "none of the above" option.

23. I rarely get the point of the poll.
They're usually some variant of this:

1. Do you walk to work?
2. Or carry your lunch?

29. Other: Boojatta polls make me feel funny in my pants.
It's never been about understanding. It's about passion....about the interplay between elegant cranial massaging and hardcore mind fucking. It's about the search for a meaningful lack of meaning in something you find meaning-lessly meaningful. It's about understanding that at the very core of the universe of communication, there is a black hole of non-sense that comes to being from the crushing gravity of inanity. Boojatta takes you past the event horizon into a spiralling, inescapable doom, where one word means everything, and a sentence means nothing.

Embrace it. Embrace it or let it consume you.

31. In defense of Boojatta
He claims to want to initiate discussion and I have seen him succeed even when his OP's made no sense at all. I would not know his rate of success but sometimes there are interesting sub-threads that appear as consequence of his confusing polls/posts and that is better than having a slow forum with nothing to talk about. So all power to him when he's able to achieve spin off sub-threads with other people having meaningful discussions. Even if that rarely happens.

I know many of his poll attempts become meaningless threads with most people responding in kind. But if he is sometimes able to have people debating in sub-threads then it is all good.

But I can't tell which.
One of these may apply but I don't know which: :hi:   :toast: :dilemma:

Edited on Wed Jul-30-08 08:23 PM by Boojatta
Edited to add: initially I listed Vitamin C first, but, depending on your diet, you might have no need to pay any attention to Vitamin C. It does have an important merit though. Apparently, nobody has ever had a fatal overdose of Vitamin C.

35. Yeah but do you take cyanocobalamin or methylcobalamin for B12?
Interesting about vitamin C. I never heard that but it sounds reasonable. I'd think there is a fatal dose but you'd have to take it intravenously to get it because if you take more orally than your body can use, it gives you diarrhea and just passes through.
