Iran Launches Satellite For Imam Hazrat Mahdi's Birthday
Iran Sends First Satellite into Orbit

Fars News (English)
August 17, 2008

TEHRAN (FNA) - Iran successfully orbited its first home-made satellite Sunday morning. The satellite named Omid (Hope) has been designed and built by Iranian specialists and was orbited by an Iranian carrier rocket. In February Tehran successfully launched the Explorer-1 research rocket, which is capable of carrying a satellite into orbit, and unveiled the country's first domestically built satellite, Omid.

The achievement has drawn much attention from around the world, specially from among Muslim nations, as Iran is under heavy sanctions by the West and the UN Security Council making it develop the technology and build every part and equipment needed in the field of aerospace. The satellite was sent into orbit today on the occasion of the birthday anniversary of Shiites' 12th Imam (May God Hasten His Reappearance).

Joint Chief of Staff on Sunday congratulated Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei and brave Iranian nation on successful launching of the rocket carrying the country's first satellite.

In a message issued on Sunday, the Joint Chief of Staff said the rocket carrying the country's first satellite, was successfully fired on the birth Anniversary of the last Imam of Shiites, Hazrat Mahdi (May God Hasten His Reappearance), thus illustrating the auspicious name of the Imam in the space. The message said the launching marks the second instance of successful tentative firing of such rockets.

Iran sparks US concern with satellite rocket launch

AFP - Yahoo!7 News (AU) - August 18, 2008, 6:27 am

TEHRAN (AFP) - Iran said it had sent a rocket carrying a dummy satellite into space on Sunday, triggering fresh concern in Washington that the technology could be diverted to ballistic missiles. The launch is likely to further exacerbate tensions with the West over its nuclear drive, which Iran's arch-foe Washington and its allies claim is a cover for atomic weapons ambitions.

"The Safir (Ambassador) rocket was successfully launched. All its systems...are Iranian-made," Reza Taghipour, head of Iran's space agency, told state television, adding that a "test satellite was put into orbit. We have paved the way for placing a satellite in space in future," state television said, showing images of the pre-dawn rocket launch which was attended by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Western governments, already concerned over Iran's nuclear activities, have warned that the technology used in the Islamic republic's space programme could be diverted to military use, claims denied by Tehran. "The Iranian development and testing of rockets is troubling and raises further questions about their intentions," White House spokesman Gordon Johndroe said. "This action and dual use possibilities for their ballistic missile program are inconsistent with their UN Security Council obligations."

A top Iranian official told AFP that state media reports that the country's first domestically-built satellite, called Omid or Hope, had been launched were not correct. A defence ministry statement carried by the official news agency IRNA had said the rocket, "built by Iranian experts" was launched with Omid. But the official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the media was mistaken. Iran's Arabic-language state television broadcast footage of the rocket heading into space and graphics showing a satellite separating from a rocket.

- Well, this is a fine kettle of fish. The religious wars have finally reach space.

Peachy....

If it's true. There were photoshppoed images of the last big missle launch.

If true, all I can say to Iranians is, "DUCK!"

2. You suppose with all the mentions of Shiites the wingers can figure Al-Quada (Sunni) isn't part of
the Iranian equation?

5. The Spice must flow
al Mahdi has been in his cave for over 1,000 year, so he will need a large birthday cake for all those candles. His first job on leaving his cave will be kill %90 of all Arabs. It's the Khomeini form of Islam defined by what they call "the 12 Imams" and al Mahdi fills in the role of their messiah or anti-Christ according to how one looks at it. %90 of Arabs think it is funny as in a nuts - but it's the one sect Bush and Cheney are supporting in Iraq or at least supporting their death squads. It's not actually Shia, more of ancient Persian (Farsi) texts that Khomeini and his forefathers thought would be nice to adopt into their theology. It does not work with the Koran so he added a bit that the Koran is wrong and the "alMahdi" will have a nice Persian koran to replace it (aka Fatima's koran).

the rocket alone might not be enough to get McCain elected, Iran might have to test a nuke soon for him to get more votes. All McCain has to do is talk more about "radical Islam", "Muslim terrorists" and "Islamofacists" and he'll get lots more votes as long as no one asks were Iran gets it's weapons from. I think Sibel Edmonds (I love her!) has a lot to say about this as it relates to how things got this far and who was behind it.

As this is in the religious section, The name "Hussein" relates to the Shia Sunni divide - part of an 7 - 8th century Cain and Able story. The Iranian trained death squads use that name as what Frank Herbert's Dune called a "kill word" - my SF knowledge is a decade old so excuse me if I got it wrong.

>> (May God Hasten His Reappearance),
I wish they would stop giving Hagee and Robertson hints - they have been waiting a lot longer.

>>The religious wars have finally reach space.
It was there decades ago, Russia is not as atheist as they like to think, same as NASA and the Pentagon. Iraq has proved that war is profitable so Armageddon is just too much of a temptation for war mongers or all religions, colors and politics to give up.

Peace

6. The Mahdi must be upset with his acolyte.

Or perhaps the Pure One just has really, really low expectations and doesn't mind skirting the truth from time to time. (Perhaps the truth looks better in a skirt.)

7. Huh, all I got was a bloody Hallmark card
If Western governments are concerned about the development of Earth-to-orbit rockets by insufficiently docile countries, all the more reason to develop a space elevator.

9. Which countries are insufficiently docile?
Iran is a kitten. I suggest that you or a loved one get an official name change to "Salman Rushdie." Someone seeking the money that is still offered as a reward by an organization openly operating in Iran might make a little mistake. However, you can count on Iran to apologize for the misunderstanding. There's only one way to find out. Try it!
